I was going to put together a larger topic myself on my thoughts of what I have read earlier today, but I think this thread should suffice for getting my thoughts out there. First and foremost, I do not believe that this "update" comes with any kind of a surprise, if you were looking for something new that they already hadn't told us about and you thought today's blog was a direct result of this, you're mistaken, they posted a very similar list a month and a half ago on a weekly update, and this is why I'm exceptionally disappointed in Bungie, you guys can fool some people, but trust me, that's not going to work on me. What I saw today was just pure damage control at this point because the community is in an uproar on the terrible state this game has been left in. So, I'll drop a TL;DR quickly here for those looking for my quick feedback, abandon ship now and take a peek when the first major expansion (TTK Scale, Next September) comes out because the short term isn't going to improve period, but remain vocal on these forums about the issues that need to be resolved. Bungie isn't suffering from a lack of communication, but a lack of understanding, and until they fix this problem, nothing will improve. Yep, Bungie today showed that they are completely clueless as it pertains to how to fix the game in the long term. I posted yesterday on DeeJ's topic that this was a make or break point that needed to serve the long term of the game, and it failed to even address some of the short term problems, let alone completely ignoring the long term issues. It's almost as if the mass of voices demanding reversion of weapon loadouts, subclass nodes, and activity choice were completely brushed aside. To me, it's clear that Bungie still believes this title can one day become an e-sport, and are being completely ignorant to the fact that RPG games do not support this level of play due to statistical differences between player choice. I mean, come on, the forced balancing over the past three years alone is more than enough to demonstrate this, and any long-term gamer who has gone through multiple MMO/RPG titles will be able to tell you that balancing one is completely impossible. Now, the roles are flipped. All of D1's lifespan, the PvP players were complaining about lack of balance in the crucible, ignoring the fact that it served as a fun side activity and was the afterthought of the game, while most players cringed at the balance updates, the model was sustainable, and could have been improved vastly with some of the technological enhancements that D2 now offered. But this time, they switched the game to be dull and balanced, and the PvE players (Who by the way, far outnumber the PvP players) are complaining en-mass about the dullness of this title. No amount of minor adjustments to the token economy, or "quasi-random roll" weapons, or "armor ornaments" will address the underlying issues with this game, the issues that need to be fixed to make Destiny 2 a good game. Things like going back to the original weapon loadouts, unshackling the subclass nodes and offering a larger amount of player choice are key to fixing the underlying root of problems with this game, it's just NOT FUN anymore, the dullness of balance is the problem with Destiny 2. The reason we all loved Destiny 1 was because of those outliers, the names of weapons that will forever live in fame (or infamy) because of how they performed in situational perspectives, this is what is fundamental to a great RPG game, and this is what we were wanting to see today. Instead, Bungie pulled out one of their classic tricks used on every DLC release such far, a rehash, instead this time they rehased their own blog post from a few weeks back, providing more bits of information. Bungie, THIS is your problem. It's not a lack of communication, it's a lack of understanding. The players have spoken to you loud and clear, PvP balance is NOT what we want. We want to go back to the fun experience of the outliers, who gives a damn if someone gets OHK'd in PvP, it's a game! It's meant to be fun and exciting, not dull and lackluster. If you truly believe in the friendship element, then you need to make an experience that is truly memorable, something that we really want to come back and play over and over again. Take this to heart for a change, get out of PvP-land and go back to making games that we want to play. Then you'll start winning back your players.

