In Season of Dawn, I like many others farmed up a bunch of rolls of the Dawn weapons. I collected my 60+ stat roll armor from the season pass. I did the same thing last season. And this season I am doing the same thing(though admittedly much less enthusiastic about it).
So here is my question.
How does the power cap on my Dawn gear, have any, and I mean ANY benefit to the game or me as a player?
Right now, when I get a piece of gear that I like better, I swap it out for whatever I am using. I will occasionally go back to old gear if I want to test a roll, or if I just prefer the "feel" of something. Armor is more or less generic, so I just update my look as needed and swap out things for some different loadouts. I do this naturally as part of playing the game.
Can anyone explain to me, how the power cap enhances the game to the point where in any given season, as we move forward, my choices are limited? Like how does forcing me to retire my Patron of Lost Causes for say, the "new" Does not Compute(or whatever), mean anything?
How does that help with balance? How does it make the game more dynamic? I mean, if I wanted to use something else, I would. So how does forcing me to swap it out make the game better?
I would have used Gnawing Hunger this season regardless of it having a higher power cap. I never got the drop before, and I like it as much as any AR I have in my inventory. So what does it having a power cap do for me the player, or the game in general. It's no different than any other seasonal item.
Next season there will be some other AR, or HC, or whatever, and it will be dropping, so people will naturally use that.
So sun-setting does what for the game?
Limiting the loot pool, making things available for a certain amount of time? That is a great way to get people to use other things. I like not getting yet another Better Devils, or Tangled Web armor. That was one thing that sucked about the first two years. Drops were meaningless after a certain point.
How does this "fix" that?
Because this season. I don't care about any of the gear I get. No matter how "good" it is. I know that next season, i will get something else, that is on par, and as it stands, will have a higher power cap.
So why would I upgrade anything unless I simply had an abundance of materials?
That makes the whole system trivial. There is no investment in the choices I make, because ultimately, they will be made for me by RNG.
So my ultimate question:
What does this new system add to the game?
Thanks

3 RespuestasThe community asked for a reason to grind new kit and not keep using the old god rolls all the time. We got one.

Explanation is simple:
Bungie can not get you to farm for new stuff if your current stuff is already great
2 RespuestasThe new system adds grind to the game. It allows Bungie to effectively retire previous pinnacle weapons. It allows Bungie to effectively retire perks they deem to powerful or overused by not adding them to ‘new version’ gear. The new system isn’t created to add anything to the game for us, the people that play. It exists to allow Bungie to have additional control of the gear that we use. It should allow them a better opportunity to ‘balance’ the game without as many nerfs as outliers (unless they’re exotic) will be effectively cycled out after a year.

The only items that seem to actually be disappearing with sunsetting are pinnacle/ritual weapons and armor mods (eventually). Exotics aren't sunsetting. They are "reissuing" Legendary weapons with the same perks. We'll be able to transmog armor aesthetics we like into ornaments. It would be an unpopular choice, but I'd rather they just take the pinnacle/ritual weapons and armor mods they don't want us to use anymore away than what they are actually doing.
-
Nothing of course. The only thing it adds is more coins in Bungies pocket and maybe some more free disk space on your hdd/sdd.

1 RespuestaLong story short: They want to extend our playtime.

1 RespuestaEditado por Haunter: 7/13/2020 9:28:09 PM1. Some players (who accept the situation for what it is) now have thier playtime extended considerably going after rolls for guns they earned years ago 2. Bungie want the latest gear to be the only thing used without having to make them good on thier own - iow they can be lazier then ever with new gears perk pools or archtypes and if you dont like it too bad you have few other options Ultimately this change in no way benefits players. Just bungie

43 RespuestasSunsettingweapons is to deal with the dominance of pinnacle weapons in end game. Recluse, revoker, mountaintop, and Felwinter’s lie. These are all weapons that choke out all others. But you can’t signal out those weapons alone because it would be unfair but they need to be pushed out of end game for the health of the game. I do t know for sure about sunsetting armor, maybe seasonal mod slots because some mods are pretty powerful and may break future content possibilities.
-
there are glitches in the game, by removing armor weapons places events they can see if the glitches remain or if they went away. They'll reintroduce items places events and if the glitches reappear then they know what to fix. The only weapons I don't want sunsetted are the pinnacle ones for you had to spend some time getting them.
-
So sun-setting does what for the game?
Artificially increasing playtime while allowing Bungie to sell us the absolute bare minimum and thus immorally, shamelessly and lazily maximizing profits.
-
Just bungie's lame way to make you keep grinding for the same gear and pass it off as new content..

