is light grinding fun for most of you?

i have been playing destiny since VOG and have gone through maxing out my level and then light only to have destiny release an update in which the light level goes up and the grind starts over. at this point it seems pointless to me. i no longer have the desire to regrind for light levels and gear to get to a point where the game plays the same as it currently does. this is not adding content but just a ploy to make me spend more time on a game that has been short on content since d1 and i dont enjoy it anymore. i really wish this game was still fun. do others feel this way or do you look forward to grind to light 600 in forsaken? • That moment in TTK, when you used a 3oC and finally a piece of exotic gear drops that you can use to level up, (99% of the time being a duplicate) the challenge of working hard to get to that goal and you could just keep going on and on with no reduction in drops. Now it's like after you did your milestone you can't get -blam!- all for the rest of the week. That's the kinda shit that made me quit Destiny, there was no challenge to reward ratio that was intended for solo players like myself that didn't want to do the raid 1000x for better gear. Hoping Anthem can learn from Destiny's mistakes.

  • I think the system is lame and I don't make it a big focus of mine. I did want to get high enough to be able to do EP and I got there so now I just don't really care. I really don't like how you have no difference being a higher level than lower and the level stuff is just there to level gate some activities. I really hate it in 140 LL Vanguard strikes which adds the strike bullet sponge mechanic on top of the regular scaling stuff. One positive is that it seems like once Forsaken hits that the grind should be a bit quicker with milestones resetting every 4 days yet I guess we'll see if that is the case. I do find having to basically solely rely on the milestone stuff to level up to be very stupid given you are at the whim of rng and Bungle's silly system of only letting you infuse items into the same type. I like D2 but at the same time, there are many things about this game that are just poorly designed. If improving my LL was my main goal in playing then I'd have moved on a while ago because of how crappy that system is implemented.

I enjoy progressive grinds, ones where I can see and feel my character getting stronger. Even if the bonus for getting stronger is small, as long as there's a way, I have the will. With D2 this is not the case. I don't feel any stronger at all now than I did 200 levels ago. I still do and take the same amount of damage and that lvl 3 dreg in the EDZ simply laughs when I tell him how much more "powerful" I am now than the first time we met. On top of there being no reason to get stronger, other than level gating content, there's no guaranteed method to get stronger either. Even the levelling system relies entirely on rng which means a player can go weeks without seeing any progression, and this is very often the case. It gets harder and harder for me to care about milestones when I know they are just going to give me boots every time, hell, the last time I did the Leviathan I got three pairs of raid boots. My brother quit D1 when he went three months without seeing any progression despite not being max level. True, he was a statistical anomaly, the odds of going that long with absolutely zero progression are extremely low, but with purely rng based progression there are going to be players who get fked. My brother hasnt come back to Destiny since he left after that three month dry streak and I doubt I'll make it to September without taking another leave of absence from the game. I have myself, and I have seen others post suggestions on how to fix the progression system but Bungie has never responded to them, and with D2 they have taken steps to further increase the grind through time gating while also decreasing the effects of over levelling.

  • In D1 somewhat, not in D2.

  • Add me to the list of people who hate the light progression changes that Bungie made. Between the caps, the fact that for non-raiders you have to be a slave to Milestones only, and the fact that there is absolutely nothing worthwhile ti grind for, the game is nothing more than a boring chore. In Destiny 1 I couldn't wait to play every day. In Destiny 2, I can barely be assed to touch it anymore. I fired up the Faction Rally the other day and am so burnt out on the boring bullshit that I played angry for a couple hours and turned it off. I finished FWC and DO, but I just freaking can't anymore.

Without random rolls, light level was about the only grind in D2 and it was not a fun grind. * These last few months have been the worst. It felt like Bungie attached concrete shoes to my guardians, dropped each guardian into a river, and told them to swim.

  • You have to grind for something. Power level increase was the sole reason I logged in each week. Now that 2 of my characters are 385, I don't feel like I have much reason to play those 2. The only reason I do is because the game has been stingy with 380 Scout Rifles, and because of things like EP armor.

  • I don't find the grind in D2 fun, but in D1 I'd grind all the time.

  • Power level in this game means nothing. Grinding for higher power level is just a waste of time imo. Also, to time gate your progression every week sucks bad. I can't think of another game that does that...can you?

    • My game went in cycles. I would go three weeks where I barely raised my light, then have a week where it went up pretty well. This last week, ended up being the fourth where I barely raised my light. Out of the three milestones I have done so far, three pairs of gauntlets, and I was only able to gain light with one of them. The other two were to low to infuse. Its getting where I just don't want to play at all anymore.

    • The way the LL works feels always like you grind to not suck, i.e. that you can do certain activities such as heroic strikes or EP. It never gets to a point where you feel powerful with the way enemy power is designed. I mean I get it, to a certain point Bungie doesn’t want previous NPCs to become totally trivial, but there should be something to communicate to the player that they achieved a certain LL. Perhaps proportionally increased precision damage on yellow bars or anything really. As for forsaken, I mostly look forward to the new locations, their secrets and the new guns, which by the looks of it are quite a few new models not just reskins.

I never had an issue grinding to level up in Destiny.. In D1 there was far more to do, and you were free to level however you wanted.. In D2 its a dull grind because the level is locked behind weekly milestones..

      • It was in D1, when I could actually progress and not get my light level capped each week.

      • I have been doing the activities and letting power level increase without really worrying about it. There are a lot of very tediou... um, I mean challenging tasks in D2. Oddly, bitching aside, I really do enjoy the faction rally stuff. Seeing how efficient I can be farming up rep.

      • I grind for other stuff - like completing the year 1 triumphs - and the light takes care of itself.

      • I personally find light grinding entertaining, so much variety in what gives me progress. The progression changes with Warmind also helped imo.

      • No. Grinding for max power is dumb. I'm fine with not getting there right away, but you shouldn't have to treat it like a job to get there. Extremely low drop rates, extremely slow power progression, ridiculous seasonal gear requirements. Bungie said they wanted to reinforce Destiny as a "hobby", however they went too far and made it a job instead. Unless they make adjustments in Forsaken so you don't have to play 4+ hours every day to remain relevant then this will be the end of my Destiny "hobby".

      • It's an arbitrary goal and beyond real end game is entirely pointless for most. I'm a firm believer Bungie should do something to take away from the power level chase as many focus on it, then don't bother with the activities they need it for. Max power in Destiny has never been essential for any activity.

      • Whats the point? No matter how high you go in light, there is an actual limit on how much damage you can do in patrol. Why bother maxing out at 400 light when 380 is the max amount of damage. Also why even bother trying to max out? When forsaken comes out, its only going to take 3-4 green engrams to surpass 400 light lol
