It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to post something that happened in a different game and then ask what the dev for -this- game is going to do, tbh, but that's not why I'm here. I'm gonna preface with saying I'm a woman irl. Y'all probably don't realize you do it but there is a helluva lot of casual hostile gendered language thrown around not just here on these forums, but ingame and everywhere. People trying to insult others by calling them p*ssies and stuff. That's just one example, a lot of other words are worse, lol. The insinuation is that 'being a woman, or having feminine traits, is bad.' Which sucks. And you reading this probably don't even actually think those things. But when you use that language you're perpetuating that subtle underculture of hating women. And the crappy thing is that the dudes that actually do hate women will hear y'all say that stuff and think you're on his side, and because y'all just validated his behaviour he continues on with his bull. The language thing is one problem in a really, really big pile of problems...but it's that same kind of casual unthinking hatred that gets thrown around in so many contexts that just wears on women. We hear it every day, even from dudes that are our friends and family, and it sucks. I'm not saying any of this bc I think bungie, specifically, has a huge sexist problem on their hands, just that however misplaced, I know where OP is coming from and I can understand the frustration. I just don't go on voice anymore in any online game. Not because it's common to hear 'HEH UR A GIRL???' the first time you speak or some 2005 XBL nonsense like that. But because if someone gets tilted in my direction in a setting where I have somehow inadvertently revealed my irl gender, it almost always devolves into invitations to use your mouth for something other than speaking, or even worse, -blam!- threats or something. Thankfully, D2 isn't a game where you're forced to communicate with randos, lol. But honestly...those of you who game with female friends on a regular basis...ask 'em how comfortable they would be talking in voice in an online game and I am pretty confident they'll have a story or two to tell. And that in itself is pretty telling, imo.

  • I know, yes. If you're not already familiar, you should do a search on 'internalized misogyny.' Women should always try to support other women, imo, but it's rare to see it happen.

Its a matter of masculine femininity being frowned on rather than femininity itself. It is not misogyny. Men and women are valued for different reasons in society. Most basically women valued typically for their attractivness and men for their physical strength or really simplistically; their power. Women do not posess the physical capability of men. This is scientific fact. It is for this reason, that the man, who is neither attractive nor powerful is then implied to be of no value when the man is called feminine. Not because femininity is "bad" but because a man who posses neither quality is of no value to society. This is not a question of misogyny in any aspect. It is more a matter of misandry and toxic masculinity than anything however men today have more means of power than simply their physical strength just as women also have more value than simply their beauty. Gender roles have largly been broken any anyone finding a term like "pussy" to truly be offensive is either stuck in a gender role themselves or a toxic feminist. I personally am very much a man of my nature, I am very physically strong and adhere to my gender role, because I am a man and people (Often women) RELY on me being a man. I am also very feminine but I dont get offended. Do I want to be a man? No. But thats life, Im not pretty and its what Ive got.

  • There is a lot to unpack in this post you've just made, my dude. I'm honestly not sure if you're trying to troll. If you aren't, I have to assume there is a whole lot of cognitive dissonance going on for you, and for the sake of the women in your life, I really hope you can find the strength of will to do some research on things like toxic masculinity. For what it's worth, I don't think you're trying to be a jerk, if you aren't trolling. This stuff is taught to us very young, and its engrained in us at a very deep level. It takes a long time to unlearn the gross behaviour society drills into us, myself included. All you can do is just start each day trying to be a better person than you were yesterday. I'm gonna bow out of the thread now. I'm not great at articulating myself and I'm worried I'm coming off as holier than thou (believe me when I say I don't think that and I apologize if I sound that way), but overall I just dont have the emotional energy to continue on with what feels like talking to a lot of angry walls. Take care, yall.

  • What exactly was it that I said that you have issues with? Calling someone a pussy is an issue of misandry not misogyny. I outlined this very well and explained why. Was it what I said about how society values men and women? That is not a personal belief of mine, its just a simple fact. Thats how the world is.
