Yeah. I am a very new Airsofter, and the only gun I actually own is a entry level $40 H&K P30 Electric. So naturally, I made a cardboard Riot Shield out of some extra box’s, Metal Bars, and Duct Tape. It cost about a dollar to make.

Cool. The thing that has stopped me from trying to get into is the price. There are so many badass and pretty realistic guns out there, but they're pretty pricey. Lowest P90 I've seen is 100$.

Try finding friends that are into the game, and try borrowing some of the guns. They’ll probably let you lol. But yes, guns are very expensive. I’ve seen a “starter” package for $150 that came with a AR15, Face Mask, 5000 BB’s, and some CO2 canisters.
