Light level isn't everything. The same enemy at the same light level can have different number of hit points, varying levels of aggressiveness, mobility, accuracy and probably also weapon damage (though simply shooting more and more accurately is a large part of it). There's varying difficulty in different activities (plain old patrol probably being easiest) that isn't really advertised anywhere. Some missions are _substantially_ more difficult, typically the special ones associated with exotic quests. E.g. for some reason I have no trouble running 920 Ordeal Nightfalls, but if I load up a legacy Nightfall that's supposed to be 820, even regular psions kick my teeth in... Light level scaling comes ON TOP of that, and that maxes out at some point (100 levels above, or was it 50? They keep changing it). So basically a mission that is supposed to be super hard will be slightly easier with high light but still hard.

  • 50 levels below and 20 levels above but the benefits of being above are not as much as the penalties for being below - least that’s how it seems

  • I think they recently extended the downrange to 100 below before enemies become immune. Though even so the equation is NOT straightforward. If you try to use a weapon with substantially lower light you'll see it do poor damage despite your overall light being ok.

  • Think your right on the 100, although you’d be mad to attempt at that disadvantage - enemies sneeze and you die. And yeah the point around the lower level of weapons is a really important one - very noticeable if your running say a 920 Ordeal with overal power level of 950 but using say a 750 light primary - literally will take 2 mags to kill an enemy because the damage is linked to weapons level not overall level. This alone shows how they have failed to sort out level balancing
