Raid Etiquette

I try to run the raid daily and most of the people I run into out there are cool but OMFG there are those few morons who really need to learn some manners. Here are some things right off the top of my head that I've wanted to say to a few of them: 1. If you are a level 30, it DOES NOT mean you are better than anyone else in the group, it means you got lucky with drops... that's it. So stop acting like a complete douchebag and quit trying to lord that 30 over everyone else in the game. 2. If you get invited to a group who has a solid plan, don't try to boss them around with statements like "well, we do it like this" or "you should do this or that". If you are the add to an established group then be a team player and go along with their plan or start your own f'king group! Of course it's different if they ASK for advice or don't actually have a plan, but even then, be nice about it... don't start ordering people around.. 3. OMFG, stop with the insane chit chat. One of the biggest reasons I try to avoid little kids and teenagers.... they simply won't shut the hell up. [EDIT] I am not talking about casual conversation, which is fine. I'm talking about non-stop-how-are-they-even-breathing chatter boxes. 4. Don't be drunk. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I play better when I'm drunk"... Ummm newsflash, no you don't, you just think you do. If you really do, then I'd hate to see how much sh*ttier you play sober because you are not playing good in this game. Passing out at Atheon... JFC... really? Seek help! 5. Don't join a game if you don't have a minimum of 2 hours. Yes, it can be done faster, a lot faster, but sometimes there is someone in the group struggling because it's their first time so it might take longer. Don't join a game if you have to leave in 20 minutes. 6. Please don't be that a-hole who gets mad and yells when someone makes a mistake and it causes a wipe. They didn't do it on purpose, your yelling doesn't do anything but bring the group down and newsflash YOU AREN'T perfect either! These are the first things that come to mind... anyone got things they want to add?

  • Wow, you sound -blam!-ing obnoxious. Shit like this makes me happy to have an established raid group so I don't have to put up with shitstains like you who take offense at the very concept of having fun while playing a game.

  • It goes both ways. As a level 30, I am NOT an NPC here to help you on your quest to clear the Vault of Glass on Hard Mode. This means, if I am in the tower and do not know you, do not send me random friend requests with no messages. You will be denied. Second, I am fine with being asked if I want to run something. If I say no, that means no. It means I don't have the time, I've already done it, or whatever. I do not owe any explanation to any random stranger why I do not want to run the VOG with them. So stop getting upset and messaging me that I'm greedy, or unhelpful because I don't want to run something for the umpteenth time with no rewards for a stranger I've never met. Also, no I do not sit in the tower waiting for messages. I only go there for bounties, decode engrams, and trade gear. I avoid that place as much as possible. I've done the hard raid with only myself as a 30 and all the rest 29 a few times. That being said, it is much easier with more 30's. I think this post is full of entitlement. 1. Don't know who you've ran into, but most 30's I know are quite cool about it and continue to run VoG for very little reward. 2. Solid plan... sorry if you keep doing the same thing over and over, it's most definitely NOT a solid plan. If I'm at 30 and don't need any rewards, sorry but I'm not sticking around for wipe after wipe just to be a nice guy because you want to try a different plan vs. something I know works. I'll try it your way a few times if you have a different strategy, but if we're not getting close I will speak up and if not I will leave. 5. Sorry, real life happens. If I've got to go, I've got to, especially if you're taking way too long or want to bring in that level 27 into the hard mode because he's your friend. I don't have much to say about the other ones. The bottom line, if you don't like the things you are complaining about. Do something about it. Stop finding randoms and people you hate to do the raid with. Go find another 5 or 6 people you like to raid with, do well with, and have similar schedules.. Add them to your friends list, maybe start a clan and then setup a scheduled weekly raid. I started off doing randoms, and just found people I enjoyed raiding with and who did well in the raid. I suggest you do the same to avoid all that frustration.

    • If you're going to run the Vault, please commit. I'm just getting into trying to do the raid regularly, and the last two times we (forum "matchmade" groups) breezed through, only to have everyone drop out at Atheon or his precursor after hitting a few snags and having to wipe a handful of times. The Vault is such a fun experience, but having everyone drop at the end is so disappointing. That being said, if anyone wants to add me to their list of reliable Guardians, I'd be happy to get into the mix with a group that's committed to completing it. Lvl29 Warlock Lvl28 Titan PSN: ThoughtCrimb Just be sure to mention the forum when you invite/friend request me, to seperate yourself from the randoms I get in-game.

