I took a week off of Destiny 2 to play Destiny 1
So I made my 7 year old son an account on my PS4 so he could play Need for Speed Payback. One day I accidentally logged into his account and why not, launched D1 since the disc is still inside.
I created a Titan and used a spark of light to boost level to 25... and that's when the fun began, not just because of the nostalgia, but yes also that.
Started on the very first mission and that's when the original passion for playing Destiny took over.
Along the way running campaign missions, I'm rewarded (again) with amazing cutscenes while flying to mission locations with dialogue between my guardian, ghost, Vanguard and NPC's from the iron temple
Edit: D1 tower had a P.A. playing in the background and the music player in the bar was a nice touch.
The missions are so much more interesting and meaningful IMO.
I'm referring to the first time we go the moon, the "we've woken the hive" moment, the story missions on Venus leading to the conversation with the stranger, the Lost to Light mission with the Black Spindle boss, the intro to the Dreadnaught missions, and all of the plague lands missions
Every mission, strike, pvp match ect has a progress summary and reward.
Level 40 and light level 382 now, plaguelands unlocked, Dreadnaught explored... Archons forge, Court of Oryx, that's the content I miss.
Update: Titan is now 391, I've gotten a dozen exotics, sleeper quest is done, awaiting ARMSDAY to receive. I've had at least a dozen blues decrypted into legendaries. I got 3 pieces of armor, 1weapon, and 6 ghost shells from Archons Forge
What went wrong?
Vanilla Destiny 2 started out okay, the story was interesting and the cutscenes were well done, then something happened. Was it the Activision split?
My team quit playing when it got dull... some stayed away, most are currently playing other games.
Destiny 2 definitely lost the appeal that D1 had. I really hope Bungie gets this figured out soon... time to drop the FOMO, time to reconsider expiring content and loot.
Edit: I hit 1025 on each character in D2 (1004 + 21 artifact)
Was planning on grinding to 1050 but what's the point? Grandmaster nightfall caps at 1025, I'm already there.
I will be back on this week to check out guardian games and grab the new exotic but I will definitely be continuing D1 when the event dies down.

7 RespuestasHave we really hit the point of Rose Tintedness where we honestly rate D1 Vanilla campaign above Destiny 2?! I played and enjoyed D1, have fond memories, but that vanilla campaign was... not good 😂

21 RespuestasIt’s funny how nostalgia can blind people so much. Back then it was all hate on the forums but suddenly when destiny 2 came out, Destiny 1 over night turned into a great game.

11 RespuestasTotally agree, having to defend your ghost in 80% of all campaign missions is way more exiting then destroying the allmighty in a very pretty designed map or driving around in tanks instead of driving to location A in a sparrow. Most of the people come back to Destiny 2 when the nostalgia worn off.

1 RespuestaWelcome back. D1 is the only good Destiny for me. I still log in regularly and run strikes and sometimes PvP just for fun. Use all my fave exotics like Necrochasm and others especially when it's Arc Burn week. I see new lower level characters all the time in the tower too. I assume most are existing players like yourself but I have seen a few legit new players it appears. Same thing happened to me with D2. Had my own clan and we ran D1 constantly. D2 comes out, we did run vanilla a lot but most of us (ESPECIALLY ME) HATED the dual primary bullshit, slow as molasses characters, etc, etc. But, we played anyway. Eventually everyone started fading. Once my pre paid for DLC life span was done with the end of Warmind and start of Forsaken I was out, haven't logged in since. I still troll the forums hoping to magically hear Destiny is getting back to being good again but sounds like, especially this "season" it's complete ass. What a shame. D1 though, D1 is still in my "games I play while drinking" rotation. It's just fun.

I would pay $60 for a Destiny 1 update

Hell yes, my dude. I just started a new character on D1 as well. Didn’t use the level boost though. Game is super fun. A lot more passion went into every aspect of the game. I did thoroughly enjoy D2’s intro where you’re climbing up the mountain. Nothing too noteworthy after that for me though.

5 RespuestasI played some D1 this week as well. I have a total of over 8000 hours into both of these games and the thing I kept going back to in D1 was that I didn’t have to hold on to my super. It recharges so fast. I have good gear from the raids and it was a totally different experience. Why can’t D2 just let us feel a little of that power again without hitting us with fake news about power creep???

I started back this weekend and noticed some of the graphics looks better then D2. It was nice playing with my Red death again and I didn't realize how much I missed D1. D2 needs to go back to having a couple DLC and Fall Exp pack formula. I believe it just worked better then the seasonal stuff. It was a pain during droughts but a blast when we did get new content. It would be awesome if Bungie would do a small DLC for D1 once a year or so just to keep it fresh.(not holding breath) but I wonder if it would be cheaper to create content for D1 then it is for D2?

1 RespuestaIn the off chance some people visiting this thread still play D1... Did they do something to remove VoG armour and such? Checked my vault and inventory on D1 today, armour gone, some weapons gone. Still have my New Monarchy chestplate but not other parts... 🤷♂️

It’s cheaper and quicker to crank out generic public events each season in order to justify updating the cash shop so frequently. It’s sad, but as long as people buy $15 emotes, it’s not going to stop.

Destiny 1 missions were go to this spot, scan something with Ghost, fight off enemies until ghost has finished scanning. I'm not saying that missions in the sequel got a lot better but when i look back on the way the missions were in D1 i do not miss it that much.

Anyone else get the vibe that bungie is an egirl and kellygreen is her simp. We get it you think bungie can do no wrong, your opinion, but that doesn’t give you the right to tell everyone else that their opinions are wrong. This game deserves the harsh criticism it’s getting and needs it if it is to ever get better. No one wants you to white knight for bungie, they can stand up for themselves.

Yeah I got my friends to buy destiny the collection on ebay for 10$ and we have been having such a good time and its great to see a small population still in it.

258 RespuestasNostalgia. You're comparing the experience of replaying THREE years of story content to that of playing grindable content that was only intended to be played for three months. You're also forgetting the months and months of content droughts and grinding to get particular loot drops that went along with that three years of content in D1. Forsaken was every bit as good as The Taken King....and Shadowkeep was arguably better than Rise of Iron.

1 RespuestaThe immersion is what's missing. The little details. It truly was a world within a world within a galaxy in the universe. Now it's like, this is the social space. This is the mission areas. This is PvP. Go play. The tower in D1 had music, a tannoy system where various NPC's would have various voice lines (anyone else remember cayde having a go at someone who stole his sparrow?) Anyone else remember soloing whatever mission and taking it slowly to look around and appreciate the Gameworld? I feel as though all that and more is what's missing from D2.
