Destiny as a series had always had a currency, or other slog style requirement for leveling. Vanilla D1, legendaries could turn to blues, etc. They were legitimately rare. You also HAD to raid to get max level, the only gear that had max potential was raid great. You had to earn periods, by gaining xp with the gear on. On top of that, every perk had to be unlocked with a host of materials, ranging from character specific materials, planetary materials you had to collect yourself, and legendary mats that only dropped from endgame activities (just like enhancement cores, only worse), etc. Infusion wasn't a thing. Your old gear was always old gear. Eventually they gave pvp options for max gear, but they kept the material requirements the same. When Crota came, we got a new version of our endgame mats, another garbage but if the economy to tangle with. Same frigging item, new name. Masterwork cores, meet Enhancement cores. In HoW they tried to appease some of the player base by giving us another brand new, rare, endgame mat that could be used to bring older legendaries up to the current max. Much celebration was had, though there was grumbling over the rarity. In TTK, they threw everything in the trash. It was a breath of fresh air for some, and a slap in the face for others. Your hard earned great that your invested in was locked behind Y1 levels, no ifs ands or buts. Hardcore endgame players had to wear greens and blues like the rest of the community. They also finally gave us infusion, but it was pricey AND risky. You could try infusing something, and actually lose power level. If you lucked out, you'd get a point or two increase, even from much higher gear. I left the game at this point, so some of the details may be a little blurry. They finally caved and gave us 1:1 infusion. We could also infuse across different classes. They also gave us an insanely expensive way to buy the mats, if you just needed some in a pinch. We got Motes of light, to use pre-earned xp, to level new gear. Things weren't great, but headed in a good direction. Rambling and reminiscing aside, my point is, we've always struggled with economy, reward, and investment. They came close at the end of D1, but just like TTK, D2 can't out and threw everything in the trash, giving us a while new system. They have tried time and time again to get us to play the game they want us to, and eventually caved when our whining became too much. We as a community need to do one of two things. -Accept the economy and game for what it is. Adapt, overcome, and enjoy the good things that do exist. OR -Stop playing the game. This constant battle of wills is helping none of us, and as much as change has helped the game, it's also destroyed it. When the game was unbearable, I quit. If it's unbearable for you too, please do yourself and the game well, leave. Just like I did, you can come back later on and see if it's in a better place. Do not torture yourself playing something that only makes you angry, when ultimately, this does not matter. I don't like Enhancement cores. I'd like to see them gone. But, to me, it's not worth leaving for. Maybe it is for you. And that's ok.
