For those unhappy with D2 would you be much happier if we kept all our earned gear/items as well as locations from D1

I feel like the problem of feeling like nothing to do wouldn’t be so apparent if we had all the old planets and I feel like losing all my gear leaves me feeling like there’s no point to grinding for loot when it’s all likely going to just get thrown away

  • It is true that basically we did 4 years of grinding for basically nothing but at least they gave us some story/reason why we lost everything all though it has it's holes like why we did not keep the weapons that we had on us

  • Losing gear isn’t a problem. When you have good or better gear to replace it with. If they had done that, we wouldn’t of cared. It would of been worth it. As it is, it’s not worth it so that is why we want our old stuff back. Sentimentality aside for certain pieces. That said the very nature of Glimmer means there isn’t a reason the top likes gear from 1 shouldn’t come back. There were some egos in the designing of the game. Luke’s line of “one man shouldn’t make decisions the team should” explains in part what happened. You can’t get credit for something if you aren’t part of the decision making process.

  • There never should have been a "Destiny 2". Destiny 1 had a design that was a merger between MMORPG (very loosely...) and FPS. Like with most every MMORPG'ish game, the original should have been added to and updated/upgraded over time. Everything that is "Destiny 2" should have just been an expansion of D1. This -maybe- could have prevented the out-of-control dumpster fire that is the current state of D2.

  • No, I wanted gear/locations to be better or more unique than in D1 so I wouldn't want the old stuff.

  • The loot in D2 is trash. That's why players are unhappy and why they want their old gear back.

Had to say no due to the game and it’s lack off any direction, I also didn’t carry on the escapade of following trash content, although I understand the game got gud towards the end! What is the point in wanting something old because something new is crappy! If you date a new girl and she isn’t to your liking, do you immediately want your ex back or move on a see what the world has to offer! Treat Bungie like a woman, seeing as they’re so delicate and fare of skin, if she takes a dump on your chest because that’s what she “thinks” you wanted because you said you want it dirty, doesn’t mean she can get away with it and do it again, nah, twice is enough for Bungie to dump all over this game and I’m not buying into a 3rd iteration of “oh I thought because you said”, no thanks!

      • Maybe... Does that mean we keep the primary/special/heavy weapon slots? If so, then yes it'd have made me much happier.

        • I didn’t really care about loosing my gear at first , But getting it slowly drip fed back to me in a paid dlc , was pretty infuriating . Take telesto for starters . We paid for that gun when house of wolves dropped . Bungie takes it away and sells us to it again in curse of Osiris . That’s a pretty shitty practice . If they pull that shit in dlc 2. I wont even bother . I’m a suck r bought the season pass .... :(

        • I just don't understand why so many people become so attached to their loot from Destiny 1. I liked my old weapons too, but I don't want to use them for 3 years straight, only to use them for another few years. Sometime you just have to say goodbye to things you love. It happens with literally everything eventually. Even if you could use all of your old weapons, you would just be delaying the process. You're going to have to lose them sometime, so it might as well be after 3 years. That gives you plenty of time to have a blast with them. I would rather lose my old weapons and find new ones instead of using the same stuff over and over. That just gets boring after a while and new stuff is always more exciting.

          • Only reason they didn't allow it to transfer over, besides the fact they would have screwed the pooch on it and messed it up, they wanted new casuals who've never played to be on equal footing and not get pub stomped by D1 players in trials and crucible.

          • They should have used the pokemon gold/silver method. After red/blue/yellow, people had hundreds of hours into the game. Then they had to buy the new game. Unsurprisingly you had to get all the new characters and gear. But then amazingly after you beat the game it opened the world from r/b/y in the same game. And even better you could import all the stuff you had collected in the first game. Even in 2001 game freak had a better game plan than destiny 2. They had the same problem with gear not transferring between gbc and gba and they lost a lot of players for ruby and sapphire until they released the red/green remakes to reintroduce gen 1 pokemon. They never made that mistake again.

          • The Destiny 1 gear has two perks whereas Destiny 2 has one perk. Destiny 1 is also balanced to have a lower TTK. I would like to have Destiny 1 content available in Destiny 2 but if it is balanced like the rest of Destiny 2 then I still wouldn't play.