  • You have actually encouraged me to sign into a forum I thought I never would again. I figured it out during the D2 Beta for myself. I have been around since Marathon and was a big Halo fan.......met my future wife playing Halo. D1 had a good community, not the same as Halo, but we had numerous friends, groups and clans we played with and were very social. What made both games fun was not just the game itself, but the community of friends. Social play in MM was a great place to have fun and relax with friends. Ranked was for more serious play. Forge had a great community. Back then, the campaign played little of a role for group replay due to it's nature. Destiny had more inviting replay value away from MM (Crucible) and raiding three characters multiple times a week to ensure all friends had the run completed and were taught the Sword in Crota, relic in Vault, etc. The strikes, weekly(old school) and NF plus patrol and bounties keep the variety and replay going....... then you had Crucible for another type of play. Somewhere along the way, like you stated, Bungie lost their ability to hear their player base and began to listen to themselves or other influences away from the players. I also personally believe that they were much better when paired with Microsoft. Since then most of the core team has left or been fired. They have been living on their famous past and popular core game mechanics developed during Halo days. (Personal Opinion) D1 had real issues that were worked through, but the core of the game was good. What you are playing now has no "core game play" that is solid enough to hold your interest very long and the future looks bleak. (That is what I have read from numerous posts everywhere.) You are right, they forgot us and listen to God knows what now. For those who hold onto to Bungie and their promises, good for you. My reality tells me D1 worked besides it getting in it's own way. They proved in D2 they had no idea what the base player, not their fans, wanted. Props for getting me back for a post.

  • You nailed it with not suffering from a lack of communication but a lack of understanding. I believe it is willful ignorance mind you. Bungie does not want to understand because it would require admittance of failure at the core game design level, the leadership responsible for D2 design decisions. I believe that the game can not be fixed by this group, that it will require a different thought process than those who created the problem. Until a few higher ups are removed which of course could happen if sales are poor, nothing substantive will change.

I agree with most of what you say. You make a lot of good points! However, to think that only PVE players are complaining about the dull and balanced content is to leave out the dull PVP experience as well. PVP players recognize the dull experience too. I don't know why you think PVP players have no opinion about this, because this directly affects how PVP performs. PVP players ARE frustrated about slow TTK, boring loadouts, less fun, etc. etc. JUST like you PVE players.

  • Please don't take my post as a pure bias against PvP players. I completely understand that both sides are frustrated right now and both have a good reason to be, the game is very dull and lackluster when compared to D1. The point I was reaching out towards is that 90%+ of the balance adjustments in D1, and the streamlined weapon and class systems which are now plaguing D2 are a direct result of PvP players complaining about balance in a game whose archetype is not built for balanced play. This is one of the reasons why there is such a high level of frustration among players like myself currently, we're literally living a repeat of the events of D1, except blown to new levels of low from Bungie. The thing that completely baffles me is why Bungie even listened to those complaints in the first place, anyone with any kind of MMO/RPG experience could tell you that what Bungie did between the two titles was a terrible decision. While my post does sound heavy on the anti-PvP side, I just want people to be more open minded to what they're truly complaining about, and to understand why the changes that were made between both titles have been nothing but detrimental to the overall player experience, that's all.

I agree with your post though--Bungie lacks understanding. Even in D1, though, I felt that PVP and PVE was fine. That's just my opinion. I felt powerful in PVE and I felt I could be powerful in PVP too based on my performance. Now, in D2, I am underwhelmed by my power level in PVE as it does literally nothing for me. In PVP, I have to hand-hold with teammates to feel powerful. It's stupid and it promotes only one play style. Those who play aggressive get punished even if you're good. The skill level is way too high for aggressive players who want to make individual plays.

  • True...!! Bungie need to stop destroying this game by PVP Balancing stupidities. In PVP there is always someone will complain. The loser will do it. If it balance...they will say "Sweaty" I buy this game for PVE...not PVP...so stop destroying PVE.

  • you are right. played from D1 and i can tell you the most fun i had was finding builds that were fun, like trowing 500 solar grenades with my warlock and using dragon's breath to set the room on fire. Now i can just choose between 2 watered down specs with no real playstyle to invent. Everything is pre-chewed by u (Bungie). YOU decide on how i must play, instead it should be that you give me a bunch of options and let ME choose how i play. I'm not a toddler, i'm 30 years old i can think for myself. Srry for the bad english.
