I dont see a point in paying more for a less powerful machine. PS4 is (in specs and raw power, not in games for the moment) FACTUALLY better than the xbox one. as boogie2988 put it "The Xbox One is a fantastic entertainment device... that also plays games" but that the PS4 "...is the console for gamers, by gamers."

It's a $100 dollar difference for a long term investment. I think most people went for the PS4 because of the Xbox One reveal, to be honest. One of my friends said he just had a feeling that Xbox would fail, but had no evidence to back it up, which leads me to believe he didn't take the time to look into either console so he just went with what the masses were saying from before the 180°.
