Here's an idea, Gathering of the Broken (Fallen on Earth) Gathering of the Consuming (Hive on Moon) Gathering of the Future (Vex on Venus) Gathering of the Steel Gods (Cabal on Mars) Once a month, for a week. Light level 300 guardians and above can chose whenever to join the gathering patrol or normal patrol. Gathering patrol has a special server when patrolling the perspective planet the event is on. After a considerable amount of guardians have gathered for the event. A series of strong enemies and bosses will spawn and the team will have to travel the surface of the planet while defeating these bosses. The event is held by a new vendor in the tower plaza called "[i]Zèn[/i] bounty tracker of the nine" who spawns opposite where Lord Saladin spawns. Who gives the rank packages and sells stuff for marks, he will also give bountys for certain bosses and they will reward you with a weak gear package (290 stuff) and rep. Edit: changed bounty rewards to weak gear packages and rep. Guardians can now chose whenever to play the Gathering patrol or normal patrol. Bounty tracker spawns opposite where Saladin spawns

Bump. How about a week long battle against the different enemies we face. Rotate each month through Hive, the Fallen, Vex and Cabal. Set it in a rotation of Crucible maps. Minimum light level set at 280. Each event has side objectives/missions like "take and hold", "search and destroy" etc. Use real world battles as models for each month's event. Imagine being in a pitched battle against the Fallen at Twilight Gap. Or fighting hordes of the Hive at Widows Court. Alongside you were upwards of 20 to 30 other Guardians, all weapons free, as waves of enemies assaulted the battle line. Zavala calling out orders as Shaxx does in the Crucible, directing Guardians to "hold the line!" or "now grind them into the dust!" So basically our enemies launch a monthly offensive in a Crucible map. It doesn't have to be anything which will impact the state of the story. We'd see enemy troop types of every kind, while Guardians rotated through the battlefield. Bungie devs already have the maps to make this work, pile on a constant flow of spawning enemies. Matchmake squads of Guardians at 10 each time until a cap of 30 Guardians is reached for each battle. Battles could last for upto 30 minutes. All you need to ask yourself is; how do I feel about facing up to 3 spidertanks + Vandals, Captains & a -blam!- load of Dregs at Twilight Gap?

Bosses include Templar, Atheon, Ir Yut, Crota, War Priest, Golgorath, Sisters, Oryx, as well as any of the Y1 and Y2 PoE bosses. Completing that raid boss doesn't award you raid loot or use your checkpoint. Instead it has a low chance to drop a y2-3 exotic while using a strange coin (not raid specific exotics), a y2-3 class item (raid specific), and a reasonable amount of planet materials(10), motes(5),and coins(5). This drop would be farmable, but the difficulty associated with it, and the low drop rates, would prevent exploitation beyond what is already achievable via weekly strike/nightfall farming. Submitting the bounties grants the same faction/marks as iron banner bounties. Varyks and Petra sell 2 HoJ/QW weapons/armor per event.
