Now that I have your attention, let’s fix destiny.
We all read about the seminar where a Bungie rep stated that it wasn’t player frustration that kills a game, it’s player “apathy” that kills the game. That is 100% correct. What creates apathy? Having nothing to do. But there’s plenty to do in destiny 2, why would anyone feel apathy? Because there’s nothing meaningful or enjoyable to do. The game is over saturated with the main thing we’re all here for: LOOT.
Since Rise of Iron, Bungie has implemented turbo mode on all loot drops. They want every player to have all the loot much easier. Legendaries and exotics are handed out every 5 seconds. But the game was in a good state back then even though players were upset that their god rolls rarely dropped, what’s the deal? Well…those players were ANGRY, not apathetic. However, those players now have every piece of loot they could ever want, but numbers are at an all time low. What gives? Welp…we all forgot about the loot grind and had to pay more attention to the actual content, and we realized how boring of a game Destiny is. This is one of those moments where you have to take your own advice, Bungie. You’re killing the main draw of destiny by giving players every piece of loot they want.
So let’s fix that:
1. Reduce drop rates for all legendaries SIGNIFICANTLY.
2. Reduce crafting down to ONLY world drops.
3. Implement sunsetting again, but you HAVE to repopulate the loot pool with as much loot as you’re sunsetting.
4. Reduce exotic drop rates down to a VERY slim number. They’re supposed to be extremely rare, that’s the point.
5. Implement newer targeted methods of loot farming (strike specific loot, but give every yellow bar boss in the game a “boss specific” loot drop themed to the boss).
If you do all of this, casual player will be mad, but they won’t feel apathy. In the process, you might just gain back some of that magic that had us addicted back in D1. You might also see player retention go back up.

2 RespuestasEditado por Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 12/10/2023 4:32:21 AMI am apathetic, but only because of the return to the “joy” of the random drop has meant less new things to try out. They don’t need to sunset. They just need to let me reasonably attain what I want so I can actually have more weapons to try out. Because that’s fun to do. If they would have leaned into crafting instead of away from it, I’d be playing more. A LOT more. I’m apathetic for reasons like: I have never gotten a single dungeon weapon roll that I want from any dungeon, ever. All but one of the world “drops” I’ve gotten the roll I want on since before WQ are ones I bought from Banshee. More like the “joy” of the vendor purchase. 🤷♂️ I have seen exactly one vanguard ops weapon roll that I want since some time before WQ. The large perk pools make focusing for these weapons worthless. In the entire WQ year I received exactly one IB weapon roll that I wanted and it took almost 3 resets. IB match completions dropping more Shaxx weapons than actual IB weapons does not and never will make any sense. I’m apathetic because of the lack of consistency in player agency for chasing weapon rolls. I’m apathetic because ALL of my loadouts use raid and seasonal weapons. That’s it. Why? Because they’re craftable and so I can actually get the rolls I want to use for builds. Playing more because you can get the rolls you want through a reasonable amount of time and effort and can try them out with builds > playing more because 99% of activity completion and focuses are disappointingly unrewarding and you’re expected to helplessly grind without being able to ever improve your odds of getting what you want or earning the roll you want. And so I’m not playing more, I’m actually playing less specifically for this reason. A LOT less. I’m also not paying for dungeons anymore unless they get the raid treatment with focusing/crafting. Final Shape will be the first deluxe edition of an expansion I do not get, and it’s specifically because of how fundamentally unrewarding dungeons are beyond the first run. I’m apathetic because of the game becoming unrewarding. WQ was the most rewarding and fun year, largely because of crafting, and that was still with the existence of some unreasonable grinds. It’s much worse now though. Crafting is the best thing ever added to the game because it’s still RNG but it’s also built in bad luck protection.
