So I'm currently studying Philosophy, History, Politics and English Language at Sixth Form. English just isn't working out, and I'm not sure how to proceed.
I'm good at English. I got an A* in Literature and an A in Language at GCSE, but all of my subjects are pretty intensive in terms of writing, essays and homework which isn't great . But this wouldn't be so much of a problem if it weren't for my teacher. I hate her. I'll try to be as impartial as possible in my description.
I have three lessons with her a week. She's unhelpful and consistently condescending. Last Friday we were reading a text on the condition of workers in sweatshops. One student asked what the definition of 'globalisation' is and the teacher responded with: 'Seriously? You don't know what globalisation means' and left it to another student to explain what it meant. Also, whenever someone asks what a certain bit of terminology means, she oftentimes is mocking or insulting while telling us not to worry if we don't get it all.
And just today she told us to make brief notes as she went through various slides on a PowerPoint presentation. So I made brief notes on the slide and sat waiting. She looked at me and said 'Are you making notes, Ashton? Because you're just sat there like this (insert blank face with open mouth)' to which I replied 'Yes, miss.' 'What, in your head?' she asked; 'No, on the paper' I said. She said 'I would hope so' and then continue with the presentation.

Come on oldfag sparkles! Don't give up! You can do it!
-
Why would you drop a course with finals in a month? Unless UK semesters are totally different.
-
Unless she's really bad, I'd hold out. Trials build character. I mean, I'm not there. My advice is somewhat invalid because I haven't seen her manner of teaching for myself.

Go for it.

2 RespuestasEditado por Ad Hoc: 11/12/2013 11:43:24 PMIf you think you can sustain your other classes along with English, you should stay. You won't get anywhere in life if you let assholes push you around. EDIT: And what the hell is Sixth Form? And why are you calling your teacher miss? That's weird.

Editado por Ad Hoc: 11/12/2013 11:47:25 PMOn another note, I can kind of understand why a lot of teachers are condescending. It can very frustrating trying to teach kids who are stupid and don't care. It makes you feel worthless.

4 RespuestasSo you're butt hurt, can't handle a bitchy person and want to quit? Haha people like you make life so much more rewarding for the rest of the people who stick out the hard times to the end.
no don't be a quitter. You go to school to learn, not to be praised for good behaviour.
Drop it like its hot, drop drop it like its hot

7 RespuestasMaybe you should just take notes with your mouth closed?

Is she hawt?

If you can graduate without it, drop it like a rod of uranium.
-
You need to do English
-
It depends on what you want to do afterwards because English is a requirement for some things.
-
Get rid of it your other subjects are more important
-
Stick with it, we've all had teachers like that before. I remember mine...

In the American equivalent (high school) that's not uncommon, rude teachers are a curse lol. It's not so bad in college/university, at least for me, most profs just want you to work hard and if anything mean is said it's usually just cynical, not actually directed at you the student.
-
2 RespuestasMaybe if you and your class weren't so stupid she wouldn't be so condescending...
-
Keep at it. Don't let a bitchy teacher stop you from doing something you're good at.
