I wouldn’t say being at recommended level is “baby mode”. It’s more of an artificial difficulty instead of being difficult for any mechanical reason. Things can be challenging without being cheap. But yeah an option for difficulty and the removal of the light system would be the ideal way to do it. Bungie tends to crutch on the power level difference for difficulty.

We have power weapons that can delete a third of the bosses health in a couple of swings, while there is essentially no risk for doing so. Especially if you're a titan or warlock. Being at power cap for the campaign is for sure baby mode. People always suggest that making things take more shots to kill is "artificial difficulty". But I honestly don't know what they want out of a shooter game. Halo scaled difficulty like this as well, plus some stronger AI for the enemies. They still took more shots to kill, and they did more damage. That's not artificial. That's just harder because you can't make many mistakes, if any.

  • Anarchy and maybe Xenophage. Other than those 2 exotics there really isnt much else chunking their health at power level. Guillotine with the nerf is still alright but it's not melting like it was. 1K wasnt doing a whole lot either. I'm not talking about being at power cap, i'm talking about being at power. My first play through i was underleveled for the first boss and it was annoying more than difficult. Do a little damage then hide or run because he 2 shots you. After that i grinded a little to make sure i was on par and suddenly all notion of difficulty disappeared. This goes back to your comment on difficulty. Add a difficulty modifier then sure. Halo upped enemy health and damage. Power level removed all notion of even having an option. Either you stop and grind a little to stay on par and make it "normal" which ruins the pacing, you over level to make it "easy", or you intentionally go in unleveled or handicap yourself to make it "hard"

  • "We have power weapons that can delete a third of the bosses health in a couple of swings" HA! Tell that to my Titan, who unloaded a full heavy attack with the Falling Guillotine on a red bar dreg, and died when from it's melee.
