Shadowkeep has a cool opening environment and a very cinematic plot reveal but I was noticing in the first few missions (and subsequent strikes, etc.) that all we do is run full tilt into these environments and never have a compelling reason to explore them.
I’m reading through the lore for The Last Days of Kraken Mare and it’s really making me hungry for an expansion that sits us at the door to an unknown environment and gives us a mission as simple as “go in here, with no guidance, at your own pace, and uncover this mystery, or discover this amazing thing”.
We’ve had environments that LOOKED like they would encourage this but mostly they’re big empty rooms and a lot of locked doors, with maybe a ghost shell or some other forgettable “hold X to scan” function. The Dungeon was a good start but it was also Taken which I personally detest for how monochromatic it is.
I think that would be amazing and we haven’t had anything like that in Destiny for a long time. It’s been simply “run as fast as you can to this place, kill things, then run to another place, repeat.
Anyone else agree? Disagree?

36 RespuestasThanks for the feedback. We do have another Dungeon coming up next. Let us know what it's like to explore that area. I'll give feedback to you would like more emphasis on discovery in the future.

I’d be happy if we could get rid of all the invisible walls/ceilings that are everywhere. Take 2 steps off the path now and you get a go back warning.
-
Yeah. I felt the same when I first tried to explore the Cosmodrome in Destiny 1. That was another environment with tons of exploration potential...
-
Destiny doesn’t seem to be primarily an exploration kind of game. It would be nice if we could be given the ability to turn hostile pve creatures off. Especially in Dreaming city. Some other games you may find of interest for your inner James Cook or James T Kirk would be No Mans Sky and Elite Dangerous.

No, but you can get a season where you get scammed. Actually; that’s every season.

3 RespuestasCan we get a season that doesn't have whiney babies crying

Honestly they should bring back the option to re do story missions or have them on the map forever to explore those certain areas.

6 RespuestasEditado por Hells Assailent: 10/25/2019 6:53:51 AMYou mean the concept they false advertised D1 with? "You see that mountain over there? You can go there!" -game launches and everyone dies to kill barrier before ever getting to the mountain-
-
this is what I wanted the whole game to be when d1 launched, and bungie tried to imply that was the case but failed once the game launched. destiny should have been basically an elder scrolls or fallout type game with the same mechanics that it has now, but open world exploration. have one game that you keep expanding like WOW, this would have been something to get behind and play for many years.

4 RespuestasAye, wish they'd remove a lot of the invisible walls and kill barriers too for the extreme explorers

5 RespuestasDreaming city was great for exploring. There were so many little things to uncover and mysteries to solve. It made it fun to play in that zone. I know there are a few things on the moon that are similar, but it seems that they didn't go as far as they did with Dreaming City which is a shame.

A short while ago I spent half a day looking for Ada's gravestone (it sounds a bit morbid when you write it down.) A tidbit from the lore stated her body was buried to the side of the door into the lab, after the procedure that made her an Exo. So I went to Niobe labs to try and find the original door. We go into a blasted out hole, not the front door (I believe.) Anyway, it seems a landslide has covered the front door and her grave, or I got my guesses completely wrong. I don't feel it was wasted effort, because I did enjoy digging around in the nooks and crannies (and getting killed a couple times for desertion.) I think I'm not the only one that just goes on random "excursions" around the game. I think Bungie really needs to push this in their games. Not just making the game for the chest-thumping, killstreak junkies.
-
Yeah, I'd love a major expansion where the sole focus is on exploring and "adventure" with ample quests and lots of lore/scannables/hidden secrets (that don't require jumping puzzles lol)
-
While I would like that, the rumours circulating next season being Rasputin centred more or less confirms my suspicion that we’re just gonna get EP on steroids
-
2 Respuestaswe can explore Tess's items in the cash shop in Season of Eververse, which has been going on for the past 5 or 6 seasons
-
Problem with that is that everyone isn’t gonna have the same attitude as you A lot will just get bored of looking around and go to Dattos or whoever’s guide

You mean like forsaken?

The story mission version of the Scarlet Keep strike was actually great in the sense that you could have a look around without having to run full tilt after your team mates. There wasn’t much to discover in terms of lore or secrets, but if bungie added story and location background elements to each strike area, its inhabitants (or the npc strike teams that came before you) and present that in a patrol mode of said strikes, you’d have a deeper story of that part of the open world, which could also add a little surprise here and there, like a shader, sparrow, ghost shell or other cosmetic and ofc lore entries. There is a narrative or story to each strike, but the npc commentary and chatter only touches the surface most of the time and it tends to become just background noice as you fight your way to the boss. I actually liked what they did with the moons lost sectors, the K1 first light stories. It had a cool narrative and tied that to local sites. The dreaming city and to some extend the tangled shore were pretty good for discovering little bits and pieces. I agree with the op, I would like to have more exploration content as well. The open world part of destiny is still it’s biggest draw for me, it makes the game world feel like an actual place and not just a level.

Too hard. Buy some silver to make yourself feel better

A lot of the "empty rooms and locked doors," we explore in Shadowkeep are directly tied to D1. They legit ripped D1 moon and put red things on everything. I so do agree with ur post tho- I like the "not knowing" part of Destiny- rn the mystery vanished after 2 weeks of grinding.

2 RespuestasNO! Now pay up for "cosmetics only". Bungo needs a new sugar daddy.
-
5 Respuestasummmm you can walk and explore anytime you want to. do't blame others for your actions in game.
-
Exploration used to be one of the big hooks for Destiny. The universe practically demands it - Lost Sectors had so much potential. It'd be great to see explorable worlds get an overhaul in size, feel more lived in, and have more depth/secrets in the next game. See those mountains over there?

10 RespuestasRemember when season 7 was meant to be this big season of secrets and puzzles and exploration according to their Vidoc.....
