What happened to the fun?

I remember getting to log on and just have fun. Run through strikes and just have fun. Even some raid stuff was just fun. Now it is all grind. Everything has to have so many negative modifiers and everything is timed. It took all of the fun away when everything we do requires high focus. I don’t play to have another job. I play to have fun with friends and other online people. Seriously. Go back to the drawing board and figure out what fun means after a long day of work or any other life difficulties. Also, this moving everything in the director to only use the portal? That ain’t it. I guess you lost the playbook on immersive experience and fun. If I want to just grind out disjointed modes with no cohesion I’ll go play a card game or something. 10 years of amazing immersive story (not perfect) and you drop it all in the trash. Ever wonder why people actually pay monthly for some games? They are fun.

    • Log on First thing you see is a lifeless list of jobs they want you to accomplish. Forces your hand to add a bunch of modifiers you don't want Pulls you away from activities you want to play Removes all social aspect to ensure you suffer alone. And reminds you over and over again that you are here to work in the mines NOT have fun doing the things you want with the gear and weapons you want. You play by Bungie rules not your own.

        • Do the Destiny devs even know fun anymore? Oh, they do. Plenty of them know exactly what fun looks like. The problem isn’t the devs. It’s the suits. They’ve buried the game under layers of garbage because they only care about short-term engagement metrics and cash shop spikes. Whether players are actually enjoying themselves doesn’t factor in at all. We’re just treated as one big consumer blob to be manipulated for shareholder slides. That’s the real “design doc” now. And let’s be honest, this isn’t the A team of suits or devs anymore. Those people left a long time ago. What we’re left with feels like a C or D team of maintenance staff. They are stuck keeping a declining franchise alive instead of building the hottest projects out there. At this point it doesn’t even feel like Destiny. It’s just a Destiny-themed skin stretched over an aggressive free-to-play model that exists to wring more money out of you. The systems that made people fall in love with this franchise are almost unrecognizable now.

            • Bungie said they were making the game harder and have been at it since. All the elite players chiming in with "the game is easy", "it has never been easier", "the game is a cakewalk", continue to drive bungie to make the game harder every expansion. Now it is at a point some of them are not happy. Games should be fun for the majority, not the minority of players. Who cares if an elite player trivializes a boss fight. Bungie has approached the design of the game as if it is as simple as putting bread into a toaster. As if every player has completed every thing and has access to the best rolls on everything. Nothing could be farther from the truth, many players do not have the best rolls on everything, do not fully understand the complex system they continue to change and make more complex. Bungie should focus on make the game fun and engaging! Remove power deltas remove timers remove limited revives increase rewards Drop tier 5 gear at a way lower light level increase the number of pinnacles a player can earn a week The portal sucks, the rewards suck, the scores has still not been explained, the whole game is not fun, not engaging!

              • Hi. I'm a D1 beta player that finally gave up earlier this year. Indeed way back then the game was fun. I've always been a pvp player, but what I liked about Destiny was I could go into pvp high intensity and then kind of relax and play a few pve. Also the loop made sense because a lot of time I'd find better weapons in pve that then I'd try out in pvp. A lot has happen since then and any of us could write an essay on what we think went wrong, but I'll just say what drove me away (well, not totally since I since check out the forums every once in a while). First, as a pvp guy, the ability spam. Yeah Destiny was always about space magic, but over the years imho they pushed on the sauce too much. Too many buffs and puffs and too much visual noise that a lot of times left me like wtf is going on. Some may like it, I don't. Then population decrease which led to ever increasing dificulty in pvp. I remember having a group that got together on Friday night to get to the lighthouse in D1. We always managed it and it was fun. Eventually it got so hard that it was just frustrating. And then, of course, what you talk about and made me post -- the grind for the sake of grinding. Ever more convoluted and hard and ever less rewarding. I don't think this game will make a comeback. It was a good run and I keep fond memories of it, but I truly believe it has run its course. On Steam, sometimes it has less people playing than CS2 has players searching for a new game. And btw, Marathon ain't it either.

I'm almost at 5000 hours on this game and am mostly a PVP player, but do still run a lot of PVE as well. All I can say is that I'm sick of this BS they have put out now. I will not be buying any more expansions or season passes because I could just as easily throw my hard earned money up a hog's a*s and watch it run over the hill. Bungle can take this new armor and tier, modifier, stupid grind and the eververse store and shove it up their rears until they hit their elbows. I may still play some PVP, but I'm not doing all of this other stupid sh*t...pure garbage. Shame...

              • Completely agree! Pre EoF, I used to log on and enjoy literally EVERY activity. Even when I felt some parts of the story could have been better or didn't match past lore, I STILL enjoyed playing. I could mindlessly run strikes, seasonal activities, or go solo a dungeon or a GM Nightfall if I wanted to challenge myself. We ran several raids a week in my clan. I helped several people get raid seals they were chasing. There were a good 2 solid pages of players on every day. Now...it's a ghost town. No one wants to raid. I can't get anyone for any activities. After getting to 400 before Ash and Iron, it was such a slog, I did 107 Caldera and several runs of the other solo activities. It HAS become more like a second job. There are times after work that I log on and just play around with armor ornaments and shaders, then log off. I can't bring myself to do the stuff I enjoyed, because it just isn't there anymore. The Kepler story was good, but the power grind and delta are just too much for someone with a full time job. Being 50+ under for nearly every activity just to get good loot is demoralizing and has effectively destroyed the bliss I found in this game pre EoF. This game that I met so many people to make life less lonely. Now it's a lonely solo grind that just elicits angry Hive noises from me.

