Why are people leaving Destiny for COD:AW?

Aren't both the game play for both of these games the same? I mean you can double jump in both, jet pack in both, and shoot things in both!

    • I watched some PvP COD:AW on Twitch and it looks like a joke. I mean really cartoony and lame. Almost everything I saw was rush rush rush, shoot and kill kill kill... literally a half a second and dead. No fun... no real gun battles. No longer care to buy.

Because it gets old playing the same raid over and over in hopes of getting raid armor just to get that 1 light level to max out. Look at the towers now, they are a lot less populated than even a week ago. I wanted this game to survive but with COD AW, Halo MCC and GTA 5 releasing next gen all before the holiday season, a large chunk of Destiny players will have moved on. Further, most people will have beaten the DLC 1 story missions and strike in the first week, and the raid in the first month. With a year gap between DLC 1 and 2, Destiny will likely become a 'shattered memory fragment.'

          • I'm not leaving Destiny for COD. I'm buying Call of Duty so I can play it while I wait for new content in Destiny. Once the new content comes, I'll happily jump back in.

Activision made the call on the Destiny IP to model it like other Triple A FPS titles rather than Triple A RPG titles. Thus the absence of story and high repetition of the same content. This being the norm in the Triple A FPS genre, it's accompanied by the other norms of the genre, to include dropping it entirely for whatever is newest. The FPS market is driven by the "flavor of the month" concept, in which the bulk of the demographic just migrates to whatever FPS is shiny and new, no matter how garbage it is, extremely regularly. The Destiny IP was banking on the Bungie fanbase to support the game, but with the "riding in coach" treatment of the XBox experience, the gutting of the games creative vision, loss of the lead writer, and firing of the composer who invented their sound, Activision basically gave the finger to Bungie's long standing fanbase to make a gamble on a new, broader fan base. Unfortunately for them, all that broader fanbase is are tourists; they come to visit, then they move on to whatever new and interesting thing comes along. That's what happens when you build a Triple A FPS with 20 hours of content that you recycle over and over and over again: Players move on to the next 20 hours of FPS gameplay over and over and over again. The FPS market represents the lowest content to cost ratio in the gaming industry, and also has the highest mainstream recognition. You know why? Triple A Business' pour the budget into marketing these games rather than developing them, push them out the door riding on the consumer hopes that "this one totally won't be as shitty as the last one", deliberately underachieve that consumer expectation, and before the consumers have enough time to realize they're being screwed there's a shiny new one being marketed preying on that same consumer hope that "this one totally won't be as shitty as the last one". Rinse. Repeat. Profit. The mainstream console FPS market preys on consumer hope. That's why people moved on. They are just hoping the next one isn't as shitty, just like they hoped Destiny wasn't as shitty as what they came from playing before. It's the natural circle of life and death of Triple A FPS's.

              • Because I enjoy to do more with my life than the same old grind destiny gives me. Sure I do the and the weekly but other than that I have no need to play destiny. It was fun for awhile and may be in a while but we're allowed to like other games. Far cry 4, gta V, MCC, CoD AW some solid games. You don't buy a console for one game ;)

A couple reasons will answer your question. There are many more reasons of course, but these two should sum it up nicely. * Destiny offers the same experience as CoD:AW * CoD:AW is built exclusively for the PvP experience provided Destiny is a game that many people thought would be something else, offer something else. Consequently, it drew a flock of players seeking a particular type of game... A game Destiny is not. Versus CoD:AW which nearly everyone will play for the multiplayer PvP. CoD:AW will offer the experience to players that they anticipate. Players will get what their money was intended for. Consequently, CoD:AW will have a more devoted PvP playerbase than Destiny. ---------- Destiny went wrong when it lied to us players. What we have are players who are looking for a story-driven experience realizing Destiny has no story and who are also being forced to play certain game modes which leads to the inevitable understanding that most story driven players are no good at PvP. It doesn't take much to understand that this inherent issue is why Destiny PvP sucks. Moreover, even CoD:AW has a #BetterStoryThanDestiny. Destiny's Destiny is death lest it follow the path of FFXIV. ...And Bungie seems to stubborn to heed our warnings. It doesn't matter though because Activision still gets our money.

                  • Because cod has competitive pvp. Ranking systems, more modes, better hit detection, less server issues and better balance. If pve is your game destiny is better, if pvp is your game cod is. On the other hand if you're really into this kind of pve you could play warframe for free and get access to about 20 times the content.

                      • <rant> For me there are several reasons. The main one is I can't seem to get or join a team to run VOG. Therefore, I am stuck running the daily story, daily bounties, and a few crucible matches just to get a few ascendant materials. This becomes old after a time. Yes I am familiar with grinding, but without being able to run the raids it is more work than fun. Also, since I can't get raid armour I will never see level 30 and depending on how the new armour works in the expansion I will never be able to reach 32. So, if there is no way to progress why continue playing. I will occasionally return to Destiny, and maybe when the expansion comes out I will be able to get armour to reach 30. For the most part I feel the Bungie is locking us casual single players out of the best stuff. </rant>

                          • Mainly because people dont have 1 hit kill super powers. Everyone isnt running around with shotguns, and people dont have amazing exotic weapons that i dont because they play more than me.

                            • Well for one they aren't the same. COD tends to lean towards instant kills when it come to gunplay and Destiny let's you live a little longer to try and emphasize headshots and accuracy. Also Destiny, although a new ip, is starting to get a bit stale for people and people want to play the new COD. (not me. I'm lvl 30 and still love the game. I'm done with COD for good.) Overall it'll be tough taking down a giant as big as COD but I think Destiny hit them pretty hard. Especially since I'm not getting COD this year :P The Dark Below will have plenty of marketing and the new Crota's End raid will be too tempting for players who've done Vault of Glass and know it'll be an experience no other game offers. That will bring a good chunk back.
