SBMM is just the idea from educational research called Zone of Proximal Development… ie people on average learn better incrementally than just getting ‘thrown in the deep end’ so to say. The basic idea is that if the task is TOO challenging, the learner disengages from the task and if it’s TOO simple then there is no challenge and the learner doesn’t improve in skill.
Bungie’s data they talked about last TWAB was basically saying there are too many matches where the skill range between players in a lobby is too high. Less experienced and skilled players aren’t learning and are disengaging because the challenge is too high.
NBA/NFL/MLB teams don’t play high school teams. THE SKILL/EXPERIENCE DIFFERENCE IS TOO HIGH.
I see a lot of skilled veteran PVP players saying that CBMM as it is now is ‘fair’ because everyone has the same available guns/subclasses/armor available. it’s not really because the new/less experienced players don’t have the experience and knowledge the veterans do… and won’t get that experience because they spend the whole match dead. The new/less skilled players don’t get a chance to engage and improve when they spend the whole match dead.
I see a lot of skilled veterans saying they should have a place where their experience is more casual… without realizing that less skilled/experienced players on the other side of their ‘casual’ match don’t have that if they are getting mercied/farmed/spawn killed etc.
Bottom Line… Closer games are the best games for keeping the most players engaged for the longest time and it’s in Bungie’s best interest to strive for environments that foster close games.

In US pro sports these teams don't play high school teams because they compete within a closed league environment. There is no promotion or demotion. Yet still there are teams that never make it to the play offs and teams that win the league on a regular basis. In European football pro teams on a regular basis face amateurs or semi pros in cups.

Yeah, don’t know about European football. I do know that in US, there has been talk about ‘all-star’ players from high schools in a state playing a college level team, college to Pro, etc. and the past and there isn’t much widespread interest because the competition level is too low. University teams play smaller college teams regularly and the games are not interesting or competitive.

Great response back, love it. We may not agree with all points but I'm always down for adult conversation on topics.

Yet you were demonstrating childish talking points in your OP. Interesting.
-
Sorry you think my talking points are childish - didn't mean for you to take it that way.

You're really not capable of having a civilised discussion about the pros and cons of sbmm. There's a reason why it was removed two years ago.
-
Stop it man, you're making too much sense. These are all facts, and yet a guy comes here to call US hypocrites. What a joker. Hilarious.

Sorry you feel that way, hope you have a great day!
