With no more raid reprisals on the horizon and only a handful of weapon appraisals needed for D2. I think it would be a free win for Bungie to bring back old D1 armor sets. They’ve made it clear that they understand how non-compelling the loot grind has been in terms of armor. Getting the same handful of world drops with new stats would be super disappointing.
There’s a treasure trove of incredible Destiny 1 armor designs that could be ported into D2. It would also save bungee a lot of time and resources. Resources that could be put into other aspects of the game. I have no doubt that Bungie will give us new armor sets, but having some old ones make a return with that Destiny 1 aesthetic would make grinding out armor drops in Frontiers (and even Frontiers itself) way more enticing.
I don’t know the logistics of porting armor because I’m obviously not a dev. But if random stat armor is going to be a big focus in the next major update It might be worth the investment, whatever it is.

Or the Nightfall could have its own armor that provides bonus points for scoring. Just something to make chasing multiple pieces of armor worth it.

In D1 the Armor models for the Arms slot extended all the way to the shoulder, whereas in D2 they stop at just below the elbow. As an example, here’s Ophidian Aspects in D2: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRK9vHmBd1r3f4pZ1XsajfxBrXOIIT7PVx6Qw&usqp=CAU Compared to how they appeared in D1: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQI4E9pAzwsrAcJ1qoV4SLVyCq-qo1lE2hYQw&s This change in how Arms are modeled for Warlocks unfortunately makes it difficult to bring back an item like Theosyion Vibrissae (my personal favorite Legendary Warlock Arms) as they were a stand alone piece rather than part of an Armor set: https://preview.redd.it/ww49bd4u09r61.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e1e361aea0b8ba89741354be2261ed336a864411 (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

Why would you want Destiny 1 armor when you can have "Sleepy Time" armor?
