They don't for me. Not anymore.
This is where some might get butthurt:
I've played too many awful games like Skyward Sword and Uncharted 3 which earned multiple 10/10s. I'm not a Halo 4 hater like many of you, I play it regularly, but damn that is NOT a 9.8, especially at launch.
No. Some reviewers have a completely different idea of what constitutes a quality product than I do. For example, Call of Duty: Ghosts actually has an 8.8 on IGN.
-
In the case of Sonic 06, I bought it just to see if it was as bad as people made it out to be.
Boy were they -blam!-ing right
1 RespuestaI watch reviews to see gameplay and to see what the game is about and features in the game. If a reviewer says a game is too hard, and gives it a lower score because of that, and I want to play a difficult game, then I disregard the lower score. Or if they say something contradictory to what they're showing in the gameplay, for instance they say they don't like the art style, and I think the art style looks cool, I'll disregard what they say there. I'm just looking for what they are saying the gameplay is like, and I'll make my own judgment based on what they showed and said the game is about. And I'll watch like 5 different reviews.
-
I watch reviews for gameplay, and to see some of the mechanics. The review score doesn't matter, but reviews usually delve into the core gameplay mechanics.
-
Editado por Vgnut: 3/10/2014 9:16:44 PMTo a degree. If reviews are universally mediocre or average at best then that game is probably going to be mediocre or average.
-
Not really, I watch them but everyone is different so I'll watch gameplay and play the demos.
-
It depends. If its a game that I know by default will be good like the halo series (excluding Halo 4). But if it's a game that I'm new to, I will check reviews and gameplay videos as much as possible. For example: I was new to the battlefield series, and I wanted to get the fourth game and said, "I need to get this game!". So yeah. There should be a "depends" option.

1 RespuestaHey why are people bumping my threads
-
Not in the slightest. A reviewer is just another person playing a game. I don't know what their likes are, or if they have an agenda. I read previews for a game and watch videos, and make a decision based on these. Have I ever had buyers remorse? Sure. But the amount of games I wouldn't have bought, when in fact I really liked them is about 10 times bigger.
-
If I know very little about a game, I sometimes look at a review (that saved me from buying the apparently broken mess that is Deadfall Adventures), but most of the time I don't even look at them.
-
Steam shows the meta score so I'll take a glance at that and read some of the player reviews. Watching YouTube clips of people playing is typically the seller if I'm unsure about it.
-
Yes, I typically check Metacritic, to see what the game I'm interested in is rated. If it's rated below a 70 I typically won't consider it. If the total ratings equal 80 or more, I'll look more into the game, watch some youtube videos to get more opinions and see if the gameplay is something I'd want. I don't buy games just on reviews. After all, Skyrim is critically acclaimed but I can't stand the game. Reviews do however influence my purchases.

Editado por Gingers Unite: 3/10/2014 2:27:13 AMYou saw that Halo 4 review on IGN didn't you?
-
I usually find out what gamers of similar tastes like, for instance if a majority of Halo players say they like Titanfall, I'll take their word for it.
-
Bad reviews kill games I'm on the fence about. Word of mouth positive reviews get me to buy games I haven't considered.
-
Depends on who is reviewing it. For example: if a person gives it a score (i.e. X/10) I instantly ignore them.
-
On B.net? Everybody has nostalgia glasses on. So, nope.

I used to buy games blindly at launch, but recent failures that I've bought that I immediately wanted my money back for( aliens CE, SWTFU2, and two worlds 2), i now look at reviews before any purchase. Except for destiny. I'll follow this title to oblivion and back :)
-
Yes, but not the sole thing I look at. For example, some games I buy at launch right away because the developer has made games I really loved before and believe they will do it again. Others I might look into on the recommendation of a friend, see what he thinks, check multiple reviews, and see gameplay videos to decide whether or not to get it.
-
No. I play/ borrow from a friend or ask if they think I'd like it. My friends know my taste in games to be able to recommend me ones they know I'd like.
-
They honestly do, but I do my own research and judgement for the most part
-
1 RespuestaMaybe a long time ago but not now in the age of bought scores and other underhanded practices.
-
I check youtube videos for gameplay as well. I want to know what I'm getting myself into before I just drop $60 for a game.
