Stop abandoning storylines

The stranger, Savathun/Oryx, siva, the dreaming city, and now shadowkeep have all had paused storylines. This game has so much potential with lore and the paused storylines. If this game had continuity and more connections between storylines, it would feel more like a narrative. Instead we skip around with stories that have nothing to do with each other. One person said “It feels like watching nothing but filler episodes all while anticipating the big background story arc. We want depth.” This is exactly how destiny is. The stories build up to nothing.

  • Read the lore. Lore fills in gaps or concludes most of the story line. We didnt get to play it but it was written out lol. Lazy developers bunghole. Wanna get paid for a broken game.

  • I dont understand this cause they havent abandoned any storylines and the connect between the stories is clear. People really need to read the lore more.

    • From some of the responses here from the "Loremasters" makes me laugh. I play a video game to be an actor in the story not an mere observer. If I wanted to read good sci-fi I sure as shit would not be going with Bungie's mediocre writing crew.

      • They are ending stories. The problem is nothing ends in a satisfying way. Nothing ever feels final. There is never a build up to anything in an exciting way. Then nothing ever changes in the world. There are just too many poorly told long duration stories going on at the same time. Then they are all separate and are told like it's the only active story at the moment. We get left with these sticky notes just stuck all over the game world. On weapons, in the new pants you found, on a dead guy. That try to connect the story. It's just terrible. Wish they would have just added a metroid prime type scan system that told you details about everything. Picking up a piece of armor having a lore tab and reading a long story with actual dialog back and forth between people is just dumb.

Except they aren't abandoning story lines. The Stranger was finished until the darkness arrived. I assume she is linked w/ our fight against the Darkness. Savathun has been building up. In no way has the story line been abandoned. Oryx had recent lore, possibly being resurrected. Siva also was never abandoned. Eramis I think is the name of the House of Devils Baronness probably bringing back the devil splicers. The Dreaming City is in a time loop, there is literally nothing we can do until Savathun makes her move there if she ever does. If you read the lore, you would know that. Shadowkeep continued the story line of the darkness quite significantly. We partially know what the darkness could be capable of. And we learned more than just about the darkness with shadowkeep. Literally everyone complaining about this stuff is being ignorant. And what sucks is you guys are the loudest voices. If you are going to complain about the story of the game how about looking into the lore and realizing that your complaints really are meaningless.

