For instance, I am not a fan of electronic. I never have. I recognize the appeal of good electronic music, but it's just not for me. Me and a friend were talking about it and I was called close minded because I didn't like electronic music even though I have listened to it before and I went in with an open mind. So I figured this might be a good topic for a poll and maybe some cool discussion, so discuss below my friends

Nah, country music isn't a good genre.

Only if it is the music I like :-p

5 RespuestasOf course not... And when I say “I don’t like rap” and people go “yOoOOOo dUdE u sHoUlD lIstEn to _____ bRo it wIlL cHanGe uR lIfe bRo” pisses me off. Like jesus christ.

Nope. There are certain types of music that simply have no appeal to some people, and that's ok. The ones I find to be the weirdest are the ones who 'like' everything. I find that to be either a blatant lie, or just absolute ineptitude of brain dead decision making. If it sucks, it sucks.

It's not closed minded to not like certain genres, styles or even artists. It is closed minded, however, to never listen to anything outside of the genres and styles you already know you like, and/or to criticise a genre or style (and/or its fans) purely on the basis you don't like it.
-
No, being close minded is making no attempt to try new things. I love finding new indie artists, but I've found more bad or mediocre ones than great ones. It doesn't stop me from looking for more, because finding new and unique artists (or genres!) is a lot of fun.
-
No. I cant stand rap. But i can understand why people listen to it.
-
For your situation I'd have to say no. For many times I have loads of songs a good chance but yet some call me close minded after giving feedback from what I liked about and what I didn't like. And it was from a rap song as well.

1 RespuestaIf you give it a fair shake, then no. If you decide you don't like it before you ever hear it, then yes.
-
What Yule and Mel said.
-
I'm going to say no because its unreasonable to expect everyone to be totally objective all the time when it comes to music. And even people who do listen objectively will still have subjective preferences, its only natural.
-
No. You like what you like, even if a genre seems to be tainted (talking about the mumble rappers that give rap a bad name).
-
Why would it? Not enjoying something doesn't mean you actually hate it or can't respect it.

Editado por concreteninja85: 12/11/2019 11:29:04 PMDefinitely not, not liking a specific genre doesn't make you close minded. What makes you close minded is refusing to even give a genre a shot, or calling a whole genre bad just because you don't like what you've heard from it. I wouldn't say that all country music is bad just because I don't like what I've heard from that genre, that's stupid and ignorant. Another thing, I think a lot of people need to recognize that just because two songs happen to be in the same genre, doesn't mean that they're going to sound the same at all. There are tons of different subgenres for literally every genre. For example, a band like Cannibal Corpse sounds completely different from a band like Dayseeker. It's unfair to completely write off one band just because the other band that they don't like happens to be in the same overall genre.

Obviously no one is going to like every genre of music. Not liking particular styles or genres doesn’t make you closed minded. However not making any effort to listen to other styles does. Not making the effort to acknowledge or understand what it is that other people like about other styles does. Simply sticking with the same narrow style of music you’ve always listened to and never trying to discover new styles does make you closed minded (to music at least). Having said that there’s nothing inherently wrong with being musically closed minded. Some people just aren’t that interested in expanding their musical horizons. I do think they are doing themselves a disservice though by shutting themselves off from a lot of great music.
-
Simply not liking music doesn't mean your close minded on it's own. Speaking about a certain type of music as if you know all about it when you don't & forming your opinion around the worst that type of music has to offer does.

1 RespuestaNot liking is completely fine, it’s when you go out of your way to trash talk that genre. >_> Trash talking really does nothing. I don’t exactly trash talk rap, despite my... utter dislike for it. I mean, I respect the gems within it, but I don’t like it. Now rock is something more my taste. Specifically Bobston.
-
Nope, you might dislike certain music because you are closed minded but disliking certain music doesn't mean you are closed minded.
-
1 RespuestaWell I mean if you actually gave it a try and still didn’t enjoy it then fair, but saying you don’t like a genre of music based off of one song you probably didn’t listen to till the end is close minded.
