Is this normal

Guys I'm a 15 year old male that is a vegetarian (religion). Throughout my life I've been pretty skinny, not like anorexic looking but no one ever said "look at a that guy he's ripped." I have a question regarding muscle mass. I've always had an issue gaining muscle mass because I'm lean and skinny, while my older brother (21) was always bulky and muscular (he's also a vegetarian) same with my dad as well and my mom isn't far off .Before you guys say the following things I'm going to clear the two most common responses right here: 1. I know muscle mass is very genetic so don't lecture me on that 2. Don't tell me to leave my vegetarian diet 3. I workout every other day with push-ups and variations of chin ups like isometric and palms facing away and towards. 4. I get 2500 calories every day 5. My body dimensions: height: 5'7, weight: 117 pounds My question to you guys is, will I all of a sudden start to accumulate muscle mass when I hit a certain age, say 16 or 17? Or will I be like this forever?

Different people have different body types, which are generally hereditary, so you may find it hard to gain mass your whole life compared to other people. 1. You need protein. Doesn't matter if it's plant, dairy, or meat. To gain muscle you will need to eat a ratio roughly a little more than your body weight to grams daily. So if you weigh 117lbs, you'll need more than 117g of protein per day. You can get this from plant-based protein supplement drinks/powders in addition to what you eat. There are lots of resources online that will guide you on a vegetarian diet. 2. Protein needs to be the primary source of your calories. 2500 calories per day of mostly carbs isn't good, and most vegetables are primarily carbs. Mostly good carbs, but carbs nonetheless. Even if you're not trying to build muscle, eating lean sources of protein promotes a healthy body. 3. You need fatty acids to help support protein synthesis and a myriad of other things. Raw almonds and Omega-3 are two of the best sources of healthy fatty acids. For building muscle though, BCAA (branch chain amino acids) supplements will help more. 4. Heavy weights with fewer reps will help you build size and strength. Most importantly, work on compound movements that target a large primary muscle group with 1-2 secondary muscle groups (e.g. squats, clean and press, pull ups, etc.) before doing things that target smaller, weaker muscle groups (e.g. curls, calf raises, etc.). 5. Building muscle takes hard work. You may hit a point where it's easier to put on muscle, but your teen years are when exercise is most effective. If you're not noticing gains now, you need to either change your diet, change your workout, or both. But keep in mind they won't happen quickly and you may hit plateaus where it feels like you're not gaining anything. When you hit that point, you just need to change your routine. 6. Don't ignore muscle groups. If you want gains you'll need to do more than pushups and chinups every other day. You should be doing leg exercises, ab exercises, shoulder exercises, and arm exercises too. If you really want gains, you should be doing 2 opposing groups per day, 6 days a week. If you focus on just pushups, and chinups, you're going to develop imbalances in your muscle sizes, strength, and your posture. Not to mention if you only focus on your top, you're gonna look like a cartoon character with chicken legs.

    • Wait till you're 16 or 17, or just take some whey protein before and after a workout. Pushups and chin ups aren't gonna cut it. Learn how to deadlift and squat, and bench

    • I eat meat, I eat a lot, and I'm still skinny as hell at nearing 19 y/o. Some people just don't gain mass very easily.

no, without a change in your diet or excercise routine you will most likely stay that way for a long time

      • 1. REALLY not the place to ask about stuff like this. 2. Very hard to give advice based on this little information. 3. There is a massive chance your body will change once you reach a certain age, but no guarantee. 4. You will not get buff "overnight".
