I've finally decided that I'm going to chime in here, since this was something that's been on my mind for so long, and it's nice to see the discussion is finally getting it's time to shine.
I believe that Masterwork Cores don't have a place in Infusion, and should instead maintain a key role in masterworking those weapons you want to bring into the end game.
Infusion to me is a process that brings the equipment that you enjoy all of the time up to your current light level, when I get a prime engram with another Prodigal chest piece with +5 above my current LL, I don't want to use it, I want to use my Iron Banner chest that is currently 15 light below. It's not a tool that needs to have such a major road block to prevent you from bringing your favourite set pieces up to par/
Masterworking your gear is the end game effort that MW cores should have a sole purpose in, and the amount that it requires to bring everything up to top tier, is in a good place. I believe masterworking equipment is the only thing I should be accumulating MW cores for, for when I finally get that god roll weapon that I want to keep on me at all times.
Let's talk in terms of investment and the power fantasy. I've invested my personal time for 12+ months in Destiny, I'm no longer a blueberry. I don't want to lose my power fantasy every time the max light goes up in another season, I want to keep being the same badass that I was when I hit max light 8ish months ago. Infusion lets me do that. By keeping MW cores in the infusion process, I have to go back to scrounging things together for 50 light, and my stuff goes into the vault for that time while I squirrel away.
Masterwork Cores don't make Infusion meaningful in its current state, it makes it a hindrance to the power fantasy at the moment. Making it easier to earn Cores doesn't fix that issue, it continues to hinder the fantasy.
Edit: I've realised that I've said Masterwork Cores instead of "Enhancement Cores".
Call a Dog a Cat, it doesn't make it a Cat.

Bungie, will you please hire this person and put them in charge of QoL changes? Thanks!
-
Blueberry just means "non fireteam member" because they appear as blue dots on your radar. Doesnt mean noob, even if it is often used in similar a condescending manner.
-
Ah... I thought it meant a person that runs off solo, straight at the other team in Crucible getting killed every ten seconds? Or someone who never captures control points.... Or someone who is still trying to collect 15 motes when you only need one to summon the Primeval..... I could go on, but you're right, it is just a colour on your radar, not the most frustrating individual ever.

Well said! Bungie: “We’re listening” Translation: “We know best, deal with it” I expect nothing to change. Borderlands 3 can’t get here fast enough, and it looks amazing!

So then USE THE IRON BANNER CHEST THAT IS 15 LIGHT BELOW! You can do EVERYTHING in the game right now aside from Tier 3 Reckoning at 650 light right now. You people are whining about having to grind to keep using the SAME gear in a LOOTER SHOOTER. They WANT you to invest time in order to keep using the same limited play set.

It doesn't matter if you don't need that power. And if you don't why even raise it? It's a progression system, the number just went up I want to reach that new number and I want my gear to reach that new number. Whether or not it needs too doesn't matter.
They WANT you to invest time in order to keep using the same limited play set.
They want but players don't want. Guess who's gonna win the fight?