          • Dude, take any d1 character and put them against any d2 character. Who wins? Obviously d1 guardians were much faster, unique anf the gear was better. When you make everything suck, ppl dont like it. Its not that d1 stuff would make ppl happy, just bring new cool shit and make it just as powerful.

              • Yes considering how Bungie developers said that they wanted newcomers that didn't join the franchise at the beginning to be asking veteran players where they got all their cool stuff. The point of being able to keep older gear is the stories that go along with it. That's not to say that older gear should be superior to new gear. Let's face it though. The reason why we weren't allowed to carry our gear forward is because Bungie believed they couldn't create new enticing gear that would make us want to put our old weapons and armor down. Bungie decided to force change down our throats whether we liked it or not.

              • I like some stuff in D2 and some in D1 I like certain aspects of both games. intellect strength and discipline? Cool. Agility resilience recovery? Also cool. Never really liked the armor and stuff in the sub class tree kind of a hassle to change. If the ability perks we in the tree as opposed to armor that would be nicer. In short best if both worlds is what the next game should be. (if there is a next one after this Lovable dumpster fire of a game)

                • Gear wise no, you’re not encouraging people to use new things if you keep the old stuff relevant as they’ll just be attached to it. The issue is D2s gear isn’t interesting and uses so much copy and paste. I was hoping that gear would improve since they were moving to a static weapon setup, the thing with static weapons is you NEED variety to make it work, so if you lack in that variety you end up with D2 where people want weapon rolls back (which ultimately doesn’t fix the issue on why they attempted static weapons, it’s just a mask to cover up the core issue). Furthermore let’s say they did carry things over, how high of a light level would people want them to be? Should they be where they were just like in D1? At that point you’re stronger than most of the game. So what If they just dropped the weapons power back to zilch and you worked it’s way back up? Are people going to play around with the newer weapons or are they just going to rely on what they relied upon in D1? Again, how do you encourage the use of new things if you’re also keeping old things relevant? You either ditch the old weapons, or you limit their effectiveness to force players to try the new things at some point. Furthermore people keep referencing mmos (to which destiny ISNT!) but do you realize most typically (typically, as in most) have the present expansion gear being stronger than the previous expansion gear and vanilla gear? So are you really getting what you want had D2 tried this road instead? In the end the present D2 gear would be more focused over what D1 carries over, all to encourage the use of new weapons. I get the issue of “oh we grinded those guns for 3 years and they just threw that all away” but I don’t care. That was then, this is now. A game is pretty bland if I’m still using a fate bringer in year 6 as it shows a lack in weapon creativity on trying to get me to try other things. That will be the very issue of destiny if it keeps old gear relevant. As for planets: yes they should’ve kept them, is there no new events transpiring on Venus, mars, the moon, etc etc? Add the new planets and put most of the missions around them sure, I agree and it makes sense. However why not have a few missions on some of the worlds we exported in D1? (Ultimately I won’t be surprised to see an expansion be set on one of the worlds we explored In D1). Ultimately what bothers me about D2 isn’t the weapons or gear, not even the planets, the real issue is reverting back to vanilla D1. What happened to things like court of Oryx? The forge? The knight rituals? Patrol just pulled a 180 from where it was at In Y3 destiny. Are people supposed to just wait for Y3 again? -blam!- that I say. How about being able to pick strikes? If one got tired of doing the same strike over and over to which this “go fast” update was supposed to limit (as well as pvp maps reoccurring game after game) but didn’t, you could just change it yourself. Here’s where I would’ve made an improvement if I were in Bungie a shoes. In D1 you couldn’t actually change the modifiers, I would’ve added that in D2 as an improvement, instead of hoping the matching strike playlist gives variety, why not let the player do it themselves? How about player choice? D2 killed player choice. Shaders have to be used more sparingly (as in don’t use them unless you have a -blam!- ton of until you have your final gear planned out)? You can’t replay missions at your own will, instead you wait for ikora to have them. How about pvp? The quickplay playlist is fine and dandy, but why can’t players also pick what mode to play? Does anyone realize how big destinys player count can get? At launch (and the entirety of D1s life) you had the luxury player count to have variety on what you could pick and play. At this pont because of pop drop off it’s getting to where it’s to late now. I didn’t like D1 as well, but it does so much better than what D2 does, much of it that I’m dumbfounded Bungie would even toy around with when it comes to unnecessary changes.