        • I personally don't mind the hopping around. I for one enjoy the large amount of variety and the concept of time off to revisit a story arc. Letting it progress in the background through the lore. It makes it feel less forced and far more natural. A. Stranger might get some love here shortly considering what we got in Warmind and the fact we now have had a direct encounter with a pyramid ship and we're messing with the Vex a ton. B. Crota was pretty much open and shut. Shadowkeep was Chapter 2 of the Moon story arc. C. Skolas was very much so wrapped up. All that came from that was more stuff with the Nine and so forth which has been and is continually expanded upon when it fits. D. The entire Taken King story arc has almost been wrapped up. We had Taken King which was Chapter 1, the April update which was Chapter 2 and then Forsaken which would be Chapter 3. We still have an obvious 4th Chapter and Im fine with that. Save it for a big DLC. Its a massive and complex story arc with easily a dozen of large moving parts. Give them to time to make it as good as they can make it. E. Rise of Iron was very much so open and closed and we can see this still in D2. The Cosmodrome is on quarantine now that we took care of the Siva threat and destroyed the replication complex. At the end of D1 we had broken the Fallen and they left. Now in D2 sure the House of Dusk has gone back and we have the whole thing with Mithrax that can be explored but that can wait a bit. As for the Siva arc there could be more but again I'd give that a back seat too for a while. Definitely not priority. F. Red War was finished. We won and took back the city, got our light, broke the Legion, and so forth. Very much closed especially considering how minimal the Red Legion has been until Season 9 and thats dealing with the Forest and Sundial. G. Curse of Osiris was semi completed but it seems like we're rounding it off here in entirety. We killed Panoptes and saved time. Stopped the Cabal from doing stuff, did the prophecies, and so forth. H. Warmind was semi completed as well but again it seems like we might be rounding it off next season. Now yes there's a lot that can be done with Rasputin in regards to well everything but I don't think Bungie wants to overuse Rasputin considering how they've treated him in both games. I. Forsaken is not done but I understand why. Like I said for Taken King this but a Chapter of the entire Taken War story arc. It changed the entire solar system. Its going to take time to wrap that up with the scale that this arc is on. Plus I highly doubt they'd want to spend several expansions in a row going on about the same exact thing. Players probably wouldn't like that either. J. Black Armory for the most part is done unless Bungie has something planned for Fallen syndicates. K. Joker's Wild was the first official Chapter in the Nine story arc, something thats been getting developed since D1. Give it time, they're a massive component in the entire foundation of Destiny and its apparent. Let Bungie work their magic with the Nine. As for the Drifter this is the one time I can agree they could deliver more for sure. L. Penumbra was the first official Chapter for Calus with the Y1 raids being build up. He seems like he's going to be a big deal in the near future with the main arc of the entire game. They're still building up other pieces for this so I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Calus or a catalyst for something involving him is missing from their plans right now. M. Shadowkeep like I said was the next Chapter in the Moon story arc. This time it had an even larger direct impact on the main overarching story. This was the first official pyramid ship encounter and just happened so take it easy. Its only been a few months. All in all Bungie's style of telling their stories while yes can be frustrating at times lends itself to a unique beauty many other games simply don't have. Bungie writes dynamically and really makes the world go through phases and changes in real time. They use the lore to continue supplementing everything. Lets be real. You can't fit everything on the screen in one DLC without overwhelming most players. Its better to give players time to process everything and move through the game then push the next bit out when it naturally fits.

I'm not defending BUNGiE when I say this: They lost Joe Staten. The lead author of Destiny's original universe. When they lost him, they lost their understanding of Destiny's everything. That's why it's all choppy. They're writing it as they go because they -blam!-ed up and pissed off the most integral members of the team.

            • Yep.. Gaurdian : We have to go to Mercury and we need to find Saint 14 ! Ghost/Bungie: But first you need to go to Mars, kill 1000 hive and collect 500 Hive essence. After that, go to the Crucible and kill 100 players with a fusion grenades. Then proceed to get 500 kills in Gambit with a primary Sidearm. After all that, Saint 14 comes to the tower and is pretty much just... " hey gaurdian, would you like fries with that ?" This is Bungie's ingame storytelling.

                • I actually enjoy dabbling into each storyline. There's a huge universe to expand on and completely understand not wanting to commit to ending a story arc without actually holding down loose ends. With that said, I'm still very upset over Osiris not being in perma radiance with sunsinger. That was the coolest lore tab ever.

                    • Considering Bungie’s main storyboard guy who did the halo universe and lore, spent years writing the story for destiny...........walked out the door with his work when Bungie caved to activision about the direction of destiny’s story. Sadly Bungie doesn’t have a capable team of monkeys to write or even finish a story in destiny.

                        • The lack of a cohesive narrative is due to the game being largely comprised of cut content.

                          • There are a lot of things that need answered. I always said Vanilla D1 laid the ground work for a lot of stories to be told. That has held up...kind of. But there's a lot going on in the universe. I'm not taking up for Bungie on that. Like, it's cool they TRIED putting so many elements in there, and it's a shame the depth isn't always played out. To your specific points...they stated a couple years ago the Stranger was basically finished, then in Warmind shoehorned in the fact she was a Bray. That was a very cheap cop out, but it is what it is. Oryx is dead. Rasputin is back awake and back to "protecting" but he'll either be a problem or warn us about the triangle ships. Those ships tie in to Savathun and the Darkness. Dreaming City is an offshoot of that. The lore goes deep in some places. And there's definitely more loose ends. But it seems like the story is starting to get streamlined, and given the way some things are tying together, I think we're finally on the way to getting closure on some things
