I finally learned to have fun in PvP

I was on a severe loss streak in IB, like nearly 10 stomps in a row and was ready to break my controller in half. I decided since it wasn’t in the cards for me to win, I would just try to finish up the Suros catalyst while playing, and once I stopped worrying about the wins, I actually started having fun? I’m kicking myself for taking matches too seriously for so long.

  • Everytime I go into pvp I willingly lose my mind and subject myself to stasis warlock with ruinous effigy pretty fun watching people unable to move as I slam a nice screw you're meta on their heads.

  • I never take any PvP seriously. Why would I? I'm not trying to be an E-Sports legend or anything, and I'm not in my early 20s, so I'm not trying to impress my friends.

    • That’s how I treat regular crucible. I get more competitive over iron banner and trials.

    • That’s the spirit. Since I didn’t make it to Platinum comp this season I’ve just been trying out builds and guns I don’t normally use. Still stressful sometimes, but productive

Shaxx yells at you saying it. “You need to learn to relax!!!” When you were losing and focused on wins I bet you were tilted and frustrated. This mindset kills innovation and playmaking. You started to relax focus on fun and something other than “what is out of your own control.”

    • Wow, that sounds like you played a CASUAL playlist in a CASUAL looter shooters dead CASUAL pvp playlist as it should be played, CASUALLY. Wonder why player nombers are bleeding and pvp is more dead rn than ever. Might have to do with SBMM forcing sweatlord pvp tournaments in the casual party mode playlists every single matchup while connections are trash and queue times take longer than me graduating college. SBMM is meant for COMP playlists. Not CASUAL pvp.

      • Destiny 2 has been really focusing on newer player, and stomping veteran players that even if you don't worry about wins you will have fun. Bungie seriously made the game to not be taken seriously until you buy most of their content (Which will happen sooner or later since your technically forced to do so to have the full experience) that no matter what you do just relax, and don't force yourself to finish the activity just lay back, use weapons you never used yet, use builds you wanted to test on AI's later on, possibly find ways to do the stupidest of things, use meme loadouts, or overall just be you. The game is your stage have fun whatever way you want.

        • This is a good mindset here. There's just too much RNG involved when queuing solo. You never know who'll you be paired up with or against. There's no protection against lopsided lobbies. Whether you win or not is almost never determined by your own skill or input. This can easily cause frustration if you're just going for wins. The proper way to enjoy casual PvP is to just let go of the idea of Winning or Losing and just play to have fun. You'll still run into those "how did this happen/how is that allowed?" moments; those are inevitable. But the real fun of the game is the gameplay. The best thing to do is to stop thinking of "I need to win this match" and just think "I'm playing the game." Don't worry about feeling like you have to crutch on the meta. Just use what you want and have fun. Matches ending are just break times. Wins and Losses should be irrelevant.

        • Giving yourself meta objectives do wonders. And ironically you find yourself doing better once you find a new angle. Training yourself by accident.

        • This is the problem that a lot have on both sides of this… taking Destiny PvP way to serious! Sure Trials is not for messing around but the other PvP should be more fun then serious as if it’s MLG tournament… I still get pissed off about SBMM or cheaters of any sorts in the game, but if i get stomped for multiple matches in a row, i just take my Jotunn out of my vault to make me laugh at the ridiculousness of it…

        • Except this doesn't even work because the game just breaks all the time and others always find a way to ruin your fun in Destiny somehow and eventually you're just done with it. And when the sandbox is such that trying to do whatever you want isn't all too fun because its such a pain? Yea nah. Even just screwing around it has ceased being fun in entirety and has been such for a good 18 months.

        • I like to call it casual trials. Casual comp. And casual iron banner! Except the only way i can tolerate playing it is after i snoop dog it up or become a raging alcoholic for the night! Bungie is absolutely killin it out there! Literally...

It’s ’really simple’. Forget the meta… Play as dirty and as cheesy as possible in crux. Even if you get stomped, that one time you make something quirky work and kill your opponent because of it will make it fun all around. Couple of suggestions: - cryiostesia on stasis warlock/osmiomancy gloves and the aspect that will allow for more tracers on the ground to snag more freezing targets (it’s just plain evil) - strand titan with drengr’s lash + abor warden chest piece. Use a low barricade and short range weapons to snag your enemies in suspension and kill them ‘easy’. (Not always the most efficient way, but fun when you make it work.) -strand hunter build with 6th coyote and the aspect for double grenades + the shadow on dodge to shoot + the little critters. It’s actually pretty ‘popular’ today in crux, but it’s just filthy how much of an army of critters you can send forth towards them if you play around it. Just embrace the cheese and grow fat from laughter.. enjoy it to the fullest in any way you can. 😂

          • I was playing iron banner earlier with just a fang of ir yut and a gnawing hunger on arc titan and i was not hiding behind the tower barricade with a shotty , i had rally barricade equipped , moved around , did some actual gunplay and did not run towards people only trying to melee them , i did not switch to a bubble titan and spam overshields all match long like those pvp sweats . Some hunter did his tether and i threw a grenade at the same time and i got a triple grenade kill lol , i was legit having fun with my loadout .. then after 2 matches i got matched with real pvp sweats ... And it is not like i was on top of the leaderboard . I matched guys with a 5.00 k/d that are gilded flawless , unbroken and all ... Got sniped by a peek a sniper guy behind the corner (usually warlocks so they can icarus dash away as soon as they hit their shot) , got oneshot meleed or shotgunned by a titan that was hiding behind his barricade , got whipped by a strand hunter that moves around like spiderman . I never been flawless because i simply don't care . I am a pve main . So why am i getting matched with the biggest pvp sweats if i almost never play pvp myself ? Sbmm is a joke . I left that match midgame and turned of my ps5 instantly . It does not matter how long i play or how many kills i have , i should never match gilded flawless guys and other hard to get pvp titles , i only have dead-eye and it took a while to get it , that is my only pvp title , did not even gild it once . Al the rest of the 20 seals that i have are pve related .

            • The Suros catalyst sucks. I had an easier time getting kills with Ticcu's than with Suros. Both the Ticcus & Witherhoard catalysts were the most fun I had in PVP. But yes, once you stop to care about stats, pvp starts to get fun. 👌

            • If you’re running solo don’t judge your performance on win/loss percentages but instead your personal performance. Most importantly have fun man. It’s a video game not a life choice.

              • SBMM instils the notion, Every match needs to be fair, every match needs to be Skill vs Skill, Meta must be used every time. CBMM on the other hand is the opposite.
I would just try to finish up the Suros catalyst while playing, and once I stopped worrying about the wins, I actually started having fun?
You just defined CBMM. Thats the purpose of CBMM.
I would just try to finish up the Suros catalyst while playing, and once I stopped worrying about the wins, I actually started having fun?
Theres a Small minority of players that can find that in SBMM, unfortunately the Majority dont. I for one being a Dedicated PVP player understood that SBMM worked great in Building up Skill in Practice, to then Prepare for Trials. CBMM works great in what you described. If PVP kept the CBMM the way it was, you would have avoided
I’m kicking myself for taking matches too seriously for so long.
CBMM PVP, Dedicated players never took the Matches Seriously, We never used the K/D/A as a reflection of our Skill. The only people who did were the ones who took CBMM PVP too Seriously. And they thought, SBMM would fix that, ya for the 4th time it didnt, it just drove players away. Because every match is Serious with SBMM.
