Solstice of Heroes: Good, Bad, or Meh?

TLDR: solstice of heroes is meh; not the best but not the worst. work on objectives that fit all playstyles and gosh darn it let me change that ugly gold! after four days of grinding, i finally got to tier 3 of the solstice armor set last night. this was my first solstice of heroes event, and obviously i ended up playing a lot of it. so is it really as bad as they say? first, the armor itself. it looks pretty cool. my only complaint is that on the hunter set the ugly dull-gold trim on the cape of the cloak won’t change color no matter what shader you put on it. it even changes on the hood but not the cape? what? i hope this is a bug that gets fixed soon, buuuut something tells me it isn’t. second, the objectives. i had no problem grinding out the sets, and for the most part it wasn’t frustrating. i did read on the forums where people were having trouble completing theirs cuz of adventures, so that’s definitely something bungie needs to look at. everything went smoothly and was doable for me UNTIL i got to tier 3. ah yes... there it was. the infamous objective where you need 7 trials wins. ahahaha! no. you couldn’t pay me to play trials. “git gud” me all you want, but i’m not doing it. i don’t want to! the other objectives are really not that bad, but trials? nope. it’s things like that in destiny that i’ve noticed a lot of. it seems bungie has a problem with player choice. in a game where you can choose your character and their subclass, loadout, etc... there’s surprisingly little care for different playstyles. it looks like bungie expects every player to master all game modes and enjoy them all too. some people are sweaty trials tryhards, some people are pve commoners, and some are both... but not everyone is. don’t punish people for playing the way they want. don’t lock people out of rewards because they don’t play that way. simple as that. and since i won’t be doing trials, the magnificent set is what i’ll be staying with. fine with me. it’s the same set just without white glows. the perfect stopping place. now i gotta decide if i want to grind some more for 6000 bright dust, or pay real money for the glow ornament set. both things i don’t really wanna do, but it’s either that or play trials! my bf is actually going to go for the final set... poor man. hope he doesn’t get put up against a full team of flawless guys or meets anyone toxic! and last, honestly, last years solstice armor was the BEST. it looks so BEAUTIFUL. i wish i had that one instead, but alas... i didn’t play then. i’m so sad i don’t get to have that one. rip me :( so is it good? bad? meh? i’d say the solstice of heroes event is.... meh. it’s no where near the best, but isn’t the worst they could’ve done. and at the end of the day... it’s just a game. trust me, nothing sucks more than seeing your favorite franchise not live up to your expectations, but we can’t control everything the game devs do. and they can’t please every single person. i’m not quitting the game in rage, or blindly praising everything bungie does. i am simply saying “meh, maybe next year” and moving on. i got my armor set, and that’s good enough for me. if you read all that and didn’t fall asleep... thank you!
remember to eat and drink some water sweaty trials players... take care of yourself!
