Are women "smarter" than men because schools are geared towards them?
Ok Flood, I did some digging and here's what I found.
In the 1920's and before when schools weren't geared towards women, men were smarter than women. Only in the past few decades women have become "smarter" than men.
My hypothesis is that if women were declared less smart than men in any way, feminists would jumps all over the researcher for being misogynic. Therefore, society accepts that women are smarter than men.
(In all honesty though, school are geared towards women. At a very early age, boys are treated as defective girls as they tend to not know how to express emotion and lash out in outbursts of violence, resulting in disciplinary actions. Girls do not typically demonstrate this kind of behavior. Also as recess time is cut, it makes young boys more jittery as they are not allowed to release tension through exercise. Don't even get me started on how dodgeball and tag are being cut from school programs because they're too "violent", which seems to be a synonym for boyish. /rant)

That's why males are stronger and faster. The females needed to be smarter so they can teach the children all sorts of stuff. Make sense?

2 RespuestasThis repressed emotions and outbursts of violence are not a infliction automatically granted on every boy, but rather a result of how society perpetuates gender roles. From an extremely early age boys are told not to cry, not to participate in "girly activities", and to make sure that every action they are doing is masculine. This results in boys that are unequipped to deal with whatever negative emotions they may experience, using the outlet of violence (the only real negative emotion they haven't been denied) to cope with any issue. The inability to properly display emotion is crippling, but it is in fact the patriarchy's fault, not the school system's. In fact, one could even argue that, in the later grades, school is slanted strongly in favor of men. Women must adhere to a strict dress code, and are essentially punished because boys can't focus on their work when they can see skin above the knees, which is hardly fair to women. The main argument in favor of the dress code states that girls are distracting from boys learning by wearing promiscuous clothing, but should we not instead be teaching boys to control themselves (and in turn, prevent more -blam!-s)? In addition, whenever a girl is dress coded, they are immediately taken out of class until a suitable replacement article of clothing could be found, which could take up to an entire hour. That means that, just because some boy could handle an exposed shoulder, some girl is being removed from the classroom, where it is IMPOSSIBLE to learn. To answer your question, men and women (and those in between) all have the potential to be equally intelligent, but unfair limitations are being placed on both genders that limit them from reaching their full potential.

Can you give me some sort of proof that allowing boys to have more violent recess periods would somehow equal out this learning gap you claim exists? "I didn't have recess like ever and I still consistently score higher on all my IQ tests, and basic knowledge tests than all my peers." That's my testimony. I really only had recess for like 20 minutes a day for about three years. My schools just didn't have long recess. I did amazing in school. Why couldn't every other boy.... Hell. I did better than virtually every girl in the schools I went to. Except there were a few people higher than me... Maybe... and bear with me... maybe "intelligence" is a combination of genetic disposition and the socioeconomic factors surrounding an individual's upbringing. Nah... That's ridiculous. That couldn't be it. Maybe females, as a gender, have a different biological make-up that allows them to do better in the public school system, kind of like how they physically and mentally mature faster than men. That's a possibility. Or maybe it's simply the culture in different areas that effect how each gender performs overall. You just seem a little anti-estrogen, it's kind of off-putting.

7 RespuestasThat is not the case at all. They don't see an intellectual difference between males and females. However in Western cultures extroverts are thought of as more intelligent while introverts are thought of as less intelligent. This is because the business culture in the West is geared toward those who voice their opinions the loudest rather than effectively. Not that I'm saying that business is totally mindless, but it definitely likes the people who speak more rather than the people who think more.

Anyone who ever tells me that one is smarter than the other, I always respond with "Not possible, you're one of them". And also, the fact that schools are cutting back on contact sports is a side effect of us growing soft as a species, not school being geared towards another gender.

However, and assuming of course that the OP is a male, this thread's original post clearly demonstrates that women are smarter than men. And [i]no[/i], it's not because the schools are being skewed in a pro-female manner as the OP claims (even while presenting little hard evidence to suggest such a bias in school practice). Anyway, I'm going to sincerely hope this thread was made as a form of trolling because if not... well....
