The STOG TL;DR
It's your fault Mr and Ms customer. You are the problem....not Bungie.
This is a Bud Light moment. The optics of the STOG were just awful. Who in upper management read the draft before it was released? The STOG was amateur hour marketing. On Reddit Joe Blackburn thanked the Bungie staff who helped him write that disaster 24 hours before it was released. Because you know, just like creating content, writing poorly is hard to do.
Gambit is dead because of you the customer. Not that Bungie never really did anything to the game mode to improve it. Bungie easily could have just removed it from the game and explained why a year ago. But nope, they blamed resourcing decisions on low customer demand (playing gambit) as the deciding factor, not the fact that the lack of resources was THE reason for low player counts.
PVP is in the same boat as Gambit. Bungie finally said the quite part out loud. PVP and Gambit doesn't make them money and that is driving resourcing decisions. However, they blame you, the customer.
Simply insane.
Edit.
Tl;dr part 2. Bungie: “Content creation is hard so don’t have expectations but keep buying our stuff.

1 RespuestaThe Netflix show runner for The Witcher is blaming the viewers for the low ratings and lower views in the 3rd season. Billy Eichner blamed movie goers for the box office failure “Bros” was. Hollywood has been doing that a lot lately. Maybe Bungie has picked up the trend?
-
1 RespuestaIts just like Aztecross said. Once Bungie got the bag from Playstation, they started throwing all of their efforts into Marathon. A game that, in truth, I hope fails and fails HARD. Bungie needs to remember who built them. The customers.

1 RespuestaWhat gets me is that they’re basically spinning a narrative that it’s a balancing act between making more pvp maps (i.e. content) for example, versus maintaining game stability, matchmaking and cheat detection - like the player base should be somehow grateful that they’re making the right choice. Newsflash, if your in house resources are so stretched that you have to neglect core gameplay modes for the sake of ensuring the game actually works for a LIVE SERVICE GAME, then just admit it’s game over. As blunt as it may be, the player base frankly will not and should not have to acknowledge, appreciate or even care about what it takes to keep the game stable, or to keep cheaters at bay. Asking the player base to appreciate this is like going to a restaurant and being thankful you didn’t leave with food poisoning.

There’s is a difference between blaming and acknowledging a reason for something.

16 RespuestasEditado por eeriearcade: 8/5/2023 6:49:37 AMThey’re not blaming customers — just explaining the reason for those decisions. Just the cold, hard facts of allocating resources.

4 RespuestasYou talk like someone that never dealt with customers. I worked in a lumber yard years ago, and the whole crew would get together a couple times a day and talk about stupid customers. It was the highlight of my day. Dude asking how much he could haul with busted leaf springs. Dude thinking that his pickup could haul whatever would fit. Me trying not to laugh after he demanded I put 1.5 tons of treated lumber in his half ton, and I did as he wanted.

That's literally the first rule you learn when you have that cashier position while in high school.

If Gambits continues to do poorly, I could see a time when they just delete it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the deleted PvP too, outside of Trials and IB. More resources put into the core game vs two side areas. I also couldn’t believe it, blaming the community and showing Bungie’s lack of resources management.

It’s funny how many peoples eyes have open after the SOTG myself included. Imagine putting less effort into work and wondering why your people are not happy lol

2 RespuestasSome of y'all deserve blame. Looking at you Josh!

People could just quit playing. It's a whole lot easier for the dissatisfied players to move on than it is for them to move Bungie's priorities. And that's the real issue isn't it? People stick around because they think if they yell loud enough and long enough Bungie will change?

Editado por Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 8/5/2023 7:43:28 PMI’ve worked in retail for far too long and I can assure you that the customer can be wrong and in those cases they should be blamed. It’s about accountability. This is not one of those cases though. Bungie chose to go back on what they said and just not make new ritual armor instead of saving face and just make better looking armor. They made an obviously average looking set and reskinned it multiple times. That’s on them. They chose to do that. If they didn’t want to commit to what they said about a yearly release, they shouldn’t have said it. I’m not saying it’s worth saving, but they should just admit that. They should admit that it was underused even as ornaments because they made an average looking set. Yet they framed it in a way that was far too defensive and almost like pointing fingers. Gambit is another story. Jus like above, they made it so they are responsible for its success. The question then becomes is it worth saving? This isn’t just making an armor set. It’s overhauling an entire game mode.

You think they care. Why should they? This community has no backbone.
-
No. Your title is wrong. Sure the SOTG was bad and yes Bungie worded some stuff very terribly. However anyone who thinks “The customer is always right” is ignorant by admission.

They're not wrong. As long as they can get customers to pay top dollar for their minimal effort crap they can feel justified in what they do. I do think they're in for a shock but I've thought that before and was wrong. I'm part of the problem. I've taken very long breaks and waited to buy DLC on sale - but I did keep coming back. A couple of years ago I decided to wait until the last DLC and then buy whatever I didn't have at discount. Sadly, they decided to squeeze in Lightfall between Witch Queen and Final Shape. I jumped back in but should have waited until Summer 2024 to buy it all for $25.

Bungie basically saying please shoot down boycott our next project if you want continued support for this game.
