I sincerely don't understand how people aren't able to level their light up?

I am light level 559 with no exploits or nothing. I work a 8:30-5:30 job m-f and can only play maybe 2 hours a day except on weekends, and on weekends I'm watching football and dabbling in destiny here and there. It's pretty easy to just accomplish all the milestones and powerful engram challenges. Now I do this with one of my friends, and it's only us 2 running all of these things, so maybe because there's 2 of us its easier? That being said, He's even a higher level than me because he got luckier drops. I don't understand how if you play approximately 10 hours a week, how you can still be under 520? I don't think that's bungie's problem. I feel like you just don't know what to do. Spider Bounties, dreaming city bounties, milestones, blind well and nightfall is really all you need to do. can't find someone to help you? LFG. I know people like complaining that there are too many "must have this level light", "must have this many clears", people in LFG's, but if you make your own post... people will join... So yeah, someone please enlighten me on why you can't level up after almost 4 weeks of gameplay.

  • Maybe its hard for me cause i like pvp and i want to have fun instead of spamming pve boring garabage and i get punished for it cause i cant get dust rock blues or mindbenders or the dreaming city shotgun so im stuck with year one shottys. Its dumb that pve usually has the good weapons for pvp.

  • Same here I have two 546 toons and it wasn't that hard to reach. The dreaming city powerful engram ones take about an hour or 2 tops all together depending how fast you get the blind well one out the way and the rest aren't that important as the powerful drops still are bugged and drop lower so to me they are a to do last priority usually on the day before the weekly reset. Still I see people who play everyday and are still lower than me 😂

  • I have ~60 hours in Forsaken and I'm 563, I still have yet to do about half the milestones this week. So yeah, it takes some time to level up, but I'm okay with it.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. You run with another person, which makes the activities that more accessible. I’ve been playing solo this whole time. I can’t even do the story quests in the Dreaming City because at 528 I get one or two-shotted. I was finally able to run the so-called Ascendant Challenge for the first time yesterday because a person finally accepted my play invite. The first hive knight one-shotted us, like butta. The game is unforgiving to solo players. That, coupled with the throttled progression system they implemented with the new expansion, makes for a very unpleasant experience. People criticize this, saying that Bungie ruined the game by listening to people like me, but the fact is that they always do this, and then promise to fix the game at a later date. It’s as if we are grinding, not for better gear, but for a better game. The quality of the game itself is subject to rng. My head hurts!

      • Just as everyone else has said it’s all down to luck and RnG... I played for two weeks straight when forsaken dropped putting in 8+ every day. And only got to 537 when the raid dropped. I know exactly how to level my light but if the drops ain’t giving me anything good what can I do!? Like if I complete 3 powerful engram activities and get 3 energy weapons (which happened) wtf can I do. People go on like they’re a genius because they levelled up real quick. No you just got lucky my man ain’t nothing special!

        • Sorry my rng decides to give me ''powerful'' gear that is either one number higher or two lower than my current piece. Got one today that was 554, and the current piece was 553.

I have university, I wake up at 5:30am and get back home at 6:45pm. I play 1-2hrs on the weekdays inconsistently. Sometimes I don't play. I have a Light Level of 534. I honestly dont care for Light Level. Its not a factor because the number is meaningless. People knocking other people are dumb.

            • they turned the game into a hand holding contest to truly weed out solos... bungie does not want anyone playing their game alone... aka solo bungie doesn't want me or my kind in their game and I certainly don't need to provide them anymore of my "solo" money... I have to listen and interact with people for a living 60+ hours a week, I don't want to have to hold someone hand and listen to their bs music or whatever.... I choose to play alone... and it's not my loss, it is in fact bungies loss...

              • EASY!!! RNGebus HATE ME. My Warlock has only gone up 1, yes ONE level (539->540) this week? How almost all my engrams where helmets or bows. Same issue happening right now on my Titan main (so far only 2 levels (actually 3 but thanks to my Hunter he got some nice weapons , he's new to Forsaken so still on the lower side, which brought my Titan up 1 level before I even started working on him today.) As for knowing what to do, that I do, and the proper order to do it too. Just REALLY bad luck on always getting the same armor pieces each week :( Oh and just for clarity this is not unique to Forsaken. I've this issue since moving up(?) to D2. Never had any such issues in D1.

                • Well there is a lot to do now so you get 1-2 points per drop but there are a lot more drops I would say you need 2-3 hours per day 1 if you are good with 1 character ranking up Which means a Saturday morning run

                  • 559 trying to break into the 560s before this week is up and all I have left to do is the nightfall. Some of it is just really bad luck with the rng and I think those people have a legitimate complaint. If I only gained one light level after doing all the milestones it would be tough to pick forsaken back up honestly. Others I think are just super casual and can only play a few days a week and are upset about the pacing due to what little time they can invest. Majority of people though I think can invest a decent amount of time into the game and that's why bungie felt comfortable setting it at this pace. And imo good on bungie the die hard fan should always come before the casual. Because they will still be playing and looking for things to do unlinke the casuals who will leave when red dead 2 and battlefield 5 or whatever the next big AAA game hits the shelves. Bungie is trying to fix the content problem here that was lacking in vanilla. The casual who wants to blow through this game to get to the next I have no sympathy for because the kind of game the dedicated fans want is this. Or at least closer to it lol.

                  • It’s simple really. Be 61 like me, and avoid crucible at all costs. That’s how I avoid increasing my light level.

                    • You hit the nail on two heads You run with a friend and he was lucky on drops. I play daily and only solo. All three of mine are low to mid 530's and I don't usually get all possible sources done mainly because of being solo and the amount of gap in several of the new activities. My luck is so-so and I think I'm a fair example of a lot of people as far as rate of power climb. Some of the higher level stuff can be done solo and at lower light but man it can eat up some play time. So yes it is very possible that people still are sub 530 at this point.

                    • Hitting the soft cap reduces your options I’m 548 now so only prime raid and powerful gear will help me once I hit 560 to 580 I lose more options and have to do stuff I don’t like. I really like crucible and gambit an occasional strike and going to planets and just killing things. Instead I’ll have to raid which I am good with once or twice but even then I need to be higher light. Now with the dungeon enemies have 580/590 power and can one shot me. I get it’s a grind but you as a player should be able to grind in actives you enjoy most. And not lose options as you progress.

                        • It boils down to RNG and what drops in those powerful and prime engrams in a given week. Sure - you can get to a higher power level if you are lucky to get those engrams spread across all of your gear, but all it takes is a few bad drops in the same category to put the brakes on making any progression. Heck - I went a whole week where my lowest level was my Kinetic Weapon, but the only weapons that I was getting from engrams were either mostly a Power Weapon (Edge Transit) or occasionally a Energy weapon. Neither of which helped me make any type of meaningful vertical progression, so my progression for the week came to a stand still. Having vertical progression that is based on a terrible RNG system is a Bungie problem and has been since Destiny (Forever 29). Just because you have had an easier time making progression doesn't mean that everyone else should be doing the same or they're doing it wrong.
