Why can't Guardians be "Taken"?
I'm not sure if this was explained or a reason suggested in the game or on the forums?
Why can't guardians be "taken"?
Why did Oryx never seek to "take" his most powerful foe, transforming into his most powerful weapon?
The Vex, an impossible force that guardians (at this time) can never hope to end, feared Oryx due to being "taken".
It's said in all there calculations there was never a future where the Vex defeated or were not destroyed by Oryx.
Every other species in the game were powerless to Oryx's ability.....but not the guardian!
Any ideas?
Is it because guardians are dead?

I can buy into the idea that beyond a physical being, we are light.
Therefore we can not be taken or become darkeness.
We are guided and willed by light, and Oryx by the dark.
But this must abide by the rules both ways.....
Meaning Oryx, or the darkness that resides in him, can't be destroyed, and we are doomed to jump on plates and detonate bombs for all eternity!!! Haha

Because it'd be hard to justify not being Taken, and frankly make the Taken and Oryx interesting and raise stakes.

2 RepliesBecause we're basically the opposite. Taken are beings who have had their minds broken and are then filled with Darkness. Guardians are beings of light. We are literally animated by it in the same way darkness animates the Taken. Light can be corrupted, and that's how you get guardians like Yor, but Taking would require its removal, which would kill us, and the dead can't be Taken.

We are already dead. We are just puppets for the travelers light. Hence why taken servitors don't appear.

Like wizards are weak on their own, so he offers them the power to spawn countless armies to protect them. Oryx's dialogue in Regicide and the grimore cards for all the Taken enemies led me to this conclusion. "What you call Darkness is the end of your evolution!" "The Darkness is a gift! Let my will set you free!"

2 RepliesWe are beings infused with Light, that is why we can't be Taken. The Darkness and Light are equivalent forces, unable to overpower each other without assistance from other species. The Darkness cannot lay claim over the Light within us, for we are a power of equal ontological force

3 RepliesHe tried, in the kings fall raid when we were torn between dimensions he was attempting to take us, when you are take you are taken to another dimension, given your new form and returned to the normal world, we were torn between this "taken dimension" and the normal dimension. Also to the hive being taken is an honor, we killed his son and defiled his grave so we could challenge him, I don't think he would want to honor us for that until we were about to kill him in his thrown world and when he tried that we used the sword logic against him so that we could escape being taken. I think that bungie should have made it so that in kings fall if you took too long as the runner a you were killed and your team would have to kill a taken guardian with your gear to continue

Because we're guardians, we have a strong enough will and enough light to overpower him trying to "take" us. Though, during the mission, Regicide, Oryx tries to persuade us to join him as a last ditch kind of action. [spoiler]Also because Bungo would have to create an AI that was actually [i]intelligent[/i].[/spoiler]

It's probably a lot like training pets. You can train some animals to do tricks like dolphins or dogs whereas some animals are harder to teach. The other enemies are the dolphins and dogs of the world, and Guardians are more similar to rhinos.

And those vex who were taken by oryx were tempted by upgrades to their frames which improved their effectiveness. Also oryx tried to take us in the final mission. Guardians can't be tempted in the same fashion the others were.

Guardians are outside of causality which is why oryx can't take us. It's also why we and oryx can't be simulated by the vex.

4 RepliesSadly, the lore has no concrete answer for this. Some community members say that it's because we have Light, but the King's Fall Grimoire card tells is that Light can be Taken on some degree. Others say that it's because we are dead, but that's false too, as we are literally brought back to life when our Ghost revived us; all of our organs are functioning, and we are the dictionary definition of alive. My best guess is that we can't be taken because of our manner of wielding Light. The way we are brought from death and infused with a Light is very similar to what happens to the Taken with the key difference being the power that brings us back. You could say that we were "Taken" by the Light.

Simply because we wield light. Other races do not ! Oryx cannot take a bearer of light !

well they can be taken but only if a guardian is removed of its ghost and its light turning letting oryx transform it into taken and if he had done that then he could've done that to other guardians thus ending the city its self.

1 ReplyNo one is sure why. There isn't a concrete lore explanation. Bungie dumped it on the community to speculate and come up with theories to try and make the lore seem like it has "depth" and is "intricate."

5 RepliesFirstly Guardians are not dead. To the point it is because we are beings of Light. All our power and strength comes from our Light. Light and Darkness are antithetical. They can not exist simultaneously as one will destroy the other. In order for Oryx to Take a Guardian he would have to first extinguish their Light, the source of all their power as stated. Our Light is stated to be particularly strong, thus it would not be easy to extinguish it. There are many ways to interpret things but many believe that Oryx has in fact tried to Take us and failed. They site things like the "Grasp of the King" effect that drains your super (and will kill you if you let it persist long enough) and being pulled into the "other dimension" such as during the mission Regicide and the final stage in the Raid Kings Fall.

I'm sure it has something to do with that fact that we are filled with light and our ghost supply us with light.
