I think Trip mines need a massive overhaul of Bungie wants to make them effective traps. Here's what should happen:
1) Make the duration of the trip mine much longer (at least doubled)
2) Remove the blaring "HEY GUYS, DON'T COME OVER HERE!" light. Keep the red dot, maybe make it a little brighter.
3) Increase the damage to be a OHK for most guardians. Guardians with maximum armor survive with a sliver of health.
4) Increase the arm time, similar to the charge time of a fusion grenade, for balance.
These changes will make the trip mine actually effective and a force to be reckoned with.

And make the white "hey I'm on your side" light brighter. Too many people stop and shoot at them.

I'm sorry but that's op as hell. With that set up u are almost guaranteed a kill with every grenade you place (especially on small maps and game modes with objectives)