4 RespuestasEditado por draycole: 7/15/2020 4:25:19 PMNew perk comes out and is: "this weapon shoots thrall instead of bullets that aid you, they explode on defeat/timeout" This is unique, and cool. But there's no reason tk ever use that, even if it were on a legendary weapon, over the meta outlaw/rampage esque loadouts. Damage and reload perks reign Supreme in pve. Stability and range reigns Supreme in pvp. Having those kinds of items taking a backseat opens up the availability of more unique perks, that may not be as strong Like the thrall gun

The short answer: it doesn't, the long answer: this is bungies lazy solution to the balance problem they don't want to fix

Love your question and the way it was positioned. If also love to know if you ever get a legit answer. I wish I could give you an answer. I’ve read and considered every explanation for sunsetting, from Bungie or the community (that I could get my hands on) and... I just don’t buy it. The reasoning is dodgy and doesn’t really hold up to the slightest bit of challenge. It always boils down to Bungie problems (not player problems) whose fixes do nothing but add to an already large list of player problems. Maybe we’ll get a response from the studio that speaks to how poorly the forums have reacted to sunsetting. I keep hoping the TWAB this week will be it. But if they already gave me their best shot with the “A” explanation, I’m not going to buy the “B” explanation. Nor will I buy the next anything the sell.

5 RespuestasEditado por Althanash: 7/14/2020 12:20:30 PMThis new system had potential but Bungie aren't implementing it correctly and nor are they fuelling the creativity needed for it to work. I've gotten exhausted in arguments about sun setting but if you do keep playing the game. A few pointers. Don't grow attached to your gear anymore. Use it and make it viable sure. But be ready to scrap it. Don't use anything re issued unless you absolutely have to. They wanted sun setting implemented. Fine we have it. Don't buy into their re issue crap. Hold them accountable for their own cheap and lazy work. We won't get anything new / meaningful / creative if we allow them to keep handing re issues out.

10 RespuestasA good example of why weapons should be retired is because of the pinnacle problem. Mountain-top, a vert sought after and amazing weapon has been the top tier pick for pve since it came out. Any pve activity, and mountain top is probably the best option. Retiring older great weapons means they can make new great weapons. Or else we would be using mountain top for the next 3 years. This example is the same for many archetypes. Sun setting allows Bungie to continue making unique AND powerful weapons, but not make everything so powerful that it introduces power creep. If we kept up with the current system, Bungie has 2 options. 1.) Make unique and new weapons that ultimately aren’t as good as the older weapons. Thus nobody uses them as it isn’t optimal. 2.) They create weapons are more powerful than previous weapons. Which then would render the older weapons as useless and non-optimal. Eventually, we get to a point where the game gets too easy, and Bungie would have no choice but to astronomically inflate boss health, nerf abilities, and nerf weapons. With sunsetting we achieve the following. 1.) Older weapons can still be powerful in some activities, creating diverse loadouts and options depending on the activity. 2.) new weapons can be powerful in a unique way, and still be used by the community in end game activities. Then they eventually get sunset and we gain new loot that makes the game worth playing. 3.) gameplay doesn’t get stale so quick. Variety is the spice of the game industry. 4.) We achieve the benefits of the power creep method, without any of the drawbacks. No nerfs needed(unless drastic), no inflated boss health, and no artificial difficulty spikes(I’m looking at you reckoning bridge). 5.) We continue to have weapons to grind and attain. Game gets boring if there’s nothing to work for. An MMO is about grinding for loot. You grind for loot that will help you obtain more loot easier/quicker. If you already have the best loot, where’s the incentive to play? The main problem that is brought up is the incentive to play. People reason, “why play if it’s all going away eventually?”. Well, first of all, that’s a depressing mindset. Why live life if we die anyway? Why play video games if eventually they become outdated? The reason to play is because it’s fun. It’s fun to find new loot to chase. Hearing about a new weapon and grinding for it? Fun. Getting the weapon and abusing it? Fun. The problem is what comes after. There needs to be new and better loot to chase. Sunsetting allows there to always be new loot to chase. With sunsetting, the seasons structure, and the improved engine capabilities.... Destiny 2 is going to skyrocket is players. We can see Bungie improving their engine and trying new things. Live events, live trackers, disabling specific perks, special loot events, and more. With more clutter removed from the game(locations, missions, etc) these will only get more efficient. Bugs will be squashed easier and faster. Less moving parts means less can go wrong. In the next few years, I wouldn’t doubt that Destiny 2 could become one of the most popular MMO’s. Right there next to WoW. Now obviously mistakes can be made. Perhaps nothing will come of all these improvements. But I doubt that the coming of new subclasses, system/engine improvements, new amazing gear to chase, and a new location won’t bring more players. With some good reviews, proper marketing, no massive bugs, and some interesting exotics, people will start flooding into the game. Destiny 2 is finally becoming the MMO FPS Bungie has always tried to create.

