Thoughts about Destiny 2 and the community as a whole

Where do I even start with this? Obviously since the release of Lightfall, the community outlook on the game has been tumultuous to say the least, and for good reason (for the most part). The campaign of Lightfall was a letdown, there's just really no way around it. And I'm not going to re-hash things that everyone has already said, so I'll leave it at that. Hopefully Bungie is receptive to the narrative feedback leading up to/following Final Shape. My biggest gripe with Destiny 2 isn't the devs, the servers, the gameplay loop, the seasonal content, or monetization (although there is a LOT to be said about monetization specifically). The thing I despise the most about this game is the community behind it. I've been playing since Beyond Light. Not a day 1 player by any means (although I played my fair share of Destiny 1), but I've been around long enough to learn the game fairly well. There's a reason so many people play this game, even though the most tumultuous periods of it's lifetime. It's fun! If the game weren't fun to play, it wouldn't be successful. But if you were to base your opinion of the game solely on Twitter/forum posts, you'd think that this game is something out of the depths of hell. First off, I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to make an excuse for/bat away certain shortcomings of the game. I think that the way the game is monetized is extremely predatory, specifically with season-to-season content (dungeon keys, battle pass, eververse, etc.). That being said, I have the disposable income at the moment to be able to play all the content in the game, so I pay for it. Many, many others have as well. And I've enjoyed a lot of it, and I haven't enjoyed parts of it, too. This brings me to the aforementioned gripes I have with this game's community. No matter what Bungie does to the game, no matter how good(or bad) a season or expansion's content is, people will complain. It's just how things work. Opinions should be voiced, but I'm not going to sit here and say that the complaints I see on a daily basis haven't been spewed by people during EVERY season ("There's just nothing to do anymore", "the game is too grindy", "this season is mid"). Throughout the entirety of Witch Queen, people complained about a lack of content, re-hashed content, and a general distaste for the game. And Witch Queen was a pretty decent expansion, all things considered. So now with Lightfall underperforming, you'd think there would be more complaints across the board, but from my experience, there really aren't. It's important to voice when you don't like something about the game, I'm not trying to deter that. My point is that it seems like we've had these same complaints on a seemingly endless loop for as long as I can remember, during Witch Queen and Lightfall. This does speak a little bit to the state of the game itself, but I honestly think it speaks more to this game's community. If you're someone that is constantly feeling like there's a lack of content or that you're just not liking what's being put out, then don't buy it anymore. Purchase the content season by season (again, not the greatest way to go about it financially which is unfortunate, but at the end of the day Bungie is out to make money, not to be chill with you). Or better yet, maybe just wait to buy anything at all until you do the proper research and determine if it's worth the money. But I don't think many people do that. And I don't think that trend is going to stop. Voting with your wallet only works if people actually stop playing/purchasing the game. Bungie doesn't care about the mass amount of twitter complaints every season that goes by, because everyone that's complaining about it has likely already purchased their battle pass/yearly expansion. TLDR: voicing your opinion is extremely important, but just be aware that your feedback probably won't change all that much if it's just "where's the content" or "this season is mid". Bungie has been making absolute stacks off the game and let's be honest: you've probably got the next season paid for anyways.
