It is almost like flawless is only meant for the best players.

  • I've been flawless in D1, Trials of the Nine, and d2's Trials of Osiris. And gatekeeping any kind of content because the whole "best of the best" mentality or "lul get gud" (not saying your saying that one though) is toxic to any kind of activity and will shorten its longevity.

Assuming no mercy, half of players will be eliminated each of the 7 rounds. But the end, again, assuming no mercy, there is generally a .78% (1.5% with mercy I think) chance for you to win on any given card (100/2^7) all things being fair and equal. That's just a rough estimate though and not including the fluctuating skill base, player pool, skill level, map, loadouts, etc. Flawless is generally for the 1%. So, it is designed to be only obtained by the best of the best. The only way for a lower teir player to get flawless is if the population is greatly inflated to where that 1% includes them.

  • Card based? You mean win based? And if that was the case, I wouldn't had seen someone go flawless when I lost a match going for my 6th win on Wormhaven. Also, on top of that I would've played against an overwhelming number of flawless people when I ran my passage of confidence to flawless, which I didn't. Switching to loadouts, maps, skill gaps, etc.. Loadouts being different based on maps and how the opponents are geared is natural and fine, but being thrashed because matchmaking couldn't find a more competitive team isn't right. Competition breeds competition, but when one team is so overwhelmingly better, most people will get discouraged rather than the idea of getting better since we as humans tend to look at the negative of events. Skill based matchmaking fixes this, for the most part, since it places you with people around your skill which helps improve your overall ability to play. It also doesn't help that they were using a tech called jump cancelling to hit perfect in air chaperone headshots. We couldn't use fusions either since Cauldron is such a close map perfect for chaperone.

But you won't have people in their first game going against people going for their lighthouse run. Skill based matchmaking will have that happen. People on the lighthouse game vs first game.

  • Yeah, that is true, but as it stands now, we have no true skill between fireteams other than the roulette wheel. Having a compromise would be nice, even if queue times were longer. But then people would complain about long queue times at points. Can't please everyone. I do appreciate keeping this conversation civil and not devolving into "you bad", just thought I'd throw that in.

Someone like me, who is in the bottom 40% or so in PvP should really not be getting flawless (or close to it for that matter) unless I'm being carried. But skill based matchmaking will significantly increase my chances at going flawless (from a one in a million chance to a one in a hundred or so, still will take a while, but great increase).

  • Balance is always an issue with a live game, but you have to at least attempt the changes to see if it is more beneficial and healthy for an activity. I don't think the mode should be like "and you get a flawless", but having such strong opposition is just plain and simply unfair. Next weekend after the flawless pool gets enabled, even though we are on different consoles, I can play with you and try to get you flawless, if you want? May not be able to communicate, but still deserve a shot at flawless through perseverance. :)