Editado por More Power: 7/14/2020 7:59:45 PMSunsetting saved me a lot of money... I was "this" close (holding my thumb and index finger very close to one another) to paying some kid to get all of the pinnacle guns for me. I hated being outgunned by NF, LH, and Recluse - nearly to a point of buying them. Bungie is really missing out here. They beg for nickels and dimes at Eververse, when I'd have paid them hundreds for the best guns. Now that we've seen the stubbornness of Bungie, we know sunsetting will happen no matter how loudly any of us howl, which makes buying guns now a very bad investment. I hope everyone here knows I'm typing all this as I wink...

17 RespuestasIt allows Bungie to make new and powerful weapons without worrying about breaking the game, as they only exist for a year.

3 RespuestasEditado por BarretOblivion: 7/14/2020 7:18:43 AMYou actually participate in experimenting with new weapons? Cause right now you aren't. You have barely any drive to go for new weapons and instead want to stay in your safe space of loadout and never touch anything in the game that's new. You know... not participate in a loot baised game.
-
Your question assumes that there is a legitimate reason based on all of your points. Why are they doing it? To force you to keep grinding away, because that's what 80% of their "content" is. Period. They can't make enough content you'll play just for enjoyment, they can't or won't make content that is highly replayable, and they can't keep making gear that will replace your old gear because it's better or more interesting, aside from a handful of exotics and pinnacles each year. So grind and grind alone is all they can do to keep most playing.

103 RespuestasThe system allows to do a few things -stop possible powercreep by giving the strong weapons a year lifetime -allows bungie to make strong weapons without nerfing them constantly over the year -makes it where armor drops won’t become pointless after getting a god roll piece

2 RespuestasBasically there is a few things but in all honestly not much real benefit outside of cleaning out loot pools so it's less of a pain to get newer guns. 1. Forced loot incentive: there's the whole mess of "why bother going after yet another AR when you have a godroll of one or two already" without forcing a power creep that'd already be like sunsetting. Outside of crucible I don't get what the big deal would be if older activities got easier because of power creep. 2. Removing pinnacle weapons and certain other meta weapons from pinnacle activities. They don't want to single out these guns so instead they hit everything. 3. Basically inflate playtime by making people refarm the reissued guns. Personally I didn't care much about whether they sunset legendaries or not. This changed this season when I looked at what they did. Not bothering to change the perk pools for reissued random roll weapons and not allowing the ones people have to be brought up in exchange was a big mistake. Also I have no faith in bungie keeping up with weapon archetypes or damage types. Took them over a year to get two new elements for legendary linear fusions. This got hammered home when I looked at the current energy snipers you can farm that wont be sunset at the end of this season, all of them were rapid fire solar damage types.
-
It is just a means of making people use a different loadout . At least 80% of people havent switched their loadout once in a year depending on the activity. As proven by the first raidteams using midnight coup a lot even in the season 9 raid when it released. Midnight coup was a season 1 gun.
