But people are perfectly happy to cling to their idea of "science" as if it's a religion and refuse to accept new information. And then pretend that because they cling to "science" (unlike the non believers) that they are not only "right" but "better" then them. Which sounds a lot like a religion but with extra steps.

Really I don’t like the word “atheist” as it’s got so much baggage and misunderstanding attached to it. It can mean you believe there is no god but it can also mean, as you say, you lack a belief in god. This is the difference between what is called soft atheism and hard atheism. People often want to label soft atheism as “agnosticism”. Fine - it’s not worth arguing about labels. Personally I don’t think the word atheism is all that helpful as is implies that it is it’s own belief system or something. When really it’s just not accepting someone else’s belief system. I prefer the term “non-believer” myself as it’s more precise.
