First impression - this is a PvP beta. One strike is all PvE players get to try.
I mean, what has more replay-ability: one strike, or one Crucible map.
English
-
Easily one Crucible map. But... there are two Crucible maps in the beta, one strike. PvP players are going to have a lot better understanding of how things come together than will PvE. Sure, we can argue it's only a load test, but... notice where the focus of that load testing is placed. Bungie clearly wants to know how their 4v4 is going to play more than anything else in this load test. To me, that's telling.
-
And there's a story mission. Basically every player gets an idea of how one mode works and that's it. I think it's fair.
And there's a story mission. Basically every player gets an idea of how one mode works and that's it. I think it's fair.
Like that's remotely enough to sample pve
-
Like to maps on incredibly different modes are enough to sample PvP.
-
If you want to look at it that way, almost. It's still two PvP maps that can be played over and over. The story mission can be played once per character, l acing players to repeat the same strike over and over. There are only so many times people are going to grind that one.
-
You've discovered the inherent difficult in creating PvE content. What are they supposed to do, have three strikes to keep people from getting bored?
-
No, of course not. A patrol or two wouldn't have hurt. I haven't "discovered" anything. I get how it's more cost effective to cater to PvP. I know why they do it.
-
They're catering jack shit. And aren't going to show off another quarter of the game.
-
They're catering jack shit. And aren't going to show off another quarter of the game.
If a patrol zone is another "quarter" of the game then you just accidentally admitted probably the most massive problem they have going for them.
-
If two patrols are truly a quarter of the game, the game is in trouble, wouldn't you say?
-
Four destinations. Unless they put up -blam!-huge walls to split off portions you're going to see a fourth.
Four destinations. Unless they put up -blam!-huge walls to split off portions you're going to see a fourth.
Lol wtf?? I guess you didn't play D1 because it's patrols were set up as zones and you couldn't see shit from one to the other.
-
If you just wanted one bubble, you could set up shop at the start of the strike. Plenty of mobs.
-
Hold on a sec. Earth in D1 is split into different zones. Can't say it can't be done. Anyway it's all a red herring. The whole weapons structure has clearly been redesigned for PvP purposes. Likewise supers, grenades, and abilities have been tailored to fit into the PvP world. Weapons are pretty bland and lifeless, and as a result the boss in the strike is just a mundane chore. The game will have a much easier to manage PvP component through streamlining, but the rest of the game so far is about as exciting as rice cakes. Dual primary PvE is going to wear thin fast. The story better include a riveting section about how Ghaul took all secondary weapons along with the light, otherwise it's just one more thing lost to make PvP better. Color it any way you like, but this load test is about PvP.

Even if it's a PVP oriented beta....it's still a beta/demo. I know betas aren't demos but that's what they've become. And you can't blame them for not giving as much away as the first Destiny. People were like "wait there's only 30 levels and I did a third of that in the beta. This time around they're suppose to have more story and I'm sure they want to keep it a secret to try to sell more copies.
