So while doing this weeks Flashpoint on Io, I played this particular event four times. Every time, there were guardians who apparently did not know how to trigger the heroic version and who where unknowingly working against their fellow guardians trying to get better loot and a faster Flashpoint completion. This made me very angry, but instead of complaining, I decided to post a little reminder for those that are oblivious to what other guardians are doing.
When the event begins, a huge Taken blight will spawn in. To trigger the heroic version you will need to damage it, even though it is immune to damage. To do damage you need to step inside one of those taken shield bubbles and quickly step out again. DO NOT DESTROY THE BUBBLES!
This is the common mistake. You don’t even need to kill the taken enemies, unless they are too aggressive. Once you step outside the bubble again , you will have a buff called. “Blight Receding”. This buff will last for about five seconds and allows you to damage the central blight. After the buff ends, just do the same thing again. After a certain amount of damage, the blight will retreat to another location on the map. Once you found it, do the same thing. This will repeat until you dealt enough damage to the blight and a taken boss will spawn in. Kill it and you have completed the heroic event. Yay!
That’s not that hard, just a little hard to find out if you never question why the event turned heroic or if you never watch what other guardians are doing.
Hope I helped those that needed it.
(late)EDIT:
1. Apparently, the blight is easier to kill if you only shoot it in the last “round“. Thanks for those that informed me because I did not know that.
2.I‘ll try using Wardcliff and see if its better, thanks again:)
3. I know that this and other heroic events may seem poorly designed because there are no clues on how to do them, but that’s the point. They are supposed to be secret and “more rewarding” ways to complete events. And certain people have figured them out in like the first weeks or so of D2. Now all you have to do is google or watch what others are doing. If that’s to hard for you, than heroics are not meant for you. But they are supposed to be secret.
4. For those that say that people that don’t know how to do it don’t read the forums: At this moment I have read like more than five replies saying that I helped them and even that is enough for me and justifies this post, at least for me.

Post justified again...ive even tried watching others. But its not that obvious if your not looking for it, and i never leace the small bubbles because i ohk them with way of the missle or something...i always though you had to smash them all without killing mobs and then shoot it.
-
It can be solo'd it easy in the first round using the wallcliff coil. I did it once with a couple of randoms doing the same... start to finish took about 20 seconds.
-
Run a titan and pop a wall in front of them shooting or titan bubble over em. Than shoot them a few times with the right choice emotes and most stop long enough due to confusion.

2 RepliesWhy waste all that time explaining the blight heroic mechanic lol, the players who still don’t know how to activate it are most likely NOT on these forums. They play for an hour a day oblivious to game mechanics and then play the cancerous fortnite and finish 99th out of 100 five times in a row and then go watch Logan Paul on YouTube lol. Basically the modern American teenager, and I say that with no disrespect to Americans in general but you guys have an epidemic over there.
-
Ah crap! I forgot about that! I used to do as you say, but somewhere along the line my brain has had an infarction - a not uncommon event - and I went back to shooting the little fellers. Sorry.

Edited by NerdslayerNo1: 7/20/2018 11:50:28 PM1. If everyone unloads on the blight at first the event is MASSIVELY quicker than going through all three phases of killing blights and sparrows g to the next stage. You can finish the event in easily less than a minute. Don’t shoot the small blights. Also if you you just barely step in and out you can fire almost continuously, especially with a Warlock rift.

1 ReplyEdited by Eqitx: 7/20/2018 12:45:34 PMYou can repost this guide every week for years, those dumb kids ( the last players still online) will not trigger heroic regardless 😂😂 Whats fun we had this same guide during the first week after launch 😂

2 RepliesWhy aren't there simple in-game hints to turning PEs Heroic? Can't Nolanbot drop a hint every now and then?
-
But I like to just run in and slam and shotgun everything, leeeeroy Jenkins style. That’s how I like to play
-
People know, they just stupid.
-
Thank you for the reminder. I've recently returned after 9 months and couldn't remember how to make that one trigger. Fortunately the guardians around me did, despite me working at cross-purposes to them.
-
Yeah I usually don't get bothered by it and can brush it off, but with Faction Rallies this week I did get a bit irked by it.
-
Didn't realize how many did it wrong, then after reading the post the other night and running Flashpoint I noticed it, I'm over here stepping in and out doing damage and everyone else was shooting the blights.
-
For many this will be a helpful post. But personally, this and the cabal vents were the most obvious. First time for this event, I immediately tried shooting the main blight, but saw immune. Then I noticed the small ones so I went to shoot them. But then I saw the blight receding timer, and it was obvious. I just restart the timer when reloading. It's just like using weapons and blessings of light in D1.

Excuses excuses excuses. All Iam hearing is “i know How to do every single heroic” except this one. 1 year in and it does not occur to any that you could just google that shit. Heck if any had bothered to do 5 mins worth of research. They would know. 1 year in FF sake!

1 ReplyPlayed since day 1. Never knew this. Upvoted! Thanks

4 RepliesAre you aware than during Flashpoint you can summon secret bosses, which help completing Flashpoint faster ? And are you aware than on Io, you can summon Ereshkel, Insight of Savathûn during the Taken Blight event occurring at Giant's scar BUT you need to destroy 3 bubbles to do so. So, by triggering the Heroic too soon, you might be the one working against your fellow Guardians. Ereshkel is very hard to summon (maybe the hardest boss to summon) because of Guardians like you who want to rush the Heroic. More info on secret Flashpoint bosses here : https://lowlidev.com.au/destiny/flashpoints

1 ReplyThis is good to know. I rarely head to IO, and even more rarely for public events. Not sure why, maybe because Asher sounds like a bad mix between Skeletor & Cobra Commander.
-
Man, I hear you. I entered here to complain as well. Specially when there is a flashpoint, this event can be very frustating. IO needs to have more variation of public events. I would say that applies to all enemy factions. Just having more public event variations would be beneficial to break the routine when farming those hateful tokens for faction rally, or doing flashpoints. I also get the feeling the taken event is a bit tricky for few players to turn heroic, specially when renown is in place. Most of the others are easily doable by one person alone.
-
1 ReplyInstead of complaining?...
that's all this post is
-
1 ReplyI'm not going to lie, I'm one of those people. I haven't played this since vanilla, and this was the first time Flashpoint had been on io since I got back.
-
A valid post, wondering why people have such a hard time figuring this one out. I really think bungie needs an emote for “how about making it heroic..”. I would stand in front of them and emote all day. Maybe a more to the point emote called “stop shooting the smaller blights jackass”
-
Nice post. I’m sure a few people were not aware of this. 👍
-
1 ReplyWow, I actually didnt know that at all. Thats the only event that still confused me. Thanks for the info!
-
1 ReplyHonestly, this was the only public event I didn't have a definitive understanding on how to make it heroic. Thanks
-
1 ReplySweet! Thanks man. I always thought I could trigger the heroic by stepping into the small blight, shoot it once, then step out and shoot the big blight. Turns out, I don't even have to shoot the small blight... :S
