Too Soon, Bill Maher
Bill Maher has said controversial, provocative things throughout his career.
It takes disrespecting Stan Lee and insulting everyone who are comic book fans in his blog to become a social pariah.
He miscalculated how beloved Mr. Lee was not just in the US but around the world. He always encouraged kids who wrote to him to do their best whether they wanted to be artists, writers or had dreams of becoming athletes or scientists. To them he was the enthusiastic, friendly, fun Uncle Stan.
Bill Maher didn't get it. It's as bad as telling Burl Ives fans that his singing sucked and to grow up and stop listening to children's music right after he died. Or bad mouthing Mr. Rogers in the same way.
I guess it was inevitable. Bill Maher always tried to be edgy and push the envelope. Sooner or later he'd find a sensitive spot.

When you're schtick is to get right up to the line....and not cross it? You will eventually cross it. Especially when you go after a cultural phenomenon that you don't "get". So you don't know where the line really is. ...and he seems to not realize that people loved Stan Lee and Marvel super-heroes not because they failed to grow up. But because they DID grown up...and he helped to provide treasured childhood memories. He went after someone who will eventually go down in history alongside the likes of Walt Disney, in terms of his cultural influence. .

1 RespuestaBecause of guys like him and other polarized media sources I stopped watching news and some other major channels. Almost everything is a controversy, we all know mass media lives by the phrase “if it bleeds it leads” but nowadays they took on whole different level. I am getting off-topic here, sorry. As for Bill Maher, pushing an envelope and being a douchebag are two different things!!! By criticizing Stan Lee, his comic books, and fans/readers, Maher clearly demonstrated how uneducated and clearly dumb he is! Comic books are often considered, by people much smarter than Maher, as a form of modern art and cultural phenomenon; in this case a lot of Stan Lee’s characters and books reflected very serious societal issues such as racism for example.

I had not clue who Bill Maher was untill a few days ago so if I had to guess by looking him up, the guy just lives off controversy and uses it to keep his name in the loop. In that case whelp, he did it. Can't say I like the guy but it worked.

Literally who? If you give people like him any of your time, that's on you. People like him, Chelsea Handler, multitudes of other politically charged trollsters who let's face - Without pissing people off, no one would know their names. For my part on not allowing them a second of my time, am doing my part to end their reign of stupidity. It's everyone else who you can blame for allowing these trash personalities to be a thing.
