D3 will probably get cancelled once the player base drops to a point where the development investment is no longer profitable

The player base is incredibly high compared to any other game that released that year, like 10x the numbers

No it won't. The biggest income a game has is the initial purchase. D2's was enormous. D3's will be aswell because 98% of gamers are not reading forums/reddit.