Nothing in the game is fun. I went to grind inverted spire for the new sidearm this morning. I was met with randoms dying and leaving, -40 delta, a timer, screebers, oscillation, shrouded enemies, etc.. it sucks. The game sucks now, and i am starting to make my peace with it. If B4 is good.... destiny 2 will be put behind me.

              • Simple answer here. The current team at Bungle Studios is incapable of creating anything fun or interesting. They lack the talent, skill and creativity to progress this game any further. That’s why you see nothing but broken content (release after release after release); constant recycling of old content, constant nerfs to exotic weapons and armor that’s working yet ignoring the ones that need buffing, the list goes on.

You can’t see the trend? There is no more fun. The people in charge of destiny now aren’t capable of creating anything near the experience that the original destiny team created It’s sad but the trend is the game is going to get less and less fun, at least while amateurs sit on the iron throne (Osiris Voice)

Agree, bring back the fun not this massive under powered, can't see health, can't see hub radar abilities. There are no hero moments, nothing that makes us feel powerful. Just a slog for everything. This is a game, throw rewards at us not drip feed, we aren't Oliver Twist. If it isn't obvious to them by player count and all the streamers/youtubers getting fed up.

              • Yes, have you seen anyone soloing a GM this season? It used to be a classic challenge of build testing in previous season. But now between the timer and s***loaf of modifiers, no one is doing that anymore. And that speak to how overturned the difficulty is.

It should be obvious by now, that Bungie doesn't like when players have fun. You are enjoying playing with a specific weapon that has something special? No, no, no... we cannot have that! Let's rush to nerf it! You are having a blast with a special load out? No, no, no... we cannot have that! Let's rush a fix that will render it useless! You grinded for hours and hours to get that special drop that is super op and you finally got it? No, no, no.... we cannot have that. The day after you got it to drop, it's nerfed. You finally have the vault full of good rolls after innumerable hours of farming? No, no, no... we cannot have that! Let's vault half of all you have accumulated, and let's also eliminate some of those currency you are full of, for good measure, so we can put you back on the hamster wheel! You have found a sweet spot on the map where you can DPS the boss without getting instantly obliterated? No, no, no.... we cannot have that! Let's put a Shriker that constantly spawns right in that spot, oh, and since we are at it, let's close all doors and force the players in a very tight space where they are rushed from all sides by wave after wave of enemies and some 'Champions', while the boss goes immune every 10 seconds, and... oh, yes... let's add lots of jumping puzzles, a stomping mechanic and a timer on top of all that! You have having fun leveling up quickly so that you can gain access to the end game and enjoy playing raids with your friends? No, no, no.... we cannot let you level up too quickly! Let's make it a boring pointless, never ending, unrewarding grind, so that, by the time the you reach the light level for a raid, the new season is already here and you are back at square one once again. Why not add also a feature when you can rank up faster and skip some of the grind by spending real money? Isn't it a genial idea? Players are, after all mindless addicts who would throw money at the screen no matter the garbage we toss at them! You are super excited because finally, for once, this DLC looks good and it has a good story, and missions and quests that are actually enjoyable to play? No, no, no.... we cannot have players with too high expectations, otherwise we actually need to work hard to deliver good content that's worth the price tag! Next time, better recycle some old content and throw in the mix a few reskins and a couple old maps, since we are at it, and call it a day. You are having fun at playing the story at your own pace, cause you want to see how it ends? No, no, no... we cannot have players that are already finished with the whole story in a couple of weeks! Let's make the content time gated and drip feed them, so that they have to keep coming back every week until the next season! You are having fun completing a lot of bounties to get some more Bright Dust? No, no, no... we cannot have players earning too much Bright Dust, otherwise they are not going to buy Silver, so let's eliminate the bounties and introduce a different more convoluted system to slow them down! You want to use the guns you like and the load out you like and tuned up and perfected, to play that difficult content? No, no, no... we cannot have players using the same guns and load outs for more than one season! So, let's force them to use the guns and the load outs we decide they should use each season, by means of the 'Artifact' and the 'Champions' mechanics. And now also with the Armor special features that change with every release! So we are in control of what the players are going to use at any given time! ................. [Feel free to add yours to the list. I am pretty sure there's much more than that] This video says it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4omsxNrIIQ

                  • I think the most fun I have ever had in Destiny was when we had the illegal weapons for a few days, where you could glitch crafted weapons into insane combinations, and there were tons of people playing trying to mix crazy configurations. Sure, it was nightmare for some people, (particularly in PvP if you weren't able to fight back with your own) but those were some amazing moments with friends with raucous laughter of deleting Raid bosses. I am not asking for another week of broken crafted weapons but Bungie learned nothing from the experience that players enjoy feeling insanely powerful, not only barely scraping by encounters. Maybe not all the time of course, but loosen up these ridiculous attempts at making the game more challenging and less rewarding because that is the worst possible thing they can do, while these minor +1 "adjustments" are pitiful.
