This week at Bungo summed up in a single sentence...

"This is everything we should've done during Destiny 2's development cycle." -BUNGiE, 2018 On the plus side, and more serious note, a lot of what I read is good stuff. On the other hand, its kind of sad that it took Bungo this long to come up with all that, and didn't think to incorporate any of it into Destiny 2 before launch and during this thing called "development" where you craft your game. Oh, well, maybe the third reboot, er second sequel, they'll figure out how to develop something and see it through. If not, I highly suggest outsourcing a lot of your development to Gearbox, as Borderlands is a superb shoot n' loot series that has evolved DLC to sequel and beyond.

Ever tried to get 800 people pulling in the same direction? In fact most of the difficulty of a Destiny raid is based upon the challenge of just trying to get SIX people acting in concert. Borderlands is a good game in part because its a known quantity in an established genre. So the 'rules" of what to do and what to expect are easily agreed on . But once Gearbox stepped outside of those safe confines....they made Battleborn. A game that pretty much everyone agrees was a FLOP. Blizzard got the "Hero shooter" formula right with Overwatch. Gearbox didn't. What we're seeing with Bungie has been what is (hopefully) the END of a running gun-battle WITHIN Bungie over what Destiny should be. They haven't been able to agree amongst themselves what this NEW kind of game should be. Joseph Staten apparently thought it should have been a linear, campaign/story driven game. Like Mass Effect. Nope. Others felt that it should be more like an MMO (vanilla D1). The community said Nope. Jon Weisznewski and others at Bungie felt that it should be more like a conventional shooter and have more of a PVP focus (Destiny 2)....and the community HOWLED "Hell No." So I think what we saw yesterday is that Bungie is finally coming to terms with the reality of the game they CREATED....and these various factions within the company are finally relenting and giving up the game they ENVISIONED Destiny to be, and wanted to make it. I think this faction that wanted to recreate Halo were the last----and most powerful----of the holdouts. But the intensity and the duration of the community outrage over Destiny trying to be re-branded into a reskinning of Halo, I think has finally forced their surrender. So now Chris Barrett....who seems to be the public face of the faction within Bungie that understands that this game is primarily a loot-based RPG...AND THAT THE COMMUNITY WANTS TO PLAY IT AS ONE....has finally cleared the decks to let this game FINALLY become what IT wants to be. What it has always wanted to be, but wasnt' being allowed to.
