Perfect Fifth Polaris Lance Catalyst Not Giving Credit
One of the objectives to upgrade the Polaris Lance catalyst is getting 50 kills with the “Perfect Fifth” perk. The perfect fifth round causes a solar explosion, as well as an extremely brief burn damage over time that’s maybe 1-1.5 seconds. The problem is, the only time credit is counted is if they die from the very brief burn damage. Kills from the explosion should also count as that is clearly part of the perfect fifth perk. This has been a known issue for some time and I have yet to see it addressed by anyone at Bungie. My friend and I spent hours together the other day doing the quest from the very beginning all the way to getting the weapon AND the catalyst, only to be at 4/50 after killing hordes of enemies with the explosion effect for over an hour. It was extremely frustrating for both of us. Please fix this to work as the tooltip says it should. I really want to enjoy the weapon and upgrade its catalyst but with it bugged it just makes me not even want to use something that I invested hours and hours into only being disappointed by.
Edited to add: The horrid icing on the cake is that the explosion damage (not from the fifth bullet but from the explosion it causes) kills the mobs, giving 0 credit, or if you do manage to not kill them with the explosion, but burn them, the burn is literally so short, it leaves them alive, so you still don’t get credit because it’s almost impossible to kill them with the burn.

I honestly agree, and with the 10-15% damage you do is given back to enemies with HP. You just end up doing no absolute damage to the enemies unless they are like 2 health. They did add back the burn damage so now the catalyst is at least not impossible. Recommendation, Do the Leviathan raid and use the ax symbol by the stairs and fight the infinite waves of enemies. Then shoot the Cabal Legionaries in the head and shoot the Phanlanx shield in the critical hit spot. It will break the shield and hit the Phanlanx in the head once then body shot twice. Get some Perfect Fifth shots and shoot the Phanlanx center. Don't shoot the Phanlanx itself, only shoot the shield. Breaking the shield with Perfect Fifth will do a little bit of burn damage to the Phanlanx and no bullet damage. This is a easy, but slow way to do the Polaris Lance catalyst. In conclusion, Bungie, buff the burn damage on the Polaris Lance. Its stupidly low and underpowered when it comes to burning any target.

3 RespuestasI went to the first lost sector on Titan and shot the Knights and Boss 4 times and then body shot a Acolyte with the perfect 5th. Burn damage kills them after the explosion as long as they are full health and one of those exploding canisters doesn't kill them. Got about 10 per run.

1 RespuestaAs of at least the latest update (Festival of the Lost), Polaris Lance doesn't burn enemies at all anymore. Unfortunately, the requirements for the catalyst mean this is a huge problem for those who had not yet completed it before as it is now completely impossible. Bungie, I shake my head.

I had over 2000 kills with Polaris b4 finally completing catalyst. It was way less painful than the 4,400 kills I had by time stupid cosmology kills were completed on the graviton lance, but yes, my explosive kills were stuck at 4 for a while too.

My experience after testing myself was that the burn did NOT give me credit, only the explosion specifically. Which is why I thought so many should have counted, but apparently they died right after the explosion via the burn. I used to go to Mars (Futurescape) and crit the 2 psions that spawn on their own in the back, then move to the rooftop where 2 psions and a legionary spawn - crit those 2 psions and then crit the legionary. At the time, the crit bullet would half-damage him and the explosion would kill him, giving me credit for one. These values may have changed since Forsaken launched, so I don't know for sure. In order to get it, I had to run the gun all the time in PvE and just use it like I'd use it normally. After several months I was able to finish the catalyst...

Shoot the ground near the enemy with the 5th shot it works better that way.

I did mine on the harpies in the lost sector on Mercury. Just wing the harpies and the burn damage should end them. Took me many runs. Hope it works for you too.

Explosions don't count unfortunately. There is an easy farming method for this and you can fully level it up in about 30 minutes. The way you do it is load up the normal leviathan raid and go to the main center area where you are trying to open the doors. Here, the adds will continue to spawn the entire time. The trick is to get a fifth shot loaded, then shoot a full health legionary, or phalanx with a critical headshot from that fifth shot and he will burn to death every time. Best thing to do is use specific adds to get crits, gotta love those shield crits, and load that fifth shot, and then keep a few full health enemies nearby to burn with the headshot. Now one thing to consider is that I did this while the max level was still 385, so with higher levels you might kill them with one explosion shot and they won't burn to death. You would have to test it if you are say 500+. If so, just put lower level gear on to drop your level down. I soloed this and unlock the catalyst after about 30 minutes. I'm sure there are other places to farm this, but I found this one to be best for me. Here's one persons video showing how to do it. I just stayed in the back and kept picking them off instead of getting right up next to them. The key is to burn them to death. When you get the system rolling, sometimes you can burn two at once by putting a bullet into one that's already burning but needs some health taken off so it will burn out. 1 RespuestaI'm still on 7/50. I'm all for a challenge and not being spoonfed content, but this is ridiculous. I spent ages thinking it was the explosion that killed, not just the burn. Assumed until now it was bugged.

Go into the main part of the Leviathan raid and kill some cabal. Takes a while but it’s just enough health to make it work.

3 Respuestasit takes about an hour to complete. Goto the castellum of the leviathan raid.. trigger the waves... shoot 4 shots into the crit of a shield guy then the 5th shot into the head of a red bar, they will die from burn every time. since the waves are endless it is easy to do.

If you do as TuxyDoh suggested... it will get completed pretty fast. It is not a difficult task, honestly.

I hated doing this catalyst. You’re absolutely right it’s should definitely include the explosion and it definitely doesn’t. The wording of the catalyst makes it seem like the explosion should count, too.

Just tested in Leviathan, the old methods not working. Strangely at 530 power level myself, and this activity being 300, headshotting the red bar enemies with the 5th round is not killing them.
