There are many things I would be excited to see in Destiny, but one that sticks in my mind after reading a few articles are the unique weapons. In many games "unique" weapons aren't really all too hard to find, and in an MMO-esque shooter that means a lot of people will have access to them. These weapons need to be limited to one copy of each in the game's universe, so only one person can hold them at a time.
Bungie could also possibly implement a weapon scaling system for standard weapons that records kill counts on certain enemies, close calls, and other special things of that nature and let the player name said weapon after a certain amount of time holding it. Then when the player drops the weapon or trades up, the weapon becomes a new "unique" weapon available to the public.
Just a thought.

1 RespuestaI like the idea but I think one is maybe too few. I wouldn't mind if, like Borderlands, you could farm bosses and they would eventually drop powerful and rare weapons. This way not everyone has one but it's still possible for everyone to get it if they put in the effort. If they did have this "one gun only" thing the gun would have to be unbelievable and really difficult to find. That way players could fight to get it and it would be a nice challenge. Good ideas from you nonetheless

I wouldn't go for as extreme a limit as "one per universe at any given time" for rare weapons, but i LOVE the idea of creating an alternative: creating a great weapon by using it and it becoming legend through its use. In this way, it accounts for the people who play a lot (and get the kills and records required to "level up" the gun) but don't get the lucky drops that other players get. This way, there is never a time when a raid is a waste; at the very least you got your gun a little closer to being more accurate/more powerful/whatever. Do you think this would interfere or maybe obstruct the idea of player leveling? If they are both happening simultaneously, is there a fear that your character's development is second-fiddle to the development of the gun? I'm just trying to think about how it would affect your development if you had to level the gun at the same time.

One copy? What? That sounds so stupid, why would only one person get to have something like that? That's a terrible idea, and the reason they make games, not you. Lol

1 RespuestaEditado por ErasableShark: 3/25/2013 6:18:19 PMIt would be cool if they put a rare ancient weapon from earth's past into the game. A type of special hidden item. Like in Metal Gear Solid 4, with that 1500's Samurai flint lock rifle that can create a tornado when you shoot it.

8 RespuestasI would love this idea. Imagine one of the best players in the game has a gun called Sting which glows blue when Space Zombies are around. Then imagine that he hides it somewhere and then posts on some public message board and starts a scavenger hunt showing people how to find his weapon. Cool idea, but I am afraid that this wouldn't be very practical at the end of the day. In a more practical sense, I would like it if Bungie programmed in special events that have, say, a <1% chance of occurring at random in specific places. At the end of these events, a special gun is waiting. Maybe even put in an option to let you name it. This way seems much more doable. It doesn't make a weapon entirely exclusive, yet it limits it in a way that ultimately feels organic.

11 RespuestasI am all for 'rare' or 'unique' weapons however there can't be just one. There has to be a realistic number. What if a player gets it and never gets back on? Weapon is lost to an entire subset of players. At this point you could argue that there could be methods in place to prevent this like if they don't log in for a few weeks it gets put back into the world, however this is all redundant and avoidable if you don't get this problem in the first place. Instead have limited edition weapons, or make a weapon or item extremely difficult to get. Challenge.
-
I think a title system for weapons would work well. The weapons change as they receive new titles and they receive new titles based on thing like how they are used, how many times they've changed hands etc. Eventually you could have titles that have a limited number such as 1000 or 10000 or whatever depending on how large the player community is. For the limited titles it would be determined by weapons with the highest of something. Like top 1000 weapons with over 30000 kills. So that would be the 1000 weapons with the highest number of kills after 30000. This would fix the problem of rare titles getting lost to accounts going inactive. Although naming guns could be cool I feel way too many guns would come out with stupid or inappropriate names.

7 RespuestasWhile I don't like the idea of only a single copy of "rare" weapons, I absolutely love the idea of players' weapons becoming legendary. Maybe even up that stats of a weapon a little bit once it has become legendary and it has left the hands of the original owner. Not only would this help create unique and possibly well known weapons, I feel it would also contribute to the persistent world and allow players to change and influence that world, like Bungie has been suggesting. It could even influence the lore of later games if implemented, which would be cool just because it would have been a player's weapon that went down in legend.
-
I like the idea of being able to drop weapons for a weaker character for a friend. And naming guns should be implamented as well as being able to send a gun to your friends space ship. Almost like you can send them messages and they go to there ship and can read them so then some can be attachted with a weapon or even currency of some sort. If Bungie decides to do so at least. Replie to me I want to see your comments about this...

