Hello everyone, i'm sharing my opinion and love regarding swords. I'm talking about long time bugs and potentiel buffs needed for players to use them again.
PS : I'm NOT talking about swords with eager edge (because come on dudes... you're not using a sword at this point, you're using this perk only)
Me :
I'm a veteran player that play Destiny 2 from the beginning, with my ultimate and favorite combo of stronghold with titan swords because it's FUN. I'm using all kind of swords in PVE and PVP (and Gambit) (with almost 200k kills i think on all my swords combined)
My thoughts regarding swords right now :
They feel... satisfying but also... not quite where it feels for everyone. Swords are extremely useful in close combat with a lot of ammo and potential regarding DPS and add clear. BUT, they also feel kinda not on point since... when you use it, you're pretty garanteed to die without achieving anything special. For example in nightfall, EVERYTHING destroy you with no healing capabilities (except certain builds around it) because you're ALL THE TIME in combat and you have no time to take a break from people firing at you while having a resistance of a potato that cannot tank anything.
Same for PVP, who use a regular sword without eager edge in PVP ? No one, literally no one. Because you will die without being close to people (and a shotgun kill you good).
Do you use the block on the swords ? I do, there's nothing special about it, it's good and you should reconsider it. Except for one thing. Since there's a lot of flames around certain bosses (multiple attacks with low damage),depending on your guard efficiency, your sword energy will be affected. For example, blocking an attack reduce 5% of your guard at a certain guard efficiency level... But with flames, you take that damage almost 8 times per second ! Which means you'll loose 40% of your sword energy in 1 second ! Pretty (not) neat huh ? So your guard will be useless againt environment, bosses and all kinds of adds...
Bugs :
have you ever tried healing yourself with stronghold in PVP ? Welp... you can't... it's bugged. You can see clearly it heals you but in reality, it doesn't and here's the proof with an old clip of mine (FRENCH INCOMING) :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgNd2Ui1WUU&ab_channel=TheRonfred
Try hitting people in PVP in movement with swords feels extra strange... 1/3 of the time you will dash on the player but you'll "miss" because the player is moving vertically and swords don't know how to handle it. 1/3 of the other time, you will go behind your target and hit the bushes behind him. So swords are not rewarding at all because you'll mostly get 0 or 1 kill before dying. (kinda ironic with 6 ammos in PVP)
Have you noticed something when you hold a sword and how it replaces your melee energy ? Yup it's bugged too. When you get a boost of regeneration for your melee ability while holding a sword, it doesn't work. Try this : With solar titan, throw your hammer, switch to your sword, then pick it up... Yup it didn't give your hammer back. And it works the same with almost every melee energy regeration.
What should Bungie does ?
Welp... to be honest. Here's the changes i would have done :
- In PVE, when holding a sword, you take 20% or 30% less damage. So you can do a lot more and survive longer. It could be viable in endgame activities.
- In PVE/PVP, extend the hitbox of the sword vertically. It should rid off all the issues around not hitting targets and being more viable.
- In PVP, fix the stronghold healing bug where you can't heal yourself when you block attacks at the last moment.
- In PVE/PVP, Fix the melee energy regeneration boost from all sources while holding a sword.
- In PVE, guard efficiency should depend on the damage took by the player and not just any hit. So for example, a 5 damages flame hit should reduce your sword energy by 1% and a 100 damage hit reduce the energy by 20%.
And with that, it should be easier and more fun to use swords in any activities.
Bungie employees, if you're reading this. I thank you for the time you took reading this. I'm a sword master fan enjoyer of your game and i want to extend my joy for those beautiful weapons for everyone in this excellent community.
Farewell guardians, and rock on with your new mighty swords !

I use my crafted Other Half for many things these days. It has Enhanced Eager Edge and Enhanced Repulsor Brace. Basically I can dodge and get a quick two kills, the first one to drop an orb of power and Volatile Rounds (yes on a sword) and the second kill to give me Void overshield. If I use Strand I also get Woven Mail on the orb pickup as well for more survivability and to allow me to attack bosses while taking no damage.
-
Just gonna point out, Gyrfalcons with a Void Sword and Stylish Executioner is just Spectral Blades without popping super. Not trying to argue that they could use a little bit of a buff, but just pointing out the potential that they currently have

2 RespuestasHi as someone who uses an eager edge sword I also use it as a sword not just for the perk. Also I agree with you that swords need some sort of buff. But since that ain’t happening I would like to share with you the brilliance that is volatile on a sword.trust me it’s really good and if you have devour on you can really just get in there without as big of a risk.

4 RespuestasLove swords, but they need to be used so carefully as you said, sometimes the risk is way to big versus the benefits, same for glaives i think, I would not consider bows here as they are obviously a “different” sniper rifle and they work very well in drawbacks and advantages; but glaives and swords maybe need a buff or maybe are hard to master

1 RespuestaEditado por Verke0: 5/8/2023 12:26:03 PMDamage resistance while holding a sword would be amazing! My personal favorite PVE build is astrocyte verse with the lament. Sword blinking all day long! Quick in and out action while capable of traveling long distances fast. Biggest downside of this build is the survivability in endgame content. Devour and overshield is great and so is absolution, but in GMs even a small group of dregs can mess you up fast in that range. So basically i never use it, unless passive guard is in the artifact, which is a shame, because it hasnt been around for over a year.

I am an avid user of goldtusk and have been using the aerial light/heavy combo for years—I love using swords and try to find every chance to. It’s difficult to use it well in certain GMs but having overcharge is nice this season.

2 RespuestasHave you tried running an orb siphon and recuperation leg mod? Sword kills will drop orbs and then pick them up for heals. I like running incandescent throve cleaver, harmonic siphon, recuperation on solar titan. Can just slay adds and make sunspots and orbs for all the healing you need.

1 RespuestaBring back the d1 exotic swords would be nice as well as the strike exclusive sword from the taken king strike

2 RespuestasI really like these ideas. Swords have felt really same-y for a while despite us getting many solid options. For the damage resist, Bungie could even roll it into the reworked Lucent Blade Armor Mod if necessary I’d also look at potentially reducing the ammo consumption of Caster Frame sword charged heavy attacks. They cost too much and do too little damage to feel viable even with the added ease of use and range.
-
This^ my blademaster build before the mod changes was impeccable. Crown splinter Strongholds Lucent blade Striking light Really wish they would buff sword dps and add mods for sword users.
-
Easiest bump. I get the dislike for swords, glaives, and bows but regardless, they’re in the game to stay. Best to commit to their involvement and use in both endgame and casual content.
-
2 RespuestasFor the damage resistance when held I’d be sure to make it when they have ammo, so people can’t act as meat shields just by holding empty seords
-
Especially with machine guns back swords aren’t needed, they’re a liability. the only build I use a sword in at the moment is my stasis because of zephyr and cold steel perk synergizes moderately well with shadebinder (because you can have some varying degree of a passive defense) but 9 out of 10 times it’ll still get me killed.

1 RespuestaHow about looking directly at an enemy at perfect range, hitting light attack to do a 180 and swing in the exact opposite direction to the enemy.... I wish there was a stat tracker for how many hits were missed while looking directly at the enemy.
-
2 RespuestasI feel like with the difficulty change plus the fact the most bosses have a boss stomp, it makes then pointless since the risk vs reward just isn't there. A general 20% buff + passive 30% damage reduction in pve could make then viable without making then OP.

2 RespuestasLament is the only sword I acknowledge. The rest are garbage
