1. Favorite game now: Outer Wilds Hauntingly beautiful. Dynamic environment that actively changes as time moves. Playable in digestible 22 minute chunks. Cool gravity mechanics. Fun space travel. Tragic story. Investigative gameplay that places the onus for the ending on the player connecting the threads instead of just going and pressing an “end game now” button. And that soundtrack made my writing mix before I left the starting area. Runners up: Destiny 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Dragon’s Dogma- but factoring how highly I value emotional impact from a game and story, it wasn’t close. 2. Favorite game: Life is Strange I played this game for the first time a year and a half ago and think about it at least once probably every day. The way every single piece of music both licensed and created for the game informs the story (listen to the lyrics. They are not subtle). The fine details in the world and character interactions are superb and allow the player an element of choice without changing the canonical reaction of the character through the journal. (you have your version of Max in your head, but the character doesn’t bend completely to your will and tells you her motivation through the journal. I love this) In this way, even though the player gets agency, the character is still written in only one way. And she is not a flawless hero. Making mistakes is something she does. So it all weaves seamlessly into the narrative. The best example is giving you a choice for the ending that, like every other major choice in the game, gives you an opportunity to screw up. But you don’t really see it that way as a player unless you pay close attention to the game and can see it tell you what the right choice is. LiS presents human characters and relationships unashamedly with human flaws. And the flaws are what make humans interesting. Runner up: Last of Us. Solid second place for me. Played it before LiS. Still love it. For a lot of similar reasons. Not the zombies or the action. In those ways it’s just a decent game. Even a subpar one in some respects. But the characters and how they grow or fail to grow through their journey. I like a good gut-punch. And it delivers that in spades. 3. Favorite childhood game: Probably FFVIII I sure played it a ton when I was a kid and was pretty obsessed with it. I loved the junction system, level scaling enemies, the art style, backgrounds, and character-centric story. It informed a lot of my relationship to storytelling. Playing through it again now, I still enjoy it. And call me crazy, but I miss rpgs without voice acting. Runners up: Mega Man X, Dark Cloud 2, Ocarina of Time. All for different reasons. MM was the first game I remember thrashing as a kid. DC I just played a bunch. OoT changed the way I looked at games as a medium. But none of that compared to the emotional reaction I had, even as a kid, from FFVIII. And as a writer, emotional reaction is my drug.

Last of Us. Easily the Last of Us. I beat the game in December of last year and i got around to beating the Left Behind DLC a few weeks ago. It's just so freaking good. I'm not sure, but The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker has always held a special placee in my heart for some reasons. Honorable mentions would be Smash Ultimate, Shovel Knight Density 2 (yes, Density 2, not Density 1), Dead Cells, Jotun, Bloodborne (even though i haven't finished it yet), and The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass, and Nintendo Land Another toughie, i'm gonna have to go with Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga because its the only reason i know anything about Star Wars at all, Lego Marvel because me and my little brother used to play tag in the open world, Super Smash bros. Brawl because me and my cousins would play that for HOURS whenever we went to their house, or Nintendo Land because Nintendo Land became our new Smash Bros when the Wii U came out.
1. What’s ur favorite game right now?
As in game I'm currently playing and enjoying the most? Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It's a fun, peaceful game that's kind of like a no-risk survival game. Possibly the highest quality game Nintendo has developed since the 2000s.
2. What’s ur favorite game of all time?
Easily Super Metroid. I only played it for the first time a few years ago but it completely changed the way I view the medium. It has excellent storytelling, gameplay and world design, all flawlessly intertwined, plus one of the best end sequences not just in gaming, but in all mediums. I honestly couldn't love that game more.
3. What’s ur favorite childhood game?
The original Ratchet and Clank on PS2. As a child, I just loved running around cool alien landscapes hitting things with a giant wrench. The true brilliance of the game wouldn't occur to me until years later, after playing Super Metroid and Dark Souls. R+C is actually an excellent blend of gameplay, story, character, music and UI (yes, even UI) in such a manner that is superior to everything people love about DS's storytelling (and also it predates DS by about a decade). It's a game about a dystopian, hyperbolic vision of capitalism, and everything from the environmental storytelling to the characters to the gameplay loop reflects that flawlessly.

Editado por CAD1420Z: 4/24/2020 9:41:37 AM1: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind 2: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1/2, Star Wars Battlefront 1/2 '04/'05 3: I'd like to say Morrowind here, but I was unfortunately an uncultured little shit back then and didn't like how it played. This prestigious honor goes to Star Wars Battlefront 2 '05. Watch those wrist rockets! Honorable mention to Runescape because that game was the shit back in the day.
Old School Runescape is pretty cool too. Modern Runescape/Runescape 3 is pretty... and that's about it. It went sharply downhill after they started copying WoW.
I felt like expanding upon my list somewhat. And it is seriously weird having to stipulate which versions of the battlefronts I'm talking about. Damnit EA.
