RPG? No. Been playing those since Final Fantasy 1 on the NES as a kid. RPGs are among my favorite kinds of games.
MMO? Yes. Destiny was the first MMO type game for me.
However, I don't care about any other title and how they run things. I care about Destiny. As a Day 1, D1 player I know full well that, from the moment of it's inception, the Infusion system did not need four separate currencies to accomplish, nor did it need an extra empty grind to accomplish.
Hell, in Destiny 1 you could infuse one character class of armor into a completely different type of character class armor (warlock arms into titan arms, hunter legs into warlock legs, etc), and the system worked fine. The more restrictive version in Y1 of D2 also worked fine. It was only when "Forsaken" came along, and some streamers and no-lifers asked for "meaningful" Infusion did we get what we have now. Now it is not fine. Now it is a chore.
Cores in Infusion needs to go. They make nothing "meaningful" except the loss of leisure time I have to invest in the Spider/Vance farm to circumvent their shit economy.

Its not his fault you can't manage basic resources.

If you were a Day 1 D1 player, you would know infusion wasn’t even a thing until TTK. And when it first came out, it was overly expensive. It wasn’t until a bit into TTK that they made it basically priceless
If you were a Day 1 D1 player, you would know infusion wasn’t even a thing until TTK. And when it first came out, it was overly expensive. It wasn’t until a bit into TTK that they made it basically priceless
Oh yes, I know. Hence why I said "since it's inception" as opposed to "since the game started" or something like that. And I also remember when you didn't get the amount of light you infused into a lower item (like infusing a 300 piece of armor into a 250 piece might net 270. Rough paraphrase). But the system was improved over much player complaint. And yes, the cost IMPROVED over time. Now it's back to a more overly grindy incarnation again and players are upset over it again.

If you've experience in the genre, why are you troubled by the need for some arbitrary form of resource management? Tbh, Why should infusion require any resources at all?
-
Tbh, Why should infusion require any resources at all?
Frankly, Infusion should not cost much of anything. It's a base mechanic. It should really only cost glimmer and a couple shards at best.
-
But why should it even cost that?
-
Infusion is a means to an end, a way to let you keep all the rolls and armor you hunted for while you perfect your personal load outs and builds. I'd be 100% supportive of it being free, though I know this "slippery slope" argument is not what you're getting at. Here are the arguments for why there should be Cores in Infusion: 1) So Infusion could be "meaningful" (or impactful, or whatever other jerkoff buzzword you want to use). 2) So Johnny Casual can't infuse everything a point at a time. 3) Play more, you dumb kid casual scrub. Like I do. 4) ... If you have any reason other than what is listed here, I'd love to hear it. No one else has ever been able to advance an argument, other than the above, for why this was a positive change to the game.
-
Positive with an '*' because it actually wasn't The other currencies already have the "don't go crazy" mentality built in. Basic resource management would tell you that and not some jackass here trying to be your dad. Cores slap the year's worth of a grind that most of us had right out of our hands since not everyone stockpiles these things like crazy. Stockpiling them at all defeats the purpose of having them in infusion to begin with, it loses even more meaning the more you have.
If you've experience in the genre, why are you troubled by the need for some arbitrary form of resource management? Are you advocating for a system in which your progression is solely based on experience and not on the loot you acquire? Because arguments have been made for that (not by me). However, I know that you're just being sarcastic needlessly so such a suggestion might be too much for you. Arguing for MORE chores and meaningless padding is a "stupid argument" as far as I'm concerned. If you're advocating that, I've got nothing else to say to you.

Without it there is no game. Unless you like playing against the same mindless piss easy dregs again and again. Welcome to MMOs my friend. Anways. Its very easy to get core thankfully. Welcome to MMOs my friend.
Maybe I've got it all wrong, man. I'd own it if that were the case. I don't mind a grind at all; not for weapons or armor or weapon rolls or anything like that. I've grinded out just about every raid weapon, chase exotic and pinnacle weapon across both titles (including every Iron Banner but minus Trials/the regular crucible ones because I'm no PVP god by any stretch). Give me a quest or a hunt and I'm all in. I've pumped in my thousands of hours into this franchise just like many dedicated players, and I've killed my share of the thousands and thousands of piss easy mindless dregs (because this game is nothing if not repetitive). I have never minded the grind until Bungie stuck Cores in Infusion. Mainly because, to me, it is the barest and most naked representation of tedious padding I've ever seen in this franchise, and this is from the same game that once required you to farm Ascendant materials to unlock individual perks on your freaking guns.
Its very easy to get core thankfully
Easy? Sure it is. Anyone who says that getting cores is "hard" is doing something wrong. It's also boring, empty, meaningless, and not enriching to the gameplay experience whatsoever. For a game with a broken economy and multiple layers of RNG to already contend with, must we add this on top of everything else? That's the only point I'm trying to make here.

I just said it was easy to get cores? And... I am calm. This is a discussion about a video game. Believe me, this is nothing to get riled up about. If you can do better than the Spider/Vance material conversion, I'm all ears. My clan disbanded so I do not raid anymore, so breaking down those curated weapon drops are not viable for me.