Also I really hope they make it so that each player gets an equal share of the loot at the end of a battle/whatever. e.g. you kill the boss and a gun appears on the floor, except you are the only one that can interact with this gun and the other players see different guns on their screens. Each player has an equal chance of getting rare loot, and one player getting rare loot doesn't affect the chances of another player getting some. You would've thought that bungie would forsee the problem of loot robbing and implement this or something with the same effect. I hope so anyway ...

4 RespuestasEditado por GUARDIAN ZERO: 3/22/2013 8:06:26 AMJust to add another random thought among my few posts on this thread -- After reading the debate between DeathByReason and McJagger23 I've had a mindgasm.... How about "Rare Weapons" are rare weapon drops which work like you both somewhat agreed upon: Guns dropped with an incredibly low percentage rate, after a boss or something like that. Now envision that this "rare gun" is only a base for something you get to create. Interesting, yes? Let's say the boss drops a "Mysterious Magnum", with an incredibly bland appearance and only "???????" as its name, (a la the first truly successful platform MMO, Phantasy Star Online). This bland gun has epic stats, and yet no personality. Then, you get to make it into whatever you desire! So you find this pistol after killing some boss creature, or digging deeeeeep deep into some ancient ruins on the moon, and then your reward is to get to show your personal flavor to the world! You get to decide on its design, if it's a retro six-shooter or a futuristic looking glock, its laser/bullet flash color, whether it even fires lasers, bullets or small children, the stocks, sights, reload and firing sounds/motions, colors, attachments of all kinds and decals, maybe even a custom description and name after all's said n' done. A completely customizable gun, that is ALL YOU EVER WANTED IT TO BE. I mean, isn't that what we all want anyways? Isn't that what most gaming is about, expressing yourself to the world through your fingertips? Now, separate from these "Badass Base Guns" that you get to customize, there will be lower tier rares, which, although still powerful, will have predetermined traits and only a certain amount of customization options. I personally believe all guns should allow you to name them after you meet some required amount of headshots, or kills, or whatever. I mean, c'mon, we're going to be fighting aliens in space and I'm not even allowed to call my gun "Lola" if I want to? It's MY GUN. lol. But let's say I can only change Lola's color, sight and decals and for all other traits I just have to take her as she is. Having this separation of rare options Vs. Super Rare Options will still allow for Bungie to fill the game with Easter Egg Guns and Badass Legendary Guns alike, but the really rare ones will be the ones WE create. After all they've said themselves, the more important stories are the ones we tell, not the ones they do, yes? Thoughts, gentleman?

2 RespuestasSome pretty cool ideas there, guy. If this were possible, I'd like the system to be extremely time-investive. It should take a billion years to earn yourself a Legendary weapon!

1 RespuestaEditado por Oddball: 3/25/2013 5:52:00 PMHow about if rare weapons were just that, only hundreds or a thousand players have them, but unique weapons could act as the 'Recon' of Destiny. Seeing as Bungie likes to watch us, they could set internal unannounced goals that upon completion would merit a unique weapon, perhaps relevant to the obscure* requirements of it's attainment. They could also hold events, like a Double EXP Weekend, with a clear goal set with announced requirements to reach for people to compete over. * Think IWHBYD Skull level obscurity.
-
A procedural way of creating weapons might be cool (a la borderlands) as long as there's enough variety, and it's not just for the sake of variety. I'm definitely hoping that the weapons system keeps me interested enough to want to keep hunting for them. I have faith that it will anyway based on a response to one of the mail sack questions.
-
3 RespuestasWhat if, by completing a certain goal in the game, you are rewarded a unique weapon. A weapon that you can name and call your own, one that you can customize all of the stats (within boundaries of course) and appearance of. That way it is unique at the same time as fair. What's more, if you can only have one, you must decide on one weapon type, meaning that if your gun can be taken from you, it would be worthwhile to collect different types of player created unique weapons.
-
There should be tiers of weapons. the first being the Chieftain version, same function, but with visual flair. The next should be slightly better in terms of damage, range and accuracy and with cool names. The final should be truly unique, only existing in one's or small groups. Customization should be available through all the weapons, and I like the idea of individual stats being recorded per weapon, though it would have to be reset frequently, or only display the best user's stats.
-
6 RespuestasIf the basic weapon stats mention Legendary or Mythic... then that's all I need to go bananas.
-
I think the rare weapons idea is good, but I wouldn't want any current tech to be considered rare. To be more clear, if bungie wants to include ancient human or alien tech that is more sophisticated than the tech of the era in which destiny is set, I support that. If they simply want to slap the word rare on an otherwise common weapon and beef the stats, I disagree because, to me, it is a bit cheesy that one random assault rifle out of millions does a ton of damage, more accuracy, etc.
-
5 RespuestasI get what your saying but one player out of more than 10+ million players is a bit much. Gamers could play for the entire game life cycle which will be 10 years, 2 hours a day, everyday and not receive a legendary/Unique weapon. That is unfair.
-
I would prefer a weapon with a much lower then .0001% chance of dropping therefor if the player that obtains a rare weapon drops out the weapon is not lost forever.
-
2 RespuestasYes, sort of like the Elder Wand (if you've read Harry Potter). I can see an amazing weapon being created, then lain in the world. I lucky traveler finds it and boasts about it to all his friends and uses it in battle. Eventually it catches to much attention and the guy is assassinated and the gun stolen. This could repeat many times. You would have the power of an amazing weapon, but it would make you a marked man.

