Trials is a broken game mode, and breaks the sandbox for pve when it’s in the game.
Iron Banner is a catch up mechanic for solo players who are locked out of end game activities that don’t offer matchmaking.

Interesting. I've never felt of it as much a catch up mechanic as more so a place to smash your head into the wall when you're under-leveled. Some of my least favourite experiences in Destiny have happened in Iron Banner. Often times I just haven't bothered with it. And when I do, it just isn't great. How do you feel Trials breaks the sandbox for PvE? Nothing specific came to my mind, so please share.

Because Trials players want the game Vanilla Destiny 2 was. The problem is that destroys the game that we need on the pve side. No loot incentives in a balanced sandbox. No power fantasy in a gun game.

That makes sense. But I think most Trials players don't want that. Almost unanimously people liked Trials of Osiris more than Trials of the Nine. In fact, I've never met anyone yet that liked it more in most aspects. I'd say less DDOSing and better connections was the main better part.

But was the issue with Trial if the Nine the 4v4 format or the sandbox?

Both I think. It played too slowly and was so primary focused and team shot focused. (Since those were double primary days). I did like it, but I liked both. I just liked that I could compete right away, not chasing after gear endlessly and never being able to actually compete due to my lack of gear or level. Same reason I like Iron Banner in year 1 because there weren't level advantages initially (even though I was max at that time). And for crucible I do like a more balanced game. It's nice to see them separating them in how they tweak things. I'm not asking them to make it balanced or truly competitive. I just want it less grindy so I can get to the content I want to play faster (or ever). If I want a competitive game I go to Halo and Gears. Destiny just isn't. It's kind of a joke in the crucible. Otherwise you get too frustrated by always having a handicap or beating others who have a handicap (gear and levels).

D2 vanilla ftw. No, I'm not a trials player.

Doesn’t matter. Vanilla D2 nearly destroyed the franchise the community hated it so much.... Oh and the people responsible for it no longer work at Bungie.

Actually, the pvp population was almost triple what it currently is back in vanilla. You actually had to be able to win a gunfight, not go against mindless invis shotty apes. In all honesty, the best thing for pvp would be to remove the hunter entirely from it. Warlocks and titans are essentially balanced, get rid of the 0 skill hunter players. Make them actually acquire some skill with a character, and put the weapons back in the slots they were in Vanilla.

Wow. Talk about selective memory.....
