Armour affinities are just too much.

As topic says, I think having affinities is great, if that armour were to give you a slightly higher defence against that affinity. But locking out mods based on it is stupid. Not only do we require high stat rolled armour but we need 3 sets of each, to ensure we can use the right mods for the right occassions. On top of that already hideous rng, you need to spend an obscene amount of upgrade materials maxing them out. And finally you need to consider what is gonna happen next season? Will there be new gear now and new your favourite set doesn't become an ornament for your current set. Now you needed to scrap that time and resource investment and start again. #ThisIsTooMuch #PleaseDontTieModsAffinities

  • Affinities should; 1) Reduce that element of damage 2) Increase, slightly, the damage YOU do with abilities/supers while havi g a subclass equiped that matches that affinity

    • I think it would be a good compromise to at least allow exotic armor to equip any mod, regardless of elemental affinity.

      • Easy solution: One extra mod slot for elemental affinity that costs nothing to swap. Problem solved.
IF the real reason for affinity was indeed a problem putting all available mods on one screen.
• Agreed. This goes for having to have 3 sets of exotic gear for everything also with nowhere to store it and 9 slots on the char itself to store 1 or 2 builds with mod varients. At the end of the day they are simply trying to create an infinite grind with as little design effort possible. Its plain to see those who make desicions like this don't actually play the game at an enthusiast level and because they "work" 60 hours a week on the game we are expected to play much also to stay relevant with the content on multiple chars in a 2.5 month season at the level of gear we had before this foolish switch. I'll still play but they are making too many changes too fast to be able to determine what is good and bad for the game.

A standard armour build for me would be high mobility, high recovery and high intellect. To cover all weapons types, I would need 3 complete sets of armour for the 3 affinities. Now add on the fact that the 4th slot is season dependent (If it even exists at all [year 1 armour]). So I want a set (or at least pieces of a set) for Forsaken mods (Taken), Black armoury mods (Fallen) and Opulence mods (Hive) and I need to cover all weapon choices to those sets. That's an extra 9 sets of armour + the 3 for this season. 12 sets of armour for a standard build. Then you want to think about making grenade builds and/or melee builds or speedrun builds etc etc? With literally no way of organising them as the vault is just a black hole of all of your stuff. This is build diversity?? Not to mention the cheap way they're backhandedly forcing us to move to armour 2.0 by making the stats of the armour I've spent 1500 hours+ of grinding so unbelievably low it's actually disgusting. God rolls turned trash. Armour 2.0 is not what was promised at all.

        • Im not even bothering with this system. I have a mix of y2 armors and y3. Especially for the 3 armement mods i own (taken/fallen/hive) Those 3 mods are better than any other mods the 2.0 system can offer. Ive been using the trash vangard pinnacle LMG with field prep and demolitionist in strikes...i never reloaded once with the right build. And my titan looks good too. I dont give a toss about their new system, the old was working fine they just had to allow us to put the mods we wanted where we want.

          • Armor 2.0 is complete garbage, the idea of switching mods in and out is nice. However Bungie’s approach has put so many stupid limitations on it that it’s simply a way to increase “grind” .

I'm OK with armor having an element on it. It's the fact that you can't use mods that don't have that element that I have the problem with. Instead of having it punish and limit our builds the elemental affinity needs to reward them. Translation, they need to make it so any mod can be used with any element, and when we use mods that match the elemental affinity it cuts the cost by 34% (That way it cuts for 1/3 but they don't have the endless .33.) for anything costing 3 or more. If it costs 1 then it would cut for 1, and if 1 then none. This way they can still have elemental affinity but we also get the larger build diversity and customization that armor 2.0 was advertised as. Everybody wins. The only material issue is they need to cut the cost of ascendant shards from 3 to 1 or make the bonus we get on them higher than legendaries. To charge more because it's exotic when we're there's already limitations against them (only being able to use 1 weapon and armor piece at a time) is redundant, even more so with the difficulty it takes to get both the gear and the shard. I also think that they need to add the undying slot to exotic armor as well. I mean not being able to use like Nightmare Banisher or Relay Defender simply because it's an exotic is ridiculous. It's suppose to be a better gear piece then legendary and again we already have the limitation of only being able to use one exotic weapon and armor piece.

When the player base collapses next, what will be the new excuse? Oh, we realize now armor 2.0 still needs improvement.

There's need to be a better way to aquire armor mods too. I've spend outrageus amounts of tokens , still no sniper scavenger. Apparently Bungie is just dead set on not letting me to snipe in crucible no matter what. I've put in over 100 hours since shadowkeep launched, so it's not the issue of not grinding hard enough, really regret dismantling my armor 1.0 at the start of the expansion. I bet I'm not the only one that still misses the key armor mods despite turning in thousands of tokens already.

                  • Imagine if we could equip mods on any affinity, but matched mods cost less. Oh wait, they saw us mention that, and somehow, the generalized mods that don't offer anywhere near the benefits of any Enhanced perk are supposed to be that Bungie where is your collective brain? like, no blame on Cozmo and Deej. That shenanigans is definitely something fed to them by another team.

Disclaimer: i am not a creeper, i just remember smith saying stuff like he wanted his 4 year old niece to understand destiny when D2 launched. I wonder if she still plays..?

                      • We should just be able to change affinity on demand by paying glimmer. Mods should never have been locked to affinity though. Dumb decision only to extend grinding

                        • Agreed. It’s so dumb that if I want to go from using a shotgun to a sniper I have to completely retool my whole build and destroy my stats just to switch around 2 perks. So pointless and dumb. Definitely not the “play your way” style they were trying to sell us on during that live stream. It’s completely dumb and utterly ridiculous. The level of RNG you have to have just to be able to use basic stuff is behind belief. There was nothing wrong with the old armor , guess they never heard of “it’s not broke don’t fix it”

                          • I agree. All of the stats and the elemental affinity list makes the armour too much to handle. Do they expect us to use spreadsheets in excel to calculate if a piece is worth keeping. And what's the point of having different base totals. And it sucks so hard that I have to wait for RNG to bless me with mods I HAVE ALREADY SPENT THE LAST TWO YEARS GRINDING FOR? it is so evident that they just try to make the game grindier. Grind is OK as long as you get rewarded for putting in your time. With rng in the mix, it's just pointless. You can grind for weeks and still dont get what you want. Or you can get it after 1 min. That just sucks.

                          • Bungie is Fail ! All the game needed and I suggested this years ago . An ArmourSmith ! A vendor/maker/fixer or armour in the game 2.0 would have been the perfect time to introduce this concept . A vendor that can change the affinity of any piece for a price of course , maybe a weekly rare item from Xur that you give to the ArmourSmith . Also the ability to shift stats on Armour I.e. take 2 out of mobility and add it to Your intellect , again for a price glimmer , materials etc etc .... also with a limit of how much you can shift maybe 5 total just to tweak it a little and bit , rather than farm 10 million materials on planet for that one piece you need . The thing Bungie doesn’t understand is players like me like having multiple sets . I have a Subby set . Titan with auto reload subby boots and 2 sub machine guns , so switching back and forth never have to reload . I have a Solar set using flame line grenades with Armentanium jacking up Disipline to boost grenade regen and rolling through strikes like a fire breathing dragon . The point is we like gathering multiple sets and not because we want to beat some demon god in a hard mode , but because we like to play in new interesting ways . There are so many guns and exotics to make crazy builds and looks , the grind kills the fun when you get that one awesome stat roll then realize Ah Man it’s void I wanted solar !!!!!
