Sorry Bungie, but you're losing me at the grind part

I look at people who claim they can't wait for pre-BC WoW to launch again because it will make "grind meaningful" again and I can't help but wonder what type of insanity does that sort of mindset fall into? We've all been there already...in our youth...when we had no aspirations in life, feeling as if raiding the same raid for the 20th time and finally getting THAT ring was an acomplishment in life, even though by that time we were doing the raid on robot mode and we were bored most of the time. So why the hell is Bungie adopting this mentality for Destiny? I look at quests like Lumia and Bad Ju Ju and I'm like "wtf seriously?". Hell the last Iron Banner was ridiculous enough but at least that's pretty doable as long as you play Iron Banner regularly. I'll keep playing Destiny because it has great lore, but if you expect me to give you any extra dime or time investment, I don't see myself doing it with the type of commitment required to get some of this gear. It's just silly, mindless grind the likes I've never seen even in pre-BC WoW.

  • I know what you mean. I enjoyed the grind in d1 but don’t care for it in d2. The loot is just not as rewarding and the content isn’t as engaging. People always claim that Forsaken was the best content that destiny has ever seen, but I got bored with it quickly. I beat it with my warlock and don’t feel the need or have the interest to beat it with my hunter. I don’t really see the point in playing after forsaken

  • Lol Lumina and JuJu were NOT a grind at all. Maybe get a Switch and Mario maker or something?...

    • Mindlessly grinding is stupid, chasing after rewards that aren’t a waste of time is fun. D1 didnt get it right and D2 hasn’t either, I vastly prefer D1 though.

      • First people -blam!- because vanilla D2 was to “casual”. Now people like you are -blam!- because there’s to much of a grind? The grind is and always will be what makes a Destiny so addicting and fun. Quit complaining and leave your entitlement to everything in the game at the door.

        • Grind is fun to certain people. It's game design that appeals to those who like it. Not everyone likes racing games so Forza should become a shooter, right? No. Don't like the games core fun factor, go play a game that aligns with what you like.

If the grind is worse in Shadowkeep as the rumors suggest, that may be it for me. I barely got one character to 750 and it was an unenjoyable slog to get there. I just don’t have the time to play Destiny that Bungie wants.

Yeah i guess getting lumina and bad juju in a day is a tough grind. I guess you just won’t complete any exotic quest then? Or get any of the armor from solstice of heroes? Oh how about all of the pinnacle weapons. In fact why don’t you just skip shadowkeep’s campaign when that comes out too because it might be to much of a grind. If you wanna know what a real grind is, go back to d1 and get yourself an exotic sword.

            • The moment bungie realized that there were people who will waste hours and hours on this game, that was when the game became doomed FOREVER.

            • Lumina and Bad Juju were the easiest quests since Forsaken launched. The idea behind a grind is to have a goal and chase it. Nothing new here. I've spent days grinding for a perfect version of many items in Borderlands 2 alone. Same with Diablo. Same with Destiny: TTK/Rise of Iron. I won't argue that some quests are shenanigans but grind has always been the king of replayability. Maybe Black Ops 2 is more your speed? Probably won't like the grind for Gold/Diamond skins.

            • Bungie said they want to innovate RPG/MMO but literally adopt the worst aspects of the worst implementation of grinding. It’s simple to be different. All our gear moves forward with some cost, some.. not empty your vault upgrade cost. If your doing a tribute hall it needs to be like Guild Wars showing your boss fight accomplishments and such. Not statues of common enemies. Where is the wall of exotics display? Secondly there needs to be new missions added every two weeks and one crucible map each month minimum. Oh most importantly realize we work for real not work in a game. We want to have fun not mundane tasks instead. Like story missions need to be front and center or good dialogue in a bounty chain. Or maybe our guardian actually talking?

Quests like Bad Juju and Lumina give you free exotics. When Forsaken came out, you got an easy quest and received the best hand cannon in the game at the time. There is little to no meaningful grind, either they give you a 4 hour quest for the best weapons in the game or they're completely random and don't require you to touch the endgame at all. The ONLY exceptions to this are raid exotics, pinnacles, and very few of the nightfall rewards. Almost everything is given to everyone, there's zero difference between a machine gun you get from the raid and a machine gun you get from a 10 minute Menagerie run.

              • The grind is great. Play the game - get stuff - work to build up. Instant Gratification - sorry little one, but Destiny is for Adults. Put in your time = get reward. oh, and #remove crucible. (short of that, remove any loss mechanic in crucible and it can stay around)

                • Destiny isn't really a grind. It's more like playing the lottery. A grind implies that you are working hard towards something. You can buy one lottery ticket and win a million dollars or you can buy a million lottery tickets and never win anything. That's Destiny in a nutshell. If you ever wonder why this community is so bent all the time, it's because you've got a million people playing the lottery and only a few ever winning.

                  • It's not a question about "youth" or not. Older players can still enjoy their share of grinding. I'm on the contrary happy that at least one game takes a step back from the instant gratification that modern games center around.

                  • I mean I'm not sure where this grind is... Truthfully everything is basically handed to you for a lot of the easy and quick activities and the game is incredibly friendly to the people who actually want to play the game. Now I know you're going to hate this too, but this game is going towards being an MMO, meaning the "grind" that we have right now is likely going to turn into an actual grind. For me as a player, that's perfect. I spend a good bit of time (usually 3 hours) each day playing Destiny 2 and in that time I can do a ton of stuff, but especially right now there isn't really enough, and in the end I find that I've knocked out nearly everything I have for the week in that period (on one character that is). I want the grind, I want to have to play more. I love this game and the community around it, and if something comes along that's going to make me think, "Hey, I gotta go get more of X today!" and I spend my 3 hours doing that, you bet I'll be enjoying it. Yes the grind won't be for everyone, but that's the direction this game is going.

                    • You have never seen a true grind. You want a grind? Go play FFXIV and grind out a stormblood relic weapon. THEN COME BACK AND TELL ME THIS IS A LONG GRIND. No, this is cake.

                      • Ummm bad juju wasn’t bad. I only play on weekends and got most of the exotic quests done. They aren’t really there for first day completions, just do them when you have nothing to do.

                      • Sigh. That's the point though, if you want this stuff you can grind for it. If you don't you can still play and enjoy this game. You don't have to go for everything.

                      • If you don't want to grind, don't grind. Nobody is forcing you to get everything the game has to offer. It's very open to whatever your playstyle.