2 RespuestasEditado por GUARDIAN ZERO: 3/20/2013 6:05:05 AMI love this idea! To add my own flavor to it, I'd say limiting the amount in the game would be cool. Imagine someone saying to you, "DUDE, you have the [Insert Epic Name Here]!? Only like four of those exist in the universe!" That would make you swell with pride. I think Bungie could handle it. Also -- Imagine this -- What if players can hide their own weapons, and name them, customize them and give them their own stories? Obviously this would have to be regulated heavily, but imagine you love a gun a lot but it is no longer of use to you. You name it something cool, leave a little note or backstory with it that others will discover. You choose one of the game's pre-selected avaliable spots for it to go in where nobody else's gun currently is, (in your universe, or however that will work). Then, every time you log in, the matchmaking system preferably puts you into a universe/lobby where that gun spot isn't filled, and it replaces whatever normal loot would've been there. And once somebody finds your gun, you're allowed to place another one. AND/OR you have to kill a certain amount of enemies with a gun, or spend a long time using said gun to make it legendary, and thus worthy of hiding. The game's normal flow is uninterrupted since only normal loot is replaced, and the game can even scale up or down your weapon according to the stats of the person who finds it. Imagine setting challenges for your friends, like, "DeathByReason, I bet you can't find my Sassy Gal Sniper, (I envision a huge, bolt-action army-green rifle with a blonde pin-up woman on the side, yellow ticks on the side for number of kills, "Sassy Gal" in big, red 1960's style lettering), in the depths of the Cabalian Caves." That would just be cool as hell, especially if the game pinged you when someone finds your weapon, and gives you their tag so you can message them about it. Maybe you could message them once they find it and say things like, "Need a sidearm for that sexy sniper? There -might- be one in the Fallen Wasteland..." And hide another gun for them to find. Imagine naming a powerful gun something really fun, or cool and then it becomes prolific, like legendary, and people are like, PROUD to have the thing that YOU thought up in their hands/holster. That's just so cool! Talk about bringing people together! The community writing small stories for itself!? Sweet! Thoughts?

1 RespuestaI really like the idea of being able to name weapons and leave them for people. It just seems like a nice way to make your "mark" on the world.

12 RespuestasI like the ideas that a lot of people have been proposing but lets be a bit realistic for a moment and leave wonderland behind. If a system is put in place where players can level up their weapons to "legendary" or "rare" status then there would be legendary weapons around every corner in less than a month. Its a system that will be its own demise really. Imagine this: a player upgrades a sniper rifle to "legendary" status by accomplishing a certain task and equipping different components. After a while it becomes a well coveted weapon so he gets rid of it (either by selling it for a high price or trading for a better weapon). What's to stop that very same player from making an exact duplicate of the previous weapon? Nothing. I say just let bungie do what they do best and create a game that will entertain us. I'm positive that gaining a "legendary" or "rare" weapon will require an crap load of not only work but luck. Hell I would even assume that it would require most people to play cooperatively to even get a chance to get one (and even then it would be like playing legendary x 10 on Halo). On top of this I think most of them would be prizes from limited time events which would even further reduce the total number in play. As I said I liked the ideas that have been proposed and I'm not saying that they shouldn't allow players to level up their weapons though constant use. Hell it would be kinda cool. I would just picture said leveled up weapons being barely superior to their original counterparts at most.

5 RespuestasThis game isn't an MMO so my guess is they won't do this. There might be one of each weapon per universe but it is unlikely that they will do this because this might create enemies and people complaining over who got a weapon. What if you killed a guy and got a rare weapon but a guy swooped in and took your weapon. So my guess is they will be hard to find but there will be more than one of them.
