Does anybody have any insight as to myself pre downloading Destiny on my xbox one, or even the 48 hour ps4 pre download, and then proceeding to change my time zone to New Zealand time or whatever zone hits 9/9 first? I know that the servers will be online whenever ANYwhere in the world is 9/9 and the lucky players who have gotten hard copies of the game early will be able to play then. But will my digital copy be unlocked if I change the time zone, because on the xbox and psn stores it says we cannot play until 12:01 am pacific time. Or is hope dulling my mind into believing this might work because I'm so excited for the game?
EDIT: I switched my time zone to New Zealand time and also switched my system location to New Zealand and the playable date switched from 12:01 am pst to 12:01 am nzt (meaning like 16 or so hours in advance). The New Zealand base version is $114 though so I'm not getting it, still hoping that I can get the US version for $59 and then switch my settings to NZ after
Edit: If you're one of the people who reads a couple lines and then types some bs like "the servers are turning on at 12:01 am pst" then you're wrong and dumb for not even reading the full post and you should be euthanized. THE SERVERS ARE GOING TO BE ON WHENEVER THE FIRST -blam!-ING COUNTRY HITS 9/9 THEIR TIME, NOT BUNGIE TIME. this was stated in so many articles I shouldn't even have to link it. Also I bet the servers will be on even before then for review purposes. But thanks to a guy named cid77u in the comments he linked me this article
http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/console-guides/xbox-one-guides/13353-step-step-guide-purchasing-games-us-xbox-one-store-any-region.html
Shows that I was correct but it only seems to work for xbox and is a violation of the Microsoft terms. Also seems that I would need to download the NZ version, which I won't do because it's too expensive. I will still be trying to just switch my region when it is 8am on 9/8 est
For anyone who actually read the full post and didn't just jump to the comments to make the community dumb and dumberer thank you

2 RepliesFrom what I heard from people who did this with other games, including with the original Destiny, it only matters what region you purchased the game in. On top of that it most likely breaches terms and services, which is a ban-able offense for both Account and Console. Though simply changing your regions is fine but won't likely work... Though if it does for some automagical reason.... Holla.
-
1 ReplyI downloaded the us versions of all my games and just changed my region It also says ill have it at 12pm nzt so fingers crossed but my point was that all my other games still work that are digital. I would try it all you have to do is change back if it doesn't work.
-
1 ReplyI could be wrong, but even if you change your region settings your IP address would still read as being in your local area.
-
2 RepliesThe package is most likely has a lock in UTC time and checks a remote server to verify the time. This is my assumption based on the fact that the game unlocks at 12am PST (even if you live in EST). If this is the case, and I suspect it is, you can change your TimeZone to what ever you want. It won't matter to the lock.
-
3 RepliesIf you buy the North American version, you will be subjugated to the terms outlined in the description for it. Even if you switch to New Zealand after buying the US version, you'll still have to wait till 12am PST, as they lock that regions version until then. Different countries have different versions of the game, which is why they can unlock it at different times.

11 RepliesLOL I've bought my digital copy for xbox one and I'm from uk, it states that I will not be able to play until 12:00 9/9 bst, so then I went and changed my location and time zone to New Zealand which is +13hrs ahead, did restart and checked, now says I can play on 12:00 9/9 nzst. I believe this will work so il get it round mid day Monday :)

1 ReplyThis has worked for other games, it will probably work for Destiny. You do realize that the NZ price is in NZ dollars though right? It's about $94 USD. Why do video games cost so much in new Zealand?
-
-
1 ReplyAin't nobody got time for that!
-
Pretty nasty comments here. I bought an X1 for this game, and when I was setting it up I had this exact thought. I changed my location/time zone to NZ, and I was going to pay a NZ price for it too! Changed mine back, though. Anyway, try it out just so you can say you did AT LEAST try.
-
6 RepliesWOW you realise that price is in New Zealand Dollars because the console thinks your in New Zealand
-
5 Repliesi dont get it, why do people think they can cheat the system to get into the game early. Bungie has said SERVERS WILL NOT GO LIVE UNTIL 00:01 am pst so changing your time zone on your console wont change bumkiss when it comes to logging onto the servers.
-
12 Repliesoh man it feels good to be a new zealander right now.
-
2 RepliesJust because the server goes live, doesnt mean the Microsoft store will release it. They wont release the small patch that makes the game playable untill 3am, EST. Due to the fact of the above. People can simply change time zones. They have thought of this, they are not as stupid as you might think. Its been like this with every other downloadable game. Just because its a preload doesnt change anything.

32 RepliesEdited by Passizle: 9/4/2014 3:15:47 PMIt does not matter what you do. Yes. The servers will be live before launch. But they will not accept connections until 12:01am pacific. That means 3:01am eastern and whatever time zone translation to anywhere in the world. Yes. Different continents will have their own servers. But US based connections will most likely not work due to regional locks on CDs and US digital editions. In other words it will be difficult, if not impossible to have a US version and connect to a server on another continent... Let alone the laggy connection across the Atlantic. Lastly... Wishing death on anyone with an opinion is childish. Grow up. EDIT: I realize now there are other servers for EU and Aus. The time thing will only effect the US.

Edited by Rocko : 9/4/2014 1:21:23 PMi'd love to know too when exactly i'll be able to start playing Destiny. best possible outcome: apparently the web tells me that in "Fakaofo, Tokelau" it'll be 20140909 and 0000 hours first - that would be 20140908 and 1300 hours here in Germany (and like that even much earlier monday for all you 'Murricans) - it would be AWESOME if we all would be able to play from then on. worst outcome of Bungies "when it'll be 9/9 somewhere(?), anywhere(?) in the world" statement: yeah, it would require our individual timezones to reach 20140909... . well, would still be better than the not-so-long-ago old days - where we Europeans had to wait everytimes 1-2 days longer for our PS-Stores to update something before we were able to play some fresh released digital content... .
-
You're welcome
-
I don't think it's gonna work for digital version, for Playstation at least (no idea about xBox). Sure, Bungie's servers may be up early, but there's a standard PSN release time, which is on Tuesday. So until PSN service won't release the game you won't be able to play it no matter what. And you can't cheat PSN service with time switch, it has its own region based internal time.

Idiot.

You can't travel forward or backwards, this isn't a -blam!-ing movie You know, it's all you dumb -blam!-s that cry and whine over waiting that are going to ruin this game. You'll all be crying and whining about something, here's a tip you -blam!-tard! It'll be on when it's on and nothing you post is going to change that. Stupid -blam!-ing people in these forums, I'll soon learn that there is nothing good when it comes to any community. Stupid -blam!-ing humans, you're the worst thing on this planet and the last to deserve a damn thing. Stupid stupid humans always crying that it's not right or fair, the government won't let us do this or that. That's because you're all children expecting your parents to be perfect. I'm out of this retarded shit. Hope you're the -blam!-ing idiot I pop in the head and hear crying later...

17 RepliesWon't work.
-
4 RepliesEven if you change it to NZ, since you're in the US, the first servers you will encounter will be the local US ones, then the signal will jump all around to NZ, so it still has to pass through the US servers and they will be notified to what you are doing and will stop you, possibly ban you.
-
1 ReplyRidiculous. You honestly can't wait a few hours? It's just a damn game.

If I roll back the clock fast enough, I will go back in time. Screw you HG Wells, I am the Time Machine!

To long. I did happen to read this time though...
