This is a serious question? Can anyone explain how the rng system works?(I know it's random but their numbers have to mean something.) It seams like the same people in my raid group are getting the same gear multiple times and others are getting the same weapons but no gear! It's very disappointing seeing friends get TWO characters to lvl 30 before I can even get ONE piece of raid gear for my characters! So can someone explain how the system works?

The more shit you are in crucible the better gear you get.

I got Tails 4 times in a row before getting Heads, and then Tails again. Statistically I'd expect 3 Heads and 3 Tails (50/50) but it's random, so it may not work out that way on the first few coin flips. However, the more I flip that coin, the more the statistics will tend toward an even distribution of 50/50. The same goes for your raid. You may see some people get incredibly lucky with their rolls while you appear to get screwed over (or vice versa), but the more you roll the dice on your gear, the more your luck will level out with everyone else.
If the chance of getting a piece of gear is 25% (a number I made up): - After 1 raid... your friend may have 1 raid piece, and you may have 0. - After 2 raids.... your friend may have 2 raid pieces, and you may have 1. - After 5 raids.... your friend may have 4 raid pieces, and you may have 2. - After 10 raids.... your friend may have 5 raid pieces, and you may have 4. - After 50 raids... your friend may have 12 raid pieces, and you may have 13. - After 1000 raids.... your friend may have 251 and you may have 249. Point is... it will level out the more you do the raid.
Just like it's very unlikely you'll flip 10 heads in a row, it's unlikely you'll never get your remaining piece of gear.

the numbers mason...

Think of an item you really really want Then be prepared to NEVER have that item for at least 2 months That's RNG

Bungie bots look at your inventory and listen to your recorded voice chat where you state your wishes and hopes. Then chooses shards or energy if your lucky.

3 RespuestasThe way RNG works on any game is a hit-and-miss system. Let's say you have a big whiteboard with a few black dots on it. Those dots are loot drops. A RNG generates a coordinate and if there is a black dot on that point, you get loot. If not, no. If you do, it pulls up a table with percentages/chances of getting it. It puts those items on another whiteboard, except this one is covered in huge splotches of different coloured marker. Each marker is a different item, RNG generates a coordinate and then you get that item. http://i.imgur.com/dPNh8nd.png is how the game Warframe handles this situation. That's a representation of their algorithm. I feel as if Destiny has more http://i.imgur.com/SmHhNzR.pnglink and as you can see, there is a huge difference.

2 RespuestasIt's about the luck...I've done raid 3 times now and the best thing I've got is shards...that's all I get...my mate however managed to get 2 armour pieces - (chest and legs) and hard light on his first attempt.

Wheel of fortune is the best description for RNG

I DONT GET GEAR -blam!- OFF :(
-
once you 5 of an item type it switches to next one.
-
I'm also getting screwed pretty hard. I have completed Vault of Glass 15 times and have only gotten one piece of raid gear.
-
If you are really interested in learning how it works read en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudorandom_number_generator Be forewarned it's long and boring.
-
It works by -blam!-ing me over wherever possible.
-
Think of it as a series of percentage chances or dice-rolls, mate, linked to a series of 'catalogue lists'.... Will something drop? What colour is it? Armour or weapon? Type? For what class?

It's like rolling dice with infinite numbers on those dice.

Who said it does work?

It's just a slot machine

7 RespuestasMost likely if you are the top player you get nothing, if you're lucky maybe a blue. and if you are the last player or barely do anything you get a blue engram that is a possible shard or purple. More chance of getting something if you're in the middle. My recent post which included this: http://imgur.com/YIUrUJ1 another at last place: http://imgur.com/qMiToAw compare to that guy on First with 33 kills. here is another of me on Top http://imgur.com/qMiToAw but only the last 3 people got stuff. That's why you see a lot of people purposely doing bad, just to keep their score under the top 3 players. and lastly the top player didn't get anything.. I got in 3rd place and got myself an Exotic Hand Cannon. http://imgur.com/UXAiygZ

chaos theory.

This game is broken Period.
-
it doesnt.
-
Basically what it says, random number generated, it generates a random number between a max an a minimum, for example the nightfall would be rng for legendary and exotic, which would be between a max and min, however a normal strike say would be everything, the more common items just have more numbers assigned to them. So kt is completely random

Magic??

As far as I can tell it works randomly.