    • if you find a blog of people looking to do the raid at a high lvl and it says experienced raiders only dont ask to join the raid if your gonna whine about the group being sloppy on the first try. Its a random made group the first run will always be messy as people get settled.

    • I inevitably had to mute this kid that wouldn't shut the hell up. I swear what is wrong with kids these days? They just talk for the sake of talking and they keep reminding everyone that their balls haven't dropped yet with their baby voices. They're just begging to be picked on. Luckily everyone in my group was civil and ignored the twerp. Thank god for mute.

I don't so much as get mad and yell at people when we wipe for a mistake made, we can just try again and learn from that point on. Being pressured to do better does not make you better, it puts you more likely to get stressed out, and make more mistakes from thereon. However, by a 5th or so wipe, I look at the bottom left, and try to see if there is a "Death Trend" with our members. When 1-3 members are dying first or second constantly, then my friends usually have an intermission and discuss what's going on calmly and investigate the gear they possess. If its a random group, I try to advocate fire team leader so we can stop and discuss before we descend into rage. Usually getting something to eat and then doing the raid does the trick, with a bit more planning. Switching people's roles in of orbit, as apposed to mid raid, creates a less stressful scenario, and leads to better execution of a plan.

      • this is why you avoid randoms. Get a clan and play with people that you know. Most people are jerks because they are online and feel as thou they can act however they want.

            • I finally got around to try the raid last week-end... people were surprised because I'm level 29, but I told them I don't have a lot of uninterrupted, guaranteed time, so I'm not going to start a raid at midnight when I have to work in the morning (that 20mn rule). I spent a lot of time apologizing, as I know the principles, but reading thru raid advice is totally different from seeing it live (and hey, I did really want to discover the raid, so I didn't watch full videos of it before hand). Long story short, we took the two hours. We didn't quite finish (there were issues with other players) and we got stuck at atheon. I'm really really happy I got to try it. I hope to manage to get enough uninterrupted time to try again and finish it next time. I'm really grateful for your post, because I'm exactly the target group. Raiding the first time, when you're playing with people who have all done the raid each week since destiny launch, is very daunting. And every bit of self-confidence will help you not suck.

            • My own 2 cents (your list is awesome BTW): Don't raid without maxed weapons or nearly maxed weapons AND be below the level of the raid. If you're below level, max your guns. All if them. Otherwise, you're asking for frustration. I took the time and coins to buy the XP boosters from Xur to make this less difficult, but please consider how little damage do you with "new" weapons. You hurt the team when you can keep up with the average number of kills per player. DPS matters. Your DPS will be poop below level, even more so with non-maxed weapons. Scenario I recently experienced: I was 29. I ran 3 fully maxed weapons at legendary or exotic level. This was a randomly constructed team from these forums. Several team members at 29 were running new guns. Wouldn't switch. They wanted to keep trying. He got a new gun and wanted to experiment in hard mode?! Needless to say we couldn't get past the confluxes. We kept getting over run. I was the top scorer and held down the right conflux by myself several times (again, as a 29, and we had 30s on the team). I have no great skill. I stood there and shot stuff that came my way. The trick? Leveled weapons (maxed)! You simply do more damage and it closes the 15% damage reduction from being 29 against level 30 enemies. It's completely manageable. Fellow guardians: Please level your guns prior to joining a raid team. I don't mind newbies. Just max your favorite weapons before going LFG. That's my only addition to this otherwise very well done list.

            • I would just like to point out the flaw in 2. It doesn't matter if they ask for advice or not, if you think that you have an idea that would work better, by all means suggest it. But do it the right way, and don't make it seem like their plan was wrong.

I have not had any of this to be fair. There are just as many "Raid experts" who are complete dicks who are at lv29 as there are at Lv30. A handy hint for all is never to tell everyone how -blam!-ing awesome you are at everything, as chances are the Hobgoblins can hear you and will make you a priority candidate for them to burn a new arsehole into your forehead 10 seconds later.
